Mokey My Yorkey is 17 years and how to you handle watching him slowly going away. I do anything but i can't do enough. When do you do what I know i have to do? |
When the quality of life is bad, you need to make a decision. Are you keeping your furbaby here for your own reasons? 17 years is a lot of years. Is life fun for him anymore? Sometimes, we need to put our own selfish reasons aside and do what is best for our best friend. Your furbaby has lived a good, long life. He's been loyal to you, kept you company, been your best friend. Don't let him down when he needs you the most. |
Oh, I'm so sorry. Fortunately, my Yorkie is only a baby. BUT, I have a 13 year old schnauzer who has arthritis very bad in his back legs. It is affecting his nerves and he has very little muscle in his back haunches. I talked to the vet just last month about how do you know when the time is up. My vet said to look at the quality of HIS life - not what I want - but what his life quality is like. Can he rest, can he eat, can he go outside, does he seem to enjoy the family - my vet said to ask these questions and that I will know in my heart when the time is up. He gave me new medicine which I can give for a month and then have to stop for awhile. Today I was late giving it to him and he could hardly walk after a few hours and he was whimpering when he walked. After just an hour or so when I gave him the medicine, he was so much better. But tomorrow is the last pill I have and I just know by the next day, he is going to be hurting. I will be calling the vet to see if I can get some more medicine and if so, when I can give it to him and for how long. If I can't, ........ :( It is so hard, but try to think about the quality of your baby's life - when the quality is poor, then it may be time........... |
Mokey Thank you for caring. I know but don't want to let go. Selfesh is a Large word and HE never was. Just me. Take care of yours and know they see inside, Mokey knows before I do. |
17 years wow! That is a long fullfilled life. You have been blessed having him so long. If he is in pain and suffering in any way I feel he deserves an easier way to go. I know this is a very difficult topic and very hard on you. But I feel we always owe our fur babies what is best for them. They give us so much in life, and I just feel we owe them the same. |
God bless you...it sounds like you know the time is near...stay strong and remember to do what is best for your little one. I had to put down our Dalmation last year...she was the best dog I had ever owned, but she was in pain and I did not want that for her....take comfort in your memories....good luck |
Mokey Thanks for being there. I am a old man with a pardner that got old before i wished he would. Thanks. |
It is so hard - I know you wish he could live on and on. It's especially hard when we are older because often our pets are such a huge part of our lives. My mom who is 85 pretty much (on a day to day basis) only has her little dog. I know if he goes before she does, it will be so hard on her. These things are never easy, no matter the age. Please know that you can come here to talk anytime - someone is always here and everyone is so nice and caring on this board :) |

Your little one gave you 17 years of his life . If he is sick maybe the better thing to do is to let him go . Maļa was 18 years old when she died then later it was the time for my little Zsa Zsa ( 14 years old ) to go too . They will always be in my heart as my guardian angels . I truly know that it isn't easy to let them go but why make them suffer . Before mine died , I told them that it was ok to leave and told them that I really appreciated the time they were with me . |
Oh, I am so very sorry. Its never easy to let go of anything/anyone you love, we never fully let go. Enjoy your time and your memories now, it sounds like you know what you will have to do soon. Angie |
Mokey Mokey passed at 9:15 this morning. Thanks for the help, Calvin. |

I am so sorry for your loss . You will be in my thoughts and prayers because I know it is very tough to loose a dear old friends . |
In Loving Memory of Mokey... Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge. When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable. All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind. They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster. You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart. Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together.... |
I am so sorry to hear of Mokey\'s passing. No matter how long we have them it is never enough time! Take care. |

Mokey is at peace now - I know you are not - but Mokey is running and playing with all the other pets who have crossed over. He is not hurting or feeling badly, he is free of worldly constraints - keep that thought close to your heart. And keep all the good thoughts of Mokey close to your heart and mind - your memories will help you deal with these difficult times. God Bless both of you. Take care and let us know how you are doing. |
calvin, I am so sorry for your loss. I know you are hurting. My best friends dog, an Akita named Boo, also crossed the Rainbow Bridge today and she couldn\'t even discuss it. he was about twenty years old. I know how special these babies are to us all and again, I am so sorry for your loss. |
