need help breeding my yorkie can any one tell me why my 3 year old yorkie doesnt let my boyfriends 2yr old yorkie mate? shes been in heat sence june 25..i waited 10 days then 14 and she doesnt let him near her she hasnt flaged or anything and im scared her breading cycle is over..im thinking about artificial insemination AI..isthatrecomended? help:confused: |
Maybe its for the best they haven't mated. Are both yorkies excellent examples of the breed? Have they both been health tested? Are they and there lines free of LP? Are they AKC registered? Do you have the money to take care of any emergency's like a c-section? Are you prepared for the possibility that your dog could die? Is your dog between 5 and 7 pounds? Do you have the money to take care of the puppies properly and keep them until 12 weeks? Are you prepared to not make your money back when selling them? |
:) hi taylor thank u for repling actually im not looking to sell my puppies thats not the reason why im breeding them..thankfully im good economically for any emergencys and yes i would be able to take care of the puppies once theyre born..however i dont know why my yorkie is not letting my boyfriends yorkie mate? do you think i waited too long to breed her? im really scared of her dyeing but hopefully that wont happen i taje her to the vet on a constant basis therefore they bith have good health my yorkie is 3.5 lbs and the male weights 4.5 pounds what do u think is happening? |
She is just too small. Should be a minimum of 5 lbs. |
Please do not breed her that small she has an even higher risk of dying. There are special test though that need to be done before breeding its not just a regular health check up. Your going to keep all the pups? |
Are you familiar with at least 12 generation pedigree behind both dogs? Do you know what you are looking at when you look at the dogs and the lines they represent? Are you familiar with the do's and dont's of AI, especially where the AKC is concerned? Do you have AT LEAST $3000.00-$5000.00 to cover emergencies...an emergency c-section, medical care for the babies, etc? I actually read on this forum today about a woman that had a 7 week old puppy that was having bloody diarrhea, and she did not realize the danger she was looking at....nor did she have the ablity to get to a vet....and she became indignant and incensed that everyone on here was so understandibly concerned about that puppy's survival....do YOU realize and appreciate a life or death situation when you are living it, and do you have a car or some way to get the help you need, 24/7? Are you familiar with vaccination protocols? Do you have buyers for your babies? Unless you have the strips yourself, your vet can have your female tested to see if she is still in heat, and in the proper part of her cycle, for a fee of course. When all these obsticles have been met and surmounted, sometimes they just do not like each other! If she doesnt like him, she wont let him near her.....same for him about her! |
taylor thank you so much for your advice i did not know she had to be 5 pounds |

yorkie mom yes i have all her histiry recirds and baby is registered :) however i dont know about my bf yorkie i would need to talk to him about it..as fir the AI the vet tild me she needs a screening and a check up before proceeding i think im not going to breed her i love her too much to risk me loosing her..thank you for your advice i was a little clueless about weight size and thought she could be bread with proper careing and not have a problem |
dblane ofcouse im not trying to kill my dog otherwise i wouldnt have took the decision of breeding her after so long..the thing is we moved and my yirkie is very lonely my bf dog is not with us often infact hes far and when he leaves my dogg stays sad i didnt want that to happen thsts why i wanted to breed her n not sell the puppies..and yes im glad im able to work earn enough to support my dogg otherwise itll be irrespinsible for me to have such a dog with such highneeds..anyway after talking to couple of people im not breeding my dogg ill probably buy her another yorkie to keep her company |
Yes and thank you fir warning me aswell this realy helped me |
At that weight you should get your baby fixed. It won't help with her being lonely but an accidental breeding could kill her. You could always take the money you have saved for the ai and get her a friend. :) |

If you breed a dog under 5 pounds I seriously question weather you are actually trying to do harm. If you're so financially fine you can afford to alter both Yorkies and go to a responsible reputable experienced breeder. Sorry yo be brtuatally harshly honest but when you say probably and not wow now I know better it leaves the door open to doing harm to your dog. Spaying is a must even breeders spay their females as cancer rates are drastically increased. Take her to tje vet now have rhem swab her vag and read tje report at three years unspayed she may already be develooing cancer. It sounds alarmist but honestly it is drastic. |
