New member & first time yorkie owner! I just got a little yorkie-my first. She is very tiny & has several probs. I was told she is a blue skin, 5 months old, 2-lbs, has coccidiosis-she also has a eye infection & looks like she has or may have had mange. She has rough little spots on her ears (like bites-no sign of fleas) & lots of hair missing, especially on her rear area & ears. I just got her & she going to the vet first thing tomorrow. The lady I got her from is suppose to be a rescuer, if you ask me...all the dogs she has needs rescued from her. Anyways I am from ohio & am happy to be part of the group. I havent named her because she looks so bad, I want to wait til she gets healthy & we see her personality so we get a fitting name.I hope I get good news tomorrow. I have already order a few outfits from Rena & cant wait to get them. She is so tiny...I want to let her sleep with me but I have other dogs so I cant til she gets a clean bill of health. I dont want everyone else to get sick (the dogs)If you have any info about blue skin yorkies or other wise that might help get & keep this girl happy & healthy let me know. :aimeeyork -Rachel |
Welcome Rachel, welcome and good luck tomorrow- |

Welcome to YorkieTalk. :wavey: |
Hi & welcome! hope all goes well tomorrow at the Vets.......shes lucky to have you! :D keep us updated.....post some pics of her in her new clothes!! |
Wow, I think you're right about the rescue. A real rescue would have fixed that dog up more than that before finding her a new home. Obviously that rescue lady wanted all of the profit and none of the vet bill. I hope she didn't overcharge you because all of those medical problems are going to really add up. Did she even take her to the vet or is it from her own diagnosis? Did she say anything about that dog's backround? Is she a mill puppy or abused? Obviously she was neglected of medical care. Any communicable diseases etc? I am glad the little dog found her way into your arms. I know you are going to take better care of her than that lady. There are alot of "rescues" that end up being scams nowadays. I really hope this wasn't one of them. Take care and please let us know how it all went and if she'll be okay. |
Welcome! That a very kind heart you have to provide a home for a baby with this many needs. Thanks for joining. |
Welcome to yt. I will be saying a prayer for you and your new baby. Let us know. |
Welcome to YT. I sure hope the vet has some good news for you today. As far as I know, only 1 person on here has had a "blue born" Yorkie or atleast is familiar with one. Everything I have read online about them lead to serious health problems. The loss of hair may not be due to neglect, though other things are. I have read that they are usually in a lot of pain. If you go to google and type in "blue born Yorkie" you will find info that may help you with some issues this poor little puppy may/does have. I don't want to list them, it is something you will want to read for yourself. Please post after you get back from the vet.....hopefully there is a little miracle in store for both of you. By the way, did the "rescue" person explain ANYTHING to you about the health issues of a blue born? I pray the little girl will be able to lead a healthy happy life with you :) |
2 Attachment(s) BLESS HER HEART !! She sure needs you and many of the things you described are totally treatable - it sure sounds like that breeder needs to get OUT of that business or treat the rescues she takes in ....poor little girl - she must be miserable and to have coccidia at that age to me is kind of scary....You SHOULD be watching for signs of your other pets getting it...She could have ear mites too ? Here is an adult Blue Born - This is Julian.... sent to me by Whispersmom who can tell you much more than I can - I know their hair just kind of breaks off when trying to grow but Rini can tell you WAY More about them & I'll make sure she sees your post. I know she wouldn't mind me posting this - in case you want to see an adult Blue Yorkie...first shot is showing the hair - then a small face shot - LOOKS All yorkie to me ! GOOD LUCK with your new baby - it sounds like she's in a far better place with you than she was at her other 'home' |
Welcome to you and your baby. You are doing the right thing baby is going to the vet first thing. Most of the time rescue will tell you all that is wrong medically with a dog and what treatment the animal has been given. Standard policy is also to alter- may not have due to your babies size. I have known resuce to alter the little ones anyway. They use very good vets. Please let us know what your vet says. |
