Confessions of an Addict July 16: Dear Diary, I will not buy any more dog stuff. I will not buy any more dog stuff. I tell myself this almost every single time I have to go to Petsmart for dog food. "I'm just going to go in, get a bag of food and leave. Nothing else and I'm not going to look around the store again." Truth be known, I deliberately buy the 4lb bag just so I get to go more often. I go in and head straight for the back of the store where the food is kept. If they'd keep it in the front of the store, I might be able to maintain some semblance of self control. But no. "They" conspire against me intentionally so that I'm the one who appears to have a problem. Issy is learning to walk on a leash. This is something that's going to take quite a bit of time to master. I'd better make at least one lap around the store just to give her a chance at some practice. Now walking Issy is more like "dragging" Issy. She's still a baby and I believe, slightly autistic. No matter how much I work with her, she'll plant her feet and stop. Good thing the floor is slippery! We'd better make 2 laps. I always end my training sessions on a positive note. I get a brilliant idea. I'll go buy some treats and coax her around the store that way. It's not working. Hmm... maybe it's the leash I'm using? Flexi retractable leashes might not be her thing. I'd better try a more traditional leash. And harness. Oh gosh! Yes! That's it. It's the HARNESS I'm using! I'll bet those thin little nylon straps are cutting in. (I'm going to leave out the part where I just ordered 2 buddy belts from Maximo. Doesn't matter. Issy needs a soft harness right now. So I'd better get one. Actually 2. These are a lot nicer than the nylon ones. Gabby sure could use one. Well, that's definitely not working. I can't for the life of myself think of what could possibly be causing so much resistance here. I just asking her to walk on a leash. HA! I think she's cold. Yes! Yes! That's it! She's not used to the air conditioning being quite so high and it just rained. I'd better slip a sweater over her. Or a dress. There's 5 to choose from. Well I can't get her a new dress without getting Gabby a new dress. That just wouldn't be fair. I'd better get a bottle of pet perfume. I don't want to put these new dresses on smelly dogs. Hmm... come to think of it, I need some toothpaste. Issy has stinky breath. I wonder if it's because I'm feeding her out of plastic bowls? I've heard those can harbor bacteria. I'd better pick up some ceramic bowls while I'm here. I think her hair is in her eyes. That's why she's not walking. She can't see! I should get her a clip to pull it out of the way. How cute! There's these little plastic baby clips with rhinestones on them! Yes! Yes! They'll definitely work! I'd better get 2 packs. These tend to fall out and get lost. I know, my dear diary. I know. I get to the checkout. "What do you mean $156.12? I only came in here for dog food!" You might call it a problem. I call it retail therapy. (I wonder what's for sale on YT?) |
OMG! Sorry, but I am ROTFLMBO! This is the exact reason I order dog food online. Then it gets delivered right to my front door! I would spend more in gas going to buy it (and stuff) lol, than I spend on shipping! Also, I can then choose to buy what they need from our wonderful group of YT Vendors, instead of impulse buying at those stores! But I do love reading your posts! PS: Next time buy some socks so she doesn't pick up any germs! |
Oh boy I know exactly how you feel hon! I've had Jaxson for over a month & every time I go into a store I look at puppy/dog stuff for an hour. :/ My husband will tell me "Jax is set babe, he doesn't need anything else!" I usually end up buying something little for Jaxson but I need to get some self control when it comes to stuff for him. :) Good Luck! |
So funny. I call it my yorkie habit! That is why I started selling ..so I could earn money to support my habit |
Man. Don't ask me for self control. I think it's obvious I don't have any. I'm not even going to get into the toys and beds we have in the house. Now I'm thinking I need car seats and some shopping cart thingy so they can hang out in the baby section of the cart. |
I gave up trying not to buy Joel stuff, lol even stores like wal-mart I HAVE to go to the pet section. Jeez even food and water dishes, he only needs two, hehe |

I count myself lucky if I leave a dog show having spent under $200:D Last wkend was $250. I needed a new crate, and then of course another show collar, and then there was a new bowl I saw and liked, a refill on the big conditioning spray I like. Then we were introduced to a new style crate; we discussed it; luckily they didn't have it in the big size we needed, so that is going on my wish list for later. Did I tell you I have 6 crates that have been "outgrown" at home; hubby wants to sell a few. Of course that won't happen, just like the extra portable generator, still hasn't been sold...... Happy shopping:) |
yeah, good luck with that. Lol ! |
You are cracking me up, I am the same way and I really need to cut back but dang I do love buying stuff for my furkids..I did buy myself a stainless steel cookware set. LOL DH said I can't believe you bought them instead of clothes for Miss Priss. He can be such a turd. LOL |
I know its crazy, right? I have two yorkies and they are spoiled. From playpens, clothes, treats food , and clothes, I can't help myself. I just placed an order for a stroller for them! My hubby is gonna think I'm crazy! And yes I am, crazy over my furbabys! |
How funny. We were shopping Sunday at a local store that had "Huge Sales". So Natalie went to try on a bunch of clothes. Where did I head? Yep, right to their pet supplies. I came so close to buying a dog couch. But then I realized, all our couches are Bailey's! |
LOL!! This is soooo me. |
OMG, I love your "Dear Diary" entry, you should post one every day! I am really, really bad when going into a pet store of any kind. My dogs have over a 100 toys of every kind. Cant go into a pet store without buying a toy too, what kind of doggy mom would I be if I didnt buy them one. Last year, I bagged up some of their toys and put them away. I will probably give them back in a few months and that way they will think they got them new again. I should donate some to the local dog shelters. |
It is comforting to know I am not alone :). I am that way with Ross. I come up with every excuse I can to get in there. My best is that it is a good place to get dress shirts for hubby. 2 minutes at the shirts then straight back to baby stuff to look at blankies and then gee, look, the dog stuff is right across the isle! Might as well take a look! My big downfall is Ebay and Etsy. I no longer allow hubby in the laundry room so he can't see the extent of my insanity. My only excuse is that now I have two to dress. I have a friend coming to stay with us soon and I am pondering tucking some up in my sewing stuff so she doesn't see how bad I am. I wonder if the three long ribbons full of snap in bows could be viewed as a wall decoration? Yeah, that is it! And after all, I only buy what they need. Like the new Snoozer 3 in 1 car seat. I have to keep the baby safe right? And um, we don't want mouth stains so in the long run that new Zero Water system will be less than buying the purified at the store. And I am being considerate of hubby so he doesn't have to haul the bottles home. Tap for hubby and I but the dogs NEED the purified water! |
This is so me!!! Fiance wont let me get a stroller, I may have to tell him I won it in a lottery! Have two car seats, looking for another. Someone stop me please!!! lol!! |
