Yorkie or Silky? 4 Attachment(s) I went with Bentley for a walk last night, and bumped into my neighbor. We talked for a little bit and she told me that Bentley doesn't look like a Yorkie, that once he gets older he'll turn out to be a Silky. I honestly don't care, either way I love him to death, but I wanted to see what you ladies think. He is 4 months old, and he's already 4lbs. Here are some pictures of my handsome <3 Attachment 372600 Attachment 372601 Attachment 372602 Attachment 372603 :animal-pa Thanks again ;) |
i have to say he looks like a yorkie to me. i dont know why someone would he is too big. 4 pounds @ 4 months old is tiny. my oscar was 4 pounds at 12 weeks and now at almost 1 year old he is only 7 1/2 pounds and he looks so tiny to me. |
He looks yorkie to me. People often think if its not tiny it can't be a yorkie and that is very much not true there are many many bigger yorkies. Yorkies were originally bigger then they are now. Mine is 16 pounds and I love it. Also please be careful walking him if he doesn't have all of his shots. |

WELL SAID TAYLOR  |
Omgosh Bentley is soooooo cute!!! I love his little face:D He looks like a Yorkie to me. |
:thumbup:Looks Yorkie to me! Looks just like Oliver and he's all yorkie! |
People can be so ignorant. Our Ginger is almost 11 lbs. We had a neighbor that insisted she was a Silky because of her size. She said Ginger is too big to be a yorkie and that she is instead a silky. We ignored her. Yorkies can be as large as 25 lbs or so. In fact they used to be larger but through selective breeding they have become smaller. Don't let these morons get under your skin. Your baby looks like a yorkie to me. |
Everyone's an expert these days! Geez! I don't know what compels people to say things like that...what difference would it make either way and what do they hope to accomplish by being kind of rude like that? They should have just told you how precious Bentley was and kept it moving *sigh* Your Bentley sure looks like a charmer though! What a cutie! |
silkys and yorkies as babies are almost identical, only experience eyes can detect the differences. here's a link to my site explaining a bit about the yorkie, silky differences. Compare the silky to.... - Home of the Gorgeous Silky Terrier!! your baby is adorable, and silky or yorkie I know you will love him a lot.:D hugs, |

Bentley is up to date on all his shots. Trust me I wouldn't be walking him around if he wasn't. When I got him I was scared to take him outside, but our vet said as long as he is out where no other dogs walk ( Our back yard ) than he is okay. |
Thanks ladies! Either way I don't care. She just said that out of the blue, like it would hurt me or something? Ugh, I told her straight up that I wouldn't care if he was a Yorkie or Silky or both. I love him just as much :) |

He really does look like your Oliver! I just looked at your album! So cute! |
You will find that there are many people her with larger Yorkies. I think I read some where that it is difficult to tell the difference when they are puppies. You cannot tell the difference simply by the size since some people are breeding some very large Yorkies. It could be they have some Silky blood in them but no one could determine that just buy looking at a puppy. |

Either way I think he's handsomeeee. :P |
Alot of yorkies that are larger or going to be larger are called silkies by someone even mine so dont give it another thought |

Too hard to tell at that age. I think Jackson is a Silky and so does a few Silky breeders who I've talked to. However, it's not impossible that he's just a badly-bred Yorkie, and in fact is probably more likely considering they are a lot more common. Size isn't the only factor though. I've seen some very small Silky's and very large Yorkies. I think Jackson is very Silky in his eyes, his ears, his muzzle, his body length, etc. Which is stuff you will be able to see more as he gets older. He's ADORABLE! |
He looks 100% yorkie to me. There were 4 puppies in the litter my little piccolo came from....three of them are 5 lbs. at 9 mos., and one is 9 1/2 lbs.! I know they are all 100% yorkie, because I own the parents. Some people like to be contrary no matter what the subject...your neighbor is obviously not an authority. lol |

He looks like a yorkie, but like you said, titles don't matter. If they're the love of your life, that's all that matters. |
To me with the huge amounts of Yorkies now, there are so many that are said to be purebred that all look so different, I can never tell. He doesn't look exactly like the majority of Yorkie puppies I have seen when I used to visit a lot of breeders but he does look like many I've seen so I just can't tell. He sure is a darling little boy! I'll bet you are awfully proud and happy with that little charmer. Such a face! He made me smile. |
Maybe that person had a Silky before and was just comparing them. They do resemble each other at a young age, but I think he looks like a Yorkie to me. |
Charlie gets called a silky all the time and when I say he is a Yorkie people tell me he is too big to be one (like I would lie....). He is 12lbs, and thin for his height/ length. |
OMG...I've had people ask me what kind of dog Brody is and when I tell them he's a Yorkie, they have suddenly become 'experts' on my dog and said that no, he is a Silky. I have gently corrected them, saying well, yes, there is a breed of dog called a Silky and they look much like a Yorkie, but THIS "silky coated" dog is a Yorkshire Terrier breed, or Yorkie...not a Silky Terrier breed of dog. So far, I have gotten my point across easily enough with all who've corrected me, but, really, it is them whose ignorance is showing...oops!:p:D It's funny that Mia is silky coated, too, but she's 'golden' in color and when I tell them she's a Yorkie...she's just not able to make the blue color anymore...they accept it without question. Really odd, now that I'm thinking about it... Your baby is a darling...I wouldn't worry about the unknowing...lol |
LOL, well sadly it seems that every yorkie that is above 6 pounds is a silky.. I met a lady at the pet store while I was shopping yesterday with my Cotton Coat yorkie Prada that told me that my SILKY girl was adorable..I gently told her that she was a OFF standard YORKIE, and she proceded to try to lecture me about how much bigger silkies are than TEA CUP yorkies..LOL I laugh and told her that I know I am a silky show breeder and I know the differences of both breeds and walk away..LOL hubby thought it was hilarius..LOL |