Rachel, welcome to YT. As for your Blue born..I am not an expert but I probably know more about them than most other people. I took a little female from a breeder a few years ago and made it my aim to learn as much as possible about the syndrome, or whatever. Please e-mail me at my Whispersmom2003@Yahoo.com and we can chat about the concerns, treatment and more. Your baby probably will have a lot of problems associated with a compromised immune system which sounds like what you are describing in your post. PLEASE get in touch with me so we can work together to give this baby some quality life while she is with you. Many vets have no idea about these little babies and sometimes, they cannot be treated with the same meds, etc of normal Yorkies... Do not let the baby sleep with you and your other dogs til the mange is diagnosed and treated or ruled out. I suspect it is NOT mange but you just never know. Let us know what the vet said and how things are going with her--------and you.. |
And, Villette, you know you can post any of the pics I have sent to you. The biggest reason I have some of the pics from other people's pups is to use as teaching tools. So, thank you for posting her pic. BTW, her name is Jillian... |
Welcome to YT!!!! Hope things go well for your new baby tomorrow. Please keep us posted!!!! We would love to see pictures! Again, WELCOME!!!! :D :D :D |
couldnt find my post-lol Well she does have coccidia, conjuctivitis & he said his guess would be she probably had mange. Although he didnt know anything about blue skins. I dont think she is a blue. She weighed 1.9 lbs he confirmed she is 4-5 months old. Got her meds. We go back in 7-10 days to see if the coccidia is gone. I know i cant let her sleep w/us-incase it is mange. He didnt do a scrape, just said revolution would take care of any mites. She eats really good. I keep her seperate from my other pets. I cant wait til shes better so she can sleep w/ us. I think she would get better faster. She loves to be held-all the time & wants to meet her brother. I have a 2 yr old neutered pom. He loves the clothes Rena makes for him. She is shipping this little girls out friday-cant wait. She needs the extra warmth. She is going to be a itty bitty. I understand if the dog was a rescue & had probs-she's better off in a home, more attention, care , love-she'll heal faster- but this place was unsanitary. She is definately hoarding these dogs. I gave $450 for her in this shape-she wouldnt take any less. I am suppose to get her spayed in 60 days so she will send her aka papers. She said I dont get them if not, even if the vet says no. shes only 1.9 & not skinny, so in 60 days she may be, what...2.5 hopefully, that is scary. I dont want anything to happen to her :( . So if I cant find a confident vet w/ experience w/spaying this small she can keep the papers. I would like to spay her when she is healthy & at a good weight. Thanks for your prayers & welcomes. :aimeeyork -Rachel |

I really hope you're able to get those papers so you can do some research on her background and how she ended up into this lady's hands. Since you know nothing of this dog's background she could have been abused or from a puppymill. I really hope that you are able to help her along, she might end up with many long term problems since her background is unknown from genetic defects to potty training issues from being crated. I would also recommend calling all of the vets and find a vet more experienced with blue skins. You are the real rescue and hero here! You rescued this dog from the rescuer. I hope you call animal control on this woman, she is doing nothing for these animals but making them sicker by diseases and prolonging medical care she knows that they need. To deny medical care IS animal abuse! Does the dog even have all of her shots? You are the one doing all of the rescuing, she was probably given that dog for free by an owner who surrendered her due to the costly vet bills because she's unhealthy. Sorry for the rant everyone, I just wonder how long this dog had to suffer before Rachel opened her arms to her! |
Sooo many Big .. Hearts Here on YT.. I am glad to see that you are another one to add to this wonderful Community .. Its Sad that a the puppy needs so much help But when theres people like you in the world it make These Special little dogs life worth while. I am sending prayers You & Your New babies way :) Shame on the rescue that even let this baby go with out being healthy :thumbdown  this baby really needs you I am glad that you are there for her :aimeeyork !! :thumbdown I am sorry but i would report this women ! :thumbdown |
This does not sound like a LEGITIMATE RESCUE!!! That person must be reported to local authorities and stopped from fraudulently representing herself as a rescuer..This dog was sold and not rescued..Getting the papers is the least of your worries concerning this dog and I am glad that you have already made the decision that they are not a matter of real importance.. The health of the dog is the biggest issue. I know about the blue borns and although I am not an expert, you can PM me if you think I can be of any help to you. BTW, how many breeds did you see when you went to select and buy your baby? The condition of this puppy sounds as if she might have been a mill puppy originally... These are just my opinions.. |
