I can't believe some owners!!! So I take Juicy to the dog park her in Vegas and there is this one guy I met weeks ago who introduces himself to me by telling me that my dog was bred for rats...and it pretty much a rat. Then he proceeds to tell me that his dog thinks my dog is a rat and is going to attack her. And as sure as he utters those horrible words out of his mouth...his dog goes after Juicy...so I pick her up. I'm mortified by his lack of human skills. His dog starts jumping damn near in my arms trying to get Juicy...so I tell hi...get your dog. He tells me...dogs will be dogs and not all dogs will get along. What a complete jerk...I'm pissed. So He grabs his dog and goes away...so I thought. I put Juicy down and she's runing around playing with other dogs....and it happens....out of nowhere...his down pounces on top of Juicy with his teeth around her neck. Without a thought...my mother instinct kicks in...I grab his dog by the collar to pull him back and I'm screaming "get your bleeping dog away from my dog...he's biting her neck" this jerk is jut standing there looking at me all calm. He calmly picks up his dog and says..."come on sweetie...lets go home". Like I was wrong for getting pissed and protecting my baby. That park was so quiet you could hear a pin drop after my outburst, lol...but after he left a few people came and told me his dog has aggression issues with smaller dogs....and he has had a run in with other smaller dogs in the past but yet he continues to bring his dog to the dog park and brings him the small dog side. Some people should not be dog owners. Am I wrong to feel this way?:confused: |
If his dog has problems with small dogs, why would he bring it on the small dog side?! What the heck... I don't understand some people. |
OMG NO you are not wrong the guys is an a__ and allowing his dog to be a bad child. if he knew this then he should work to correct it or stay away from small dogs. so glad juicy is ok and you were alert and paying attention. sorry you had to deal with that SOB. seems like he was trying to push ur buttons. |
You are definitely not wrong to feel this way. Does this dog park have rules that can be enforced? You should try to find someone to help rid the park of this guy. My sister moved to Vegas almost 3 years ago and came back exactly a year ago on Sunday. Her and her husband could not deal with some of the people out there and their complete lack of social skills. And well obviously other reasons to why they came back as well but that was one major thing they did notice out there. Both my brother-in-law and sister are very friendly and socialable people but they came across so many just cold and standoffish people. I wonder if this guy was one of them haha |
I'd be handing him a bill for the vet... some people don't 'get it' till they get hit in the pocket.... |

He was and is an idiot. If he doesn't have a small dog, can you not ban together with other folks at the dog park, and strongly tell him to get his dog over to the large dog park? I am so happy your dog was okay. |
Some men have this macho thing about their dog being the toughest like it reflects on how tough they are. Neanderthal ! |
omg.. that had to be scary! I wonder if you can call animal control (or what ever it is call out there).. there has to be some rules of big dogs that are aggressive to small dogs in a dog park. Also, I would carry mace or something like that .. you could spray the aggressive dog if he attackes your little one again. I am really sorry you have to deal with such an a&& h*** |
thanks everyone for your support and suggestions. I'm am a very social person and can get along with anyone...but this guys just seems like he singled me out. First of all...why did he feel the need to talk down about my dog...then make it seem like it was ok that his dog acted up. His dog was a medium sized dog. I felt like maybe this wasn't the place for me if this is the way everyone was gonna act...but then everyone else was so nice and once he left...Juicy had a ball playing with the other dogs. She would chase them...then they would chase her. After he left...I felt she was safe. I will find out about the rules and how to get them enforced. |
You did the right thing. I probably wouldn't have been as nice to just grab the dog's collar.... It's unfortunate but I think that there is a certain attitude about smaller dogs generally. It is true that the Yorkshire Terrier was bred to deal with rats in factories back in the 19th century. It's what also makes our pups so feisty and fierce. It's a shame you had such a bad experience. Hopefully it won't happen again. Best wishes, Tracey |
you weren't wrong at all!! That guy was a jacka$$!!! Hopefully you can get together and ban this guy or something. Glad your baby is ok |
You're not in the wrong at all, this owner sounds like a complete tool. If he lived here (UK), his dog would be put down...unforntunately he wouldn't ;) |
/\ And obviously his dog being put down wouldn't be nice at all, even more upsetting that it's not the dogs fault, it's the daft owner. Some people are weird, granted, I can live with that, but cruel people can do one. |
I am so sorry this happened. I'm glad Juicy is Ok. All I can say is there is no way in heck I would take my dog back to the dog park. I don't like dog parks at all for reasons such as this. I'm just glad I have a big back yard for mine to run in. |
