Concretegurl im glad im not like the others and actually value advice and my babys life..sorry to hear that persons irresponsibility hurt her dog at some point..i wont risk it and if i thought about it wasnt for the wrong reasons..i wasnt aware of such risk but now i am and thanks to that my next step is to find a goid legit breeder to buy my baby a friend as ive mention befire thanks for stoping by and ur concern

Thank You & You are Very welcome. Do you have a good vet ? Well let me say that if the vet you are using did not warn you against breeding her then I would find another vet ASAP. Before spaying her you need to ask for preanaesthetic blood work & if the blood work looks good then she should be fine. My Jasmine is 3.4 lbs & she did fine with her spay. Make sure NOT to take her to a shelter for a discount spay as to keep their cost down they often do not use the best anaesthesia, you want a vet that will use the best anaesthesia there is for her.

I would get a check up and then pre surgery blood work before a spay and that will take a lot of the risk out of it. It's a lot lower of a risk then her getting pregnant and something happening to her.

Perfect lili I was thinking exactly the same thing i winder why my vet didnt tell me about this maybe she though both doggs were almost the same size and wouldnt matter much i simply dont knowbut i wont take risk regardless..and as for fixing my baby wow anestecia sounds dangerous do u think its safe sence shes really small? would that afect her?

Well , she weighs 1 oz more then my Jasmine & actually when Jasmine was spayed she was 8 mo & almost 3 lbs & she did fine. As long as she checks out fine & blood work is good she should do well. My Jasmine was supposed to be over 5 lbs as her parents were both over 5 lbs but I guess we forgot to tell her, lol. She's tiny but a wildfire at almost 3 yrs old.

Vets are like any ither professionals...lawyers doctors plumber electricians...some are worth their degree some aren't worth the paper its printed on.

I cannit express enough how important a small dog specialty vet is when you have a yorkie...or mini schnauzer...

Be leary of the lepto vacine
Alwaus a harness for a leash on walks
NEVER breed a genetically ill or inder 5 pound dog...please read some of the spay threads on here

I'm opinated so I'll add any vet who says its okay to breed a dog unhealth tested or under 5the pounds is the same quality a professional as the octomons feetility specualist...

Any operation can have complications, but spaying is done a lot, and with appropriate testing before hand should be really safe. Talk to your vet about it. I've never had a dog that small, but from the posts I've read on here it sounds like she's big enough. Just make sure and get all the pre op testing done.

Spaying is usually considered a healthier option than not spaying, among other things it reduces the chances of certain types of cancer, the longer you wait the less it reduces them. I plan to get Yumi spayed after her 1st heat to give her growth plates a chance to close, and get her retained baby teeth removed at the same time. Just google the benefits of spaying I think it's worth the small chance of complications.

I've read some really neat ideas for dealing with post op care on here if you search or post a thread specifically on spaying and post op care I bet you'll get lost of neat ideas to help. The 2 that come to mind are preemie onesies and baby belly bands. I've also seen a lot of people talk about kisse collars that one of the members here sells. they're look kind of like the plastic cones they use to keep them from chewing their stichs, but they look a whole lot more comfortable.

I was so scared to have my 3 lb. Jilly spayed and waited until she was 6 1/2 before I could brin myself to have it done. She had the pre-op bloodwork, the vet used a recognized protocol I'd heard of(I didn't have Internet back then) and she had the surgery. As they had a vet tech through the night, she stayed with the vet that night and I called - shall we say - more than once through the night to talk with the girl. When I picked her up the next day, she was still groggy & slept a lot that night but by the next day, she seemed to almost be herself. Of course I was giving her her pain medication as directed because torso surgery hurts and that Rx was keeping her a bit on the sleepy side but helping keep her comfortable(another big concern). But within 4 days, she was seemingly back to her old self and better protected against developing mammarian and uterine cancer, which was a bigger fear than letting her have the surgery.
