First actual hair cut? Hello ladies! So, when did your babies get their first actual hair cut? Bentley is a little over 4 months, I made an appointment for tomorrow for a first actual cut, do you think it's too early? I want to ask the groomer to trim around his ears, since I'm too paranoid to do it, and to give him a shorter cut since the weather has been hitting 100's here lately. Am I crazy? Or is his age okay to get a cut? Thanks! :animal-pa |

Last time my Fiance took Bentley to the Groomers, the young girl told him she recommends he just gets a trim because he's still too little. IMO I just think she didn't want to spend more time giving him a cut. I'm going there again, I made an appointment tomorrow. I already told myself if someone tells me something similar I'm just going to go to another groomer. Last time I payed for a bath and trim when I can do that myself....... Thank you! I really like it too! Plus the weather here has been getting icky and hot. |
Zachary was 5 months when he got his first hair cut. He mats really easy so his hair is pretty short. I have read that most people keep their Biewers in a puppy cut which I plan to do. Louise |
My groomer told me that it's better to take them in when they're young so that they get used to it. Yoshi had his first haircut at 5 months. I actually spoke to a few different groomers before I decided on THE ONE. I had Yoshi scheduled as the first one in, so that he could be the first one out. I also asked them to call me as soon as he was finished so that I could come pick him up right away. I didn't want him stuck in an unfamiliar crate too long. I brought his favorite ducky blanket, a chew toy & a soft toy. It's a good thing I brought a blanket, because the place I brought him to didn't have any padding on their wire crates. They must have thought I was NUTS! But I was sooo nervous. They ended up doing a great job, Yoshi was a good little boy & now I have a great relationship with our groomer :) Just be sure to tell them EXACTLY how you want his hair cut (in a respectful way, of course). I've read some horror stories about grooming gone bad on this site. Good luck :) |

He old enough! That cut is a great cut for an active Yorkie. It may not look exactly like the photo thou because it looks like the pup in the photo is a cotton coat and it looks like your little one has a more traditional Yorkie coat which is much thinner than a cotton coated Yorkie. It wont be as full on the legs and face. That is something to keep in mind when having him groomed for the first time. If it isn't what you expected you may end up disappointed. |

One thing with Toki's first cut that they did that I didn't know to specify was that they trimmed the hair around her eyes. I wanted to grow out the hairs out long enough to just comb her face hair down on either side of her muzzle or pull up into her top knot. So I was pretty annoyed with myself for not specifying that since we had to deal with the short stabby eye hairs and are still trying to grow them out. They also will probably tip the ears since it's commonly done with yorkies. I like how Toki looks with her ears untipped though so I'm always sure to specify that as well. Please post pictures after the groomers and show us your baby! |

Will do! I just got home from work, Making myself a fast breakfast, brushing Bentley and off to the groomers we go! Wish us luck! |
eeeeeeek. Wish us luck! We are headed out the door! |
2 Attachment(s) Good luck! Bentley will be just fine! We just got back from the groomer's this morning! She just needed a good bath, nails cut, and paws and sanitary area trimmed...I'm trying to grow her hair out. Toki loves going because I always buy her some kind of new treats whenever we go and everyone there loves on her so much! Bentley is going to be so soft and clean when you get him back! Hopefully it will be a very positive experience that he enjoys! I have a before and after picture of Toki (IDK why she looks like such a thug in the before picture *sigh*)! |
I just did my grand daughter's Yorkie. His name is Brix and he is 14 weeks old. He looks adorable. I will try to put a pic from my phone (never did that before LOL) |
I love Toki's haircut! What a little doll!! Louise |

Good luck!! I cant wait to see pictures. I always cut my 4 down in the summer it's just too hot for them. I leave the face a little longer but the body is short. |
The haircut you are thinking of doing is exactly how I have Sophie cut. She has the cotteny coat so it is the best for her. I think they look adorable no matter what we do () to them!! |

She's adorable!!!! I'm waiting patiently for him to finish;/ I hope he's okay! Makes me so sad to give him away, he didn't look so happy. I spoiled Bentley today too, I always do whenever I'm out shopping either way :P I got him two new shirts and a treat ;D I'll post the shirts and Bentley when I get home. |

That is so true! ^. I'm sure he'll turn out great. The lady recommended not to do it THAT short because he doesn't have his colors in yet, so I just went with what she recommended. He's going to get his cut, ears shaved, nails clipped and oatmeal shampoo/conditioner. AHHHHHHHHHHHHH STRESSED MAMA <- :( |

But once you get her to sit in it and lay down, she falls right asleep! I do wish I had gotten the large one although she can sit and lay down fine in the medium one (she's pretty long and weighs 9.6 pounds). |
Majax, you must tell me how it went. My little Jackie is 4 months too and I've been thinking a lot about going to the groomer. Her hair is quite long and if it's hot outside i don't even want to take her on the walk. You must post pictures. :D I must see Bentley with the new haircut! :) |
