I believe my 2 year old yorkie, Roxie, may be Houdini reincarnated. The first few times that she picked her way out of her metal crate, I really thought that maybe I had just been in a hurry and not closed it properly. Now, it has happened so often that I even double check to make sure the latch (which you have to pick up and slide) is securely fastened. Last night, she went to bed easily, we told her goodnight and went upstairs to get ready for bed. I had just laid down when I heard her whining outside our bedroom door....! Is anyone else's yorkie a master escape artist?

That's so funny. I would love to see a video of this! You should set one up. Easily done with computers!

Yes, set your phone or computer or cam up in front of that crate and let us watch that! I love to watch them get out of their crates and into cabinets and things! It is so darn cute! Yesterday, I was watching "Bad Dog!" on TV and one of the dogs could defeat a childproof cabinet lock. He'd open it just far enough to get one paw inside and bump the trip lever and open the door came. Some dogs are so clever that way. And so determined!

Welcome to the club. Brandi is a little Houdini too. She was actually paying attention to how I placed her in the crate and learn how to unlatched the crate anytime she wanted too. Eventually she ended having run of the house after she was potty pad trained.

The yorkie we had when I was younger used to climb our cyclone fence. We couldn't figure out how he was getting out until our neighbor took a picture of him in action. He was one crazy little yorkie. We used to have to hop in the car and drive around the neighborhood to find him.

Oh my goodness, that's why Harry's called Harry!!!! Nothing to do with when he met Sally....

He did the same thing (many times), he learnt how to slide the catches, kind of with his tongue and nose....it was very clever!

What was even more amazingly clever, was WHEN HE LEARNED HOW TO OPEN THE KITCHEN DOOR!!!!! He's a big boy, and can jump quite high.....I think his paw caught a lucky one on the handle, and he too met me at the front door

I've given in to his every whim now - he has free roam of the house now Just waiting for him to learn how to unlock the front door.... Sally + Mr. Houdini x

Hehehehe...I know the feeling. Not with the Yorkies so much...yet, although they are very clever just not Houdini-fied...but with other cats and dogs. I had Honey (Houdini), a med-sized Shep/Lab who could get out of any collar or harness (which she took off the first night and was returned to the pet store) EXCEPT for a spiked choker collar. All my current cats and last dog, a 120+ lb Shep/Lab mix, learned...and taught each other to open the bi-fold door installed to keep them off the white living room carpet...from BOTH sides.... They also all know/knew how to open the bathroom pocket door...no privacy there!

We had a med-sized Rott(en)/Pit mix who opened 6' glass sliders by standing up on the door and leaning to the side, thereby moving the glass door, too. One of the smallest mixes, a rescue who nearly died, taught two of my other Shep/Lab mixes how to jump fences...she herself did it by jumping to top bar of the 4' chain link, perching there on all 4 feet momentarily, then leaping off.

It gets real interesting living with a "Houdini' dog (or cat)...I do hope you are able to get video!!!

Ginny Joy is an escape artist too. We have to put a lock on her crate. She had no problem climbing the x-pen and baby gates.
