This just in, on the nightly news:

MARBLE FALLS, Texas -- A 27-year-old woman has been charged with cruelty to animals after neighbors witnessed her dragging her five-pound Yorkshire Terrier by its leash with her Ford Expedition.
“The way her pads were, they were completely gone like as if you or I had the skin on the bottom our feet completely worn down until the bottom of our muscle,” said Jacey Ferguson with Marble Falls Animal Control.
Mimi also lost a number of her toenails which were torn off during the ordeal.
“It doesn't make sense...no matter what, it doesn't make sense,” said Captain Glenn Hanson with the Marble Falls Police Department.
The incident happened around 8 p.m. Wednesday in a residential neighborhood in Marble Falls.
Witnesses told police that Maricela Sanchez was driving about 10 mph with the dog trying to keep up.
Captain Hanson said it is not illegal to walk a dog by holding onto its leash while driving a vehicle.
“I would not recommend a car or truck, I would recommend a bicycle because as fast as you can go on the bike, your dog can go that fast most of the time,” Ferguson said.
Mimi is now with a foster family and has to have all of her paws bathed in Epsom salts four times a day.
Hanson also said that Sanchez did not appear to be under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
“A certain issue with a language barrier of course couldn't get a whole lot more detail but she didn't, I don't think really saw that it was really any issue that she was dragging this dog behind the vehicle,” said Hanson.
“You wouldn't do this to your child, why would you do the same thing that requires the same amount of attention? They look at you like your child would,” Ferguson said.
Sanchez has a hearing next week where she’ll get a chance to convince a judge why she should be able to keep Mimi.
If convicted, Maricela Sanchez could receive up to two years in prison.

Can anyone explane to me what on God's green earth is happening to the "human" race?

They should drag Ms. Sanchez behind a vehicle until all her skin is gone on her feet and she loses toenails! She is not a human! That is a very sad story. :(

To me, abuse cases seem to be more frequent in the last 2 to 3 years. It's horrible how people can be so cruel to any dog/animal. :( I just don't understand it. They should never allow her to have ANY other animal, in my opinion :mad:

Oh my Lord. What idiots the human race are. Okay we road work our LARGE Breed dogs behind a van. But there are two people the driver and the dog with the "watcher" out back in the van. The beginning speed is like 2mph. For 10 minutes at a time. Good effing grief... a Yorkie behind an Explorer? To wear out all the pad skin and to break nails? God in all that is good, don't let me meet this woman.

At a show once in the States, I let Magic play with the kids in an asphalt parking lot. They were throwing a toy, and he was fetching it. I was appalled to see when we stopped and went into our room he had lifted the skin under one paw pad. It was about 40minutes of play, but it had been a warm day. I pulled him from the show. And cursed myself, and immediately did first aid on his paw, with epsom salt baths, and spray dis-infectant. Anyone ever tried to bandage a paw with vet wrap? Well I gave up and went to the store for some liquid bandaid. I nursed him that whole weekend angry so angry with myself for letting him get injured. I also visited the vet on site at the show to have his paw looked at.

I just don't get why anyone would try to road train a Yorkie with a blinking car. Maybe and only maybe a bicycle.

I think you are giving this dim witted cretin credit for more intelligence than she actually possesses. I do not think for one second that this was "road training"....I think this was some lazy useless piece of.....that decided it would be easier to walk the dog by letting it run behind the car, than for her to get her lazy butt out and play with that poor little soul, or walk it herself. This kind of thing REALLY makes me lose my religion....and let me re-read that one sentence.....there ACTUALLY is a question as to whether she should get this baby BACK??????????????? AND YOU KNOW WHAT IS SOOOOOOO SAD???? THAT POOR BABY WOULD LOVE AND LICK AND KISS ALL OVER HER BIG UGLY FACE!!!!

I just do not understand what is wrong with people!! Most of what I would like to type here would get me into alot of trouble,so I will just say that this ?person? should get back what they were doing to that poor baby,,,wonder if she can run at 50mph.

I say the same thing I say when I see stories like this on YT, There is a VERY special place ment for people like this and by what I have read it is REALLY hot for a VERY long time.

That poor dog. Also, that woman must have been awfully lazy to walk a dog that way! She's a c-word (As I said before, I only reserve this word for certain women, and she's one of them).

That is absolutely terrible! I hope the law slaps her with the highest punishment and I hope karma does too!

