What's better? I've been thinking a lot about what would be better To rescue a yorkie or purchase a puppy? I'd like some input on what you think is better I've been getting frustrated because a lot of rescues wont let some one with kids have a yorkie I don't want to rescue a 3lb puppy / dog because I know better but the second I mention the word kids they tell me no or that they don't recommend a yorkie for my house hold. My kids are not "monsters" I have taught them to respect animals and NONE of my kids ever threw or even carried my JoJo he was a standard size so in no way would I want one smaller for that reason. I guess I'm just anxious because of all that happened with my JoJo I miss him so much :( Well I'm looking forward to the pros and cons thanks :animal-pa |
Well, I don't know if I'm the exception, but I adopted a darling 13 week old puppy from a shelter in May. The breeder had surrendered the pups to the shelter due to overwhelming life events (unfortunately, the death of her husband). I have a 10 year old son, and the breeder had no objections, particularly after she met him. So, perhaps the right shelter would adopt one out to you? I'm sorry about Jo-Jo and wish you the best of luck! You will find the one meant for you. |
I think adopting is great and I am all for it but one thing that needs to be kept in mine is some shelter dogs can have problems that might require you to hire a trainer to help with or some might have some health issues. Shelters are very full of unwanted dogs and I personally think I will go with a rescue the next dog I get. My mom rescued a yorkie and he had some problems that we have worked on and he is just the best most loving little guy and he has such a personality. Rescues seem to have such a loyalty and love towards the people who rescue them like they are showing how thankful they are. My first dog/best friend when I was around 8 until 15 was a lab mix and she was rescued from people who kept her chained to a tree all the time and never gave her water or food. She was hyper at first but then mellowed out some and would follow me every where and was the just an amazing dog. |
Tell them you dont have kids :) but cross your fingers when you tell them...and the lie doesnt count :) Good Luck! pity all the nice kids get overlooked and tarnished with the same brush as the bad kids! Have it out with the shelter and ask them to come to your home before they judge your family!!!!! |
I almost got a rehomed yorkie before we got Abby, but after thinking about it I knew the dog - already nervous because of 5 kids in the house (she traveled the baseboards) might be better off in a quieter house, I have 3 young adult children that come and go and two other dogs. I saw quite a few puppies before I choose Abby- her personality was so calm and laidback even among her 4 siblings. Adopt, rehome or new pup I would keep looking until you find the right one. |

I would never lie about not having any kids. It wouldn't be fair to the dog I want to go to the shelters and look but I'm afraid.that if we do find a puppy there or dog that it won't be good with my kids I've been thinking that maybe if we got a puppy it would be better since I can train it .... I don't know .... :confused: |
Their's a dog or puppy out there that will fit your family. Just keep looking I'm sure you will find the right one. Most of the time the dog will pick you. Hoping for the best to you in your search. Have a good Day.:animal-pa Anne/Luci:p |
I think it just depends on what you really want. I am looking for specific things in my next dog, so I'll most likely go with a breeder. But if that perfect dog were to ever come up in rescue, I wouldn't turn it down either. However, I have issues with rescues too because of my age (21) and still living at home. Eh, it sucks, that they have no clue that Jackson is probably the most well taken care of and loved dog on the planet, not to mentioned trained and well behaved, etc. So yeah most likely will be going with a breeder. |
I think some of you are spending way to much time with your puppies/dogs you need to lighten up and recognise something said in jest! I really worry about some of you posters! |
