So much for frontline... So I posted about 2 weeks ago saying my dog had fleas what do I do. You all said he was old enough at 13 weeks for flea meds so I called the vet and they confirmed. I bought frontline plus and the fleas were gone. It's been a week since I applied it and he's itching again and I think I found an egg on him. I haven't been able to find any fleas because he doesn't sit long enough and he has A LOT of hair. What else can I do to keep him from getting fleas?? |
Frontline and Revolution quit working for us a few years back. Our vet and many others think fleas have become immune. We have been using Comfortis and am pleased so far. |
Just bought Frontline today for my five month old. I wish I had read this before I applied it. I'll keep my fingers crossed and hope it works! |
Ive used frontline plus on my animals for 3 years now without any issues. I flea treat every 3 to 4 weeks depending on how bad the fleas are. Advantage products dont work at all for us, a week after applying it my animals end up with fleas. |
Flea Medication I use Advantage II It kills the fleas within 12 hours bedding and larvae, frontline I tried once did not work for me so i have been using Advantage for years. |
Since it stopped working can I apply another treatment or is it too soon? |
frontline plus doesnt repel them so they have to bite ur baby inorder to die. LuminoPets.com Home Page Michelle used this to fully get rid of them and I have ordered some because I am having the same issue and none of the topicals I'm using are working completely for whatever reason. good luck we all seem to be in this boat this year. |
I would check with the vet about applying another product so soon. We use frontline and it works for us. Perhaps the egg you found was just lingering from before and was still stuck in the fur??? Good luck. Tracey |

I would suggest getting some DE to get rid of them and then switching to a different topical to keep them away. Good luck... I know how much fleas suck :( |
I've used it for 12 years. Never had a flea or tick. |
Oh no! I know Jaxson will itch every once in a while but it's just an itch. I've used frontline since we got him (2 1/2 months) & we haven't had any issues with it. Could be your area & if that's the case you should try to find someone with pets around you & see what they use. Your vet should know the best information though so try & talk with him/her. Also I always research so see if you can research flea medicine that works best in the type of area your in. Good luck!! :) Also have you thought about a flea shampoo for pups? I have one for Jaxson that he gets once a month as well. :) |
Could it be allergies? I have been told that diet can make dogs itch as well as if they are allergic to the shampoo/conditioner being used.. Also the lady I bought Bailey from said to add fish oil to his food to help with itching. |
We have been using comfortis ever since we got Milo. I have not saw a live flea yet. I have saw a dead one on him once. |

I wouldn't be too worried if you have not actually seen a flea. Eggs are extremly hard to spot on the body. They are kind of like a translucent small grain of sand.. Get a flea comb and comb through him to see if you pick up fleas or flea poo (black grains of stuff on the body.) I used Frontline Plus on my cats last year when we were having a tick problem. The ticks loved the stuff but it did kill the fleas. I use Advantage II on Gracie and it works great. Usually if you are still finding fleas on your pet after using Frontline or Advantage it is because you have the critters laying eggs in your house and they are too much for the treatment to keep up with. Hopefully that is not your problem. You can also use the flea comb on your pet when you bring him in from outside to make sure you get anything that may have jumped on him when he was out there. Check his skin to make sure he is not having any type of skin issue. Sometimes certain foods can cause itching as well. |

Frontline is worthless in my area. My vet doesn't even sell it anymore or recommend it. I have had good luck with Advantix and Vectra. Since it is too early to reapply, I have heard washing them in Dawn will kill fleas. I don't think it would hurt to do it to be on the safe side. |
Frontline stopped working for us too. I give him his flea med in a pill and love the results. |
Isn't it interesting that Frontline seems to have stopped working in some areas? But still ok in others? Makes one go hmmmmmm.......:thinking: |
I've never heard of seeing flea eggs on a dog! Could it be tapeworm sections??? Since a dog can get infested w/it if it ingests a flea infected w/it. I find it strange that I'm reading that frontline doesn't work & that your vets are saying this too. Strange bc I get my frontline from my vet & they work fine for us (knock on wood!). I also have the big bottle style they used to have & it works even better I think. It says in the instruction to spray it all over the pet, but I just spray it along the the back of their necks...just so they don't eat/lick it or anything. |
ok, maybe I should ask this: For those who claim that frontline is not working, where are you getting it from? |

It's true that fleas can develop a tolerance to various types of chemicals that have been used over a period of time in a particular area. It could be that is what is happening to the fleas in areas where Frontline has been used for several years. They say these are prehistoric creatures that have adapted to all kinds of conditions for thousands of years. That is why Advantage came out with a new topical a couple of years ago called Advantage II although I think it is really III or IV. |
my westie had serious flea issues. i feeding him brewer yeast with garlic, no more fleas whatsoever after around 1 week and he rolls and rolls in grass everyday. |
I live in so fla so i know all about fleas and mosquitoes. All that stuff quit working down here because theyre immune to it now. Gigis on comfortis and it works great. I found that out after i bought a 6 month supply for $70.00. Awesome. lol |
I thought it was eggs because I didn't know what else it could be. But it seems to have gone away on its own. I have sprayed the house and vacuumed and washed everything to get rid of any fleas that might be lingering around. |
Using organic food grade diatinacious earth in uour yard and home to end the infestation is critical. |
