12 week old humping?
 

ok bruno actually started at 10nhalf weeks ..he just turned 12 weeks and at night he is humping blankets, toys anything really...is this normal? do i discourage this?

Well some say that getting the neutered will fix that and I guess it may for some but I can tell you that it didnt for Charlie. now Charlie does not do this all the time and actually he only does it to 2 people my mom and my husbands brother LOL (not sure why) but I have been told to tell him firmly NO! when he is trying to do it. It has not fixed the problem he still tries but it makes him stop if he is told firmly enough.

Yoshi, my Peke was neutered at 5 months and will still do that occasionally. Telling him no doesn't help either. I just keep saying no in a firm voice and he will stop for a nano second and then back at it again..He does this with my daughters Peke and with Miss Priss sometimes.

Going through this ourselves right now with our 12 week old male yorkie Jaxson. Good luck & I myself will be checking back here for advice if any on this matter. :)

If he does it all the time, well, I would casually distract him.

My little guy does the same thing. I have a 6 and 3 year old, and they just laugh and say look Toby is dancing again. I am not ready to have the talk with them yet, so to them dancing it is. I hope it resolves itself after he gets neutered. I feel sorry for his stuffed animals. lol

My little guy would do this from when I got him (5 months) until I neutered him. I wouldn't worry too much... The snip should end this behavior :)

It's normal. Dogs do this as a sign of dominance, especially at that age.

Can someone tell me if we have our male neutered will he stop lifting his leg. He is 7 months.

Plus were worried about his little sister so one has to be fixed.

Once he was no longer scared of the kids if one was laying down he'd hump them...behaviirist said he was trying to estabalish dominance by sneak attack establishing himself in pack order.

He went through a weird phase of humping my bathrobe when it was in the bathroom laundry pile.

He still tries to hump Princess' head from time to time.

I do not allow my males to hump people, or other dogs. Yes it is a natural instinct but, I don't allow them to chew the sofa or chase the bike rider either. Sorry my house my rules. Both males and females (even spayed/ neutered dogs) may hump to display that they are the top dog. That is why we don't allow it. We are a multi dog family, and the people are the PLPs (Provider, Leader, and Protector). My Young male knows humping the other dogs is a NO NO, so he takes a stuffed sock monkey into his crate and humps it. We ignore that, after all we taught him his crate belongs to him,and is his private safe place. (we feed, and give kong treats in crates)

Soonet the better will discourage territorial marking...boys lift their legs girls squat.

My four yr old has humped since he was a pup. He is neutered... He isnt
Allowed to hump people or the other furkids. But he has his "baby"....

A trainer told me one time that it is a sign of dominance. My daughter`s dog used to do it when he was younger. He stopped.

My 12 week old Yorkie is doing the same thing!!!

Bentley was neutered at around 6 months. He began humping only in the morning when he first wakes up in bed. I tell him no humpies and pick him up to make him stop. He is now 6 years old and still occasionally does it in the morning and I just do like I have said. He has never tried to do that with people, toys or whatever.

It just seems odd for a puppy to hump!!

Anyway, did you struggle with potty training? I'm having a very difficult time with that. Did you use pads?

OMG! I have to tell this story. A few months ago, Tyson (5 y/o, never a humper, neutered) walked out the back door to potty. As soon as he stepped out the door, he lifted his nose to sniff. I don't know what he was smelling, but he started "air humping" like he had no control over his body. He turned around to look at me...and had this terrified look on his face:eek::eek::eek:

Bless his heart, he just couldn't help it!!! LOL

Sasha was humping Max before her surgery...he is neutered she was not at that time...he just looked at her like she was crazy

Back when lol, I had puppy girls they were not spayed, would hump the older girl, their bed, toys lol, tiny little girls humpy so cute and funny, I never knew females did this. They did it mostly when they got excited, were wild and crazy from wild playing, it stopped when they were close to one year old, my last two girls were spayed close to 6 months old, they never humped. My adopted boy was neutered I believe his medical record showed at 14 months old, I have him 16 months he will be 4 y/o in a few days, he has never humped. I believe as puppies it's a natural thing to do, also could be a sign of dominance, keep correcting him when he behaves that way. Good luck

When they are young this is pretty much what I've always been told. My pup started pretty much doing it at ten weeks too.

My Toby still does it even after the neutering . Only to blankets though. Every time I try to put a blanket over me he tries. I just hold his butt firmly down so he can't move it and tell him no! Sometimes he stops and sometimes I pick him up and lecture him all the way down the stairs and he forgets about his love affair and life goes on.

I never yell or scold. I'm into positive reinforcement but was told this is the one time I should if I didn't want him doing it. I don't find it cute especially with my Granddaughter. I let Buster who was four months at the time have the toy he usually humps and yelled NO once. He's never done it again and neither have I for anything. I think he knew I meant it.:animal-pa

I'm just lucky toby is aspiring to be to be a pickpocket instead of a porn star. He's gotten a lot better about the humping. It's rare anymore

My house is now the humping house I think. My 9 year old neutered male Yorkie (I have had him 6 months) has never humped anything in front of me before. I don't think he humped things, but I can't be sure. My 4 year old neutered male English Setter has never humped anything (had him over 3 years).

We bring home 2 puppies, a boy and a girl. Teek (Yorkie) decides to play with them and then starts humping the puppies. Gatlin (English Setter) then tries to hump Teek while he is humping a puppy. I get Teek to stop humping the puppy and rescue the puppy (he does this to both the girl and boy puppy) and then Gatlin about knocks Teek over with trying to get to his private parts and gets Teek going all over again. Do I get onto the English Setter or the Yorkie harder? Equally? I keep removing the puppies from the situation (they are 14 weeks old).

To have dogs that have never humped anything and now they don't stop once they get started. I usually end up putting the bigger dog in the other room and removing the puppies from the situation. The Yorkie does not listen as well as I would like because I have not had him very long and at his age he seems fairly set in his ways on some things. Then again, the humping thing seems pretty new. Apparently it is how Teek thinks you play with puppies. The puppies will occasionally do this to each other but I don't worry as much about them and just try to distract them.

I want Teek to play with the puppies, with less humping involved.

Any advice?

Gotta admit, this thread was good for a laugh today! Bella has one toy that she has that special relationship with. Frankly I think it is hilarious but mommy gets mortified at the spectacle. She was spayed when she underwent surgery, so we will see if it continues or not.

I agree that you shouldn't allow pups to hump people, but humping a toy is normal and even good for them. One of our better breeders wrote that this encourages the testicles to drop and that's always a good thing.

Epoc, to answer your question, around 7-8 months seems to be average, the testicles have to both drop and it's good if the vet can pull the remaining baby teeth when they are under anesthesia, so vets usually check out these two areas before the decide to do the surgery. They need enough adult teeth to have come in.

With Ditto it's the last thing we do every night before we turn over and go to sleep..:)