Ok now don't take this wrong...but wow...violence begets violence, drag a non-human like human behind a van...hmmmm somehow this whole statement seems really "off"...I know I should delete this and not post, but I just want to say that this mindset, IMHO is what perpetuates the abuse and murder of humans and animals alike.

Nothing personal, but dragging someone behind my car till they bled, lost toes, or died just was not my first thought. My first thought was this person has got to be sick in the head, hopefully shes prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law and never allowed to own another pet and hope to god she has no children....and, what can I do to help this poor pup?

I think stories like this touch civilized people to the core, and we strike out in raw anger and frustration.....frustration because we KNOW that Lady Justice has no place in her overbooked schedule to effectively deal with people that do things like this. I doubt very seriously there is anyone on here that would ACTUALLY snatch this *&%$#@ up and throw her behind a vehicle and dole out the same punishment she dealt that helpless pup, but I also can see where their anger and in MY case, yes, HATRED, boils up from....where is the justice for the animal?? Is this any LESS cruel than the person that haphazardly breeds pups willy-nilly, for a living? These misguided people are at least motivated by financial necessity.....what is the motivation that drives a person to drag a pup behind a moving vehicle??? DONT MISUNDERSTAND WHAT I AM SAYING, BUT JUST MEDITATE ON MY POINT FOR A MOMENT. I offer that the puppy miller, the "greeder", while their behavior is utterly unconscionable, they are at least motivated by a need for financial income. What motivates someone to just arbitrarily tie a pup to the bumper of a car and drag it around the neighborhood? While both of these types of individuals are despicable, I think society has more to FEAR from the behavior of the second individual. There is no greed, no financial gain to be had, no desire to watch puppies born....just a soul deep, unhendered, unremorseful, brutal, inhuman, sadistic need to torture the most defenseless, innocent, vulnerable souls in our midst. Studies have proven serial killers and pedophiles start out with a deviate, abusive or homicidal behavior towards helpless animals. I can understand where the fear and hatred for this person comes from, and I also, find this reprehensible behavior by THIS person, very frightening indeed. Couple that with the knowledge that the LAW WILL NOT BE UTILIZED HARSHLY ENOUGH TO DETERR SUCH BEHAVIOR FROM ANYONE ELSE....she will perhaps lose her dog...she will get another...she may pay a little fine, she may do a week or so in jail....no deterrant at all provided by Lady Justice. This realization of how little she will be held accountable for what she has done, motivates me to ......well, I wont go there.

These stories truly disgust me. That poor baby, thank goodness she is recieving proper care. Extra love for my little baby tonight- wish I could give cuddles and kisses to poor Mimi too.

There may be no law against the specific form of abuse but thankfully there are animal abuse laws.

IMHO it's unfortunate the law doesn't allow for the punishment to entirely and completely fit the crime.

I too hope this "person" doesn't or didn't have children.

Having said that maybe I'm off here but I treated an ingriwn toe nail with Epson salt once...for about 1.3 seconds....is this the correct treatment for the dog?

Its sick but with the way people treat other people these days Im not surprised what they will do to a pet it just seems to be a bad sign of the times

there should be a website and bulletin boards in all countie of each state with pictures of idiots, so people will know not to sell, or rehome or give dogs to them. I pray for speedy recovery for and justice for this little yorkie.

I have been teuly disturbed by the details of this oncident knowing the defense will most likely be she didnt realize thia was a bad qay to walk the dog or a claim of mental illness...baswd on reading follow through similar animal abuse legal cases.

There needs to be state by state legislation BANNING animal abusers from EvER owning a pet again.

Oh this breaks my heart i don't understand why they would even let her have a chance to plead her case she's blatantly not a good dog owner by far too lazy to walk her dog so drags it by a car if she does this what else could she do to poor Mimi? Truly horrible.....you know what is worse....This lady is probably not going to get what she deserves. Mimi is a 5 lb. Yorkie not a border collie!!!! I know you can go pretty fast on a bike. Those little legs could not keep up. I don't know what people are thinking. Maybe that is it. very sad...people are out of their minds! and the law allows them to get away with it in the end but someone who gets caught say smuggling drugs for instance well they go to jail for 50 years. i agree drag her behind her vehicle and see how she likes it. sick just makes my stomach turn.

i didnt mean it literally lynzy it was just an expression of my anger to how that poor baby doll was treated. in reality sometimes people do not ever understand how horrible an act they committed until they are stuck in those shoes. i guess a better way to state it but it just breaks my heart and makes me really upset.