:angel2dl: you are truly an angel :angel2dl: i wish you the BEST of luck with your new baby. im so sorry that she is having to go through all this, but it seems like she is GREAT hands- you are such a great person for taking such good care of her. i dont know anything really about any of the conditions she has, so i cant give any advice, but i hope everything goes well! You must be a wreck worrying about her- but dont worry, you will find a great, experienced vet in your area and things will get better! i feel bad for the other dogs that that "rescuer/re-seller" has- am i mistaken or can all the other dogs she has get the same conditions that this little one has? if so, [and even if not actually]you should def report her- those other dogs maybe be suffering. she doesnt seem to have the best interest of this dog at heart. but you do, and in the end that is really all that matters. you are so wonderful for loving this puppy and taking her into your home. best of luck with her and keep us updated on how shes doing<33 |
I wish you luck with your little girl. It sounds like she is finally in wonderful hands and will have a very happy life now. Welcome to YT. I would contact the authorities on the "Rescue" woman. |
Good luck with your new little girl , Hope she will soon be on the road to recovery. |
Poor little baby! Thank goodness for people like you. I don't know if this will help with the mange problem, but there is an older gentleman at my job who was given a yorkie puppy that had mange and the ownder did not want him. He told me he and his wife used to rub sulfur on the dogs coat to clear him up. I'll definitely give him a call tomorrow to ask and make sure. Good luck. |
Welcome to Yorkie Talk. Your fur baby is in need of some much love and health care now and she is so lucky to have you to give that to her. You are a very special person with a huge heart. :aimeeyork |
My Yorkie She is doing great. Eating alot, drinking, playing-so sweet. In the hour & a half I was at this ladies house 2 or 3 others came to look & were undecided so she brought out yorkies, jack russle, snauzer, poodle, chihuahua, maltese, bishon, pekinese, s**tzu.....there were 2 great danes, she mentioned having mastiffs available. She told the people to tell her what they wanted & she'd bring it out-crazy, huh? The diseases are definately contagious to other animals. coccidiosis can be deadly in small dogs & pups-they get dehydrated. She actually didnt have any worms, except for the coccidia/parasite. And she doesnt seem thin/under weight. I don't think she is a blue skin, I think the lady was just making a excuse for the manginess. I believe she gave her a shot, but she marked a record as her having a shot at 6 & 8 weeks then another on 11/15. She said she had her for a month , so she wouldnt have had her at 6 & 8 wks. I will be calling to see if there is a more knowledgable vet. I know there is one in chillicothe that works with petlands dogs-which sells yorkies, so maybe he will know-but I'll call around, I need to confirm whether she is blue skin or not forsure. I play & hold her alot. And when she is over the coccidia (and the mange) she will be sleeping with us. I have bought her cute tiny toys her size & some large ones that she likes to beat up on. Pink beds, carriers, clothes & hair bows-she will be spoiled so bad. I will get picks up soon. Hugs to all my new friends. Your support is important & you've been very helpful. |
Good for you...glad to hear she is going to be well taken care of..... |

Anna Belle I decided to name her anna belle. She still has the coccidiosis, which is upsetting cause I cant have her around my other dogs or let her sleep with us with that going on. Hopefully it will be gone this week, vet visit 3 in 3 weeks. She will get on us and sleep, but doesnt seem to be bonding with us well, she is more interested in the dogs-but they arent likeing her right now, she is hyper. Her hair is growing longer. She eats royal canin. Questions: any ideas for bonding, getting her to pay attention & getting her body & hair less dry. is royal canin one of the best foods for her.... I feel she will pay more attention, when we have bonded-but I'm not sure what I can do to get her to trust me. I know patience, time & understanding. :animal36 Any suggestions on this, the food or the dry hair/skin. :aimeeyork Rachel |
Update on Anna Belle She is up to 2.9 in the about 7wks I've had her. Her hair is growing in & I think we finally got rid of the parasites, so she has the run of the house, but hope it gets warmer soon we need more potty breaks but its to stinkin cold. It breaks my heart to think what this little thing has been thru in her short life, probably laying in a cage trying to live & sometimes wishing she could just die. Its horrible to think about. I'm pretty sure she did come from a amish puppymill, but was bought by this so called rescuer & even though I did not know what I was getting into I am glad I decided to make the long trip & save this little girl from all this, cause she is on cloud nine with her new family. Thanks for everything. |
