| Male Yorkie & pee pads If a male Yorkie is trained on pee pads, what happens when they start lifting their leg? My Shih Tzu is outside trained, he was nutered at a young age, then about 2-3 years later he started lifting his leg. So if they go on pee pads only is this a problem you may later encounter? |

| My Mavrick is 6 months old. He sqauts AND lifts his leg to pee outside, but only squats to pee on the pad (and sometimes the floor) while in the house. |

| Tucker will left his leg in the middle of the peepee pad. I think he thinks he's peeing on something!

| My Maltese, Biscuit lifts his leg and often times misses and gets half the pee on the floor. It's a real pain in the neck but living in the Chicago suburbs where it's COLD and SNOWY I still appreciate the fact that I don't have to take him outside to do his business. I use the washable 'Pish Pads' that come in different size rolls and I have cut the pads to be double the size of a regular pee pad and this gives my babies a bigger 'target'! But as I mentioned, my male will sometimes still get some pee on the floor. |

| Inside the house, Miko usually squats to pee on his pee pads...Every once in awhile, he'll lift his leg to pee on the pad, but he usually still hits the pad. Outside, he usually lifts his leg. |

| My little Butch who is 5 months old just started lifting his leg while on the pee pad... he seems to be aiming for the xpen side but still just gets the pee pad.... My Rocky was trained to be inside a crate (kind of like the one in your picture but has a plastic tray in the bottom (24 inches by 36 inches)... he would sleep in the front and pee in the back... I had a vinyl tablecloth turned vinyl side in over the crate so when he started lifting his leg it would hit the vinyl (which I could wipe off)... instead of it hitting the wall.... My oldest yorkie Mickey who will be 6 years old in February will squat on the pee pad when he is in the house .... but he is neutered... my other males aren't. I guess if you have the males neutered early enough they may not lift their leg as much... but all dogs are different.... GOOD LUCK!!!

| You could try putting something in the middle of pad for them to lift their legs on... A sort of target for them to aim at. I would think a plastic soda bottle or milk jug would work well (might want to put some sand or gravel or something inside to weigh it down a bit). I've seen mini fire hydrants at our pet store... I think it's supposed to be a treat jar, but that would work too. I would be just like outside!! |

| Zeus uses the pads and he lifts his leg. Most of the time he keeps is all on the pad, but on rare occasions, he gets a little on the floor.

| Thanks to every one. He is 6 weeks old in the picture. I pick him up tomorrow and I am soooo exicited. I went shopping again today. My Shih Tzu has to inspect every thing I buy for him. He is still curious about the crate. Keeps sniffing it. Guess he is wondering what supose to be in it. Plan on getting him nutured when he is old enough. Still have not decided on a name. Any suggestions? |
