Is He Able to Breed My DH just came in from the local grocery so angry and told me that a lady had approached him telling him how adorable Laddy was and asking if he was able to breed. DH informed him that no he had been fixed to which she replied....darn I would of loved to have had puppies from him and my little girl. DH then asked her what her little girl weighed and if she was a breed standard to better the breed little girl. Her response was "2.6" lbs. DH told her in no uncertain terms how he felt about her breeding this little girl and why. People make me so mad and so sad even thinking about breeding these little ones. |
Good for your husband for saying something! I don't understand how people can think it's acceptable to breed such a small being:confused: It's sad:( |
Well DH probably was a little more voiceful than even I would of been but maybe it will make her stop and think. He said he told her that even if Laddy had not been fixed he would never consider letting him breed a female that small and that she must not love her little girl much at all if she was even thinking about letting her have pups. Mind you Laddy is 4.8lbs which is almost twice her females size on top of that. |
Ugh, I hate getting asked that question. Way to go DH for speaking up  |
I understand where you are coming from. Many people have approached me about my Dallas (male, fixed & pound rescue 7.5 lbs, zero papers/pedigree) and have asked if he is a girl and if I ever have puppies, if I know of anyone who has puppies. The last person who did this has a scroungy yorkie mix and said she wanted him to have puppies because he is such a great dog. I was gobsmacked. I told her he was not even close to breeding quality, why not rescue a dog that needs a home? It was like talking to a wall. There is no way to fix stupid, and unfortunately these dogs pay the price. |

Most the time people just dont know, they just see a cute boy and a cute girl so put them together and make cute puppies lol. When I had two rabbits(a girl and boy)I kept them separated while waiting to get the boy nuetered and a friend thought I should breed them so they could have a cute lil bunny, but I said no because I knew nothing about breeding them, and that was when I didn't even know much about rabbits. But thats why before you do anything you should research it, because what you might think is right could be wrong, like this one time a friends kid was watching me clean out the rabbit cage and I caught her just in time when she was about to pick the rabbit up by the ears:eek: so I explained to never do that and the proper way to pick them up and she said but thats how mommy picks up my rabbit:( and I doubt she was doing it on purpous to hurt the rabbit, but that was "normal" for her. So just saying I think most the time people are not informed, and then there are the time when it's on purpose, lol |
Well your Yorkie is a doll baby. People see cute and think reproduce. All we can do is educate. The majority of people know very little about breeding dogs, Yorkies in general and have no idea the risks involved. |
Don't have a Yorkie yet. ..but have had the same thing happen with our border collie (who is fixed, though not broken;)) A man has stopped my husband several times, wishing our dog could breed with his. He has no idea, what he's doing, nothing about genetics, nothing about health issues with the breed, nothing about temperament. Nope 'they' look good. Sums up some of society today. Our boy wouldn't be ideal for several reason. Glad your hubby spoke up, mine just smiles and listens, it doesn't annoy him at all. :( |
I felt terrible one day...a lady came up to me and asked if I would consider breeding my little Bouncer...he was adorable and she was sure if she bred him to her 3# little girl, the babies would be fabulous! She caught me on a REALLY bad day, so, with furrowed brow and flashing eyes, and voice raised an octive higher and 80 decibels louder, I unleashed on her....I am amazed she stood there and took it all in, then she began to softly cry and apologized and told me she didnt know all that information, and that all she was trying to do was be friendly with another Yorkie owner and she thought I would take her inquiry in the spirit it was given, as a compliment to my little man.... That woman stood there softly crying, humiliated and embarrassed....and her gentle, kind, honest humble response to my crazy a$$ rant, put me in my rightful position....lower than whale krap!!! I started crying with her, and here we stood in the parking lot at Walmart, holding our little dogs, crying like a couple of 3 year old kids.... That woman has no idea that I am NOT the person she encountered that day....I had been thru a wringer at work, then I had some IDIOT, who reads YT frequently, and had bought a baby of mine, a gorgeous blue blooded baby with so many champions and grand champions behind it, that its pedigree looks like it was hemorrhaging red....and accuses me of selling him a Silky instead of a Yorkie, "according to his vet"......OMG!!!! I get enraged all over again!!!!....In any event, that idiot had shredded my very last nerve, and now this poor uninformed woman, unintentionally stepped right into the path of a rampaging bull! She had NO idea that I dont normally ever act like that, and she shamed me right proud and proper! From then on, I take deep cleansing breaths, I smile, and I intentionally lower my voice into almost a whisper, and calmly explane that "I appreciate the compliment about my baby, but......." . I do not EVER want ANYONE to be able to make me THAT ashamed of my behavior ever again! |
Just now getting a chance to reply. I read all your responses to DH and he said...no that after he told her that she should never breed her little female she said she had before. That is when he told her that she must not love her very much then. He was pretty upset when he came home which is not like him at all. He loves our furkids but usually thinks I go overboard with them lol now I can say the same about him :p |
Good for him! Derik would have said idot and just walked away. |
way to go to your husband! and that woman shouldn\'t be allowed to own a yorkie or any dog thinking like that! |
Whoah, breeding a dog that small is insane! Good on your husband for setting her straight. I never cease to be shocked at how clueless some people are. |
That chance meeting w/your husband probably saved that tiny girl\'s life! |
