Oh my goodness what a scare:( I am so thankful your husband was home and that you were aware that Zachary was under there. We don't have recliners and my DH would love to have one. I refuse to have one in the house, because I know the men in my house...they would never think to look. How sad for the poor widower and his baby:( That is the most heartbreaking story I have ever heard. |
Oh how scary. I am glad Zachary is alright. God was with him. I have not allowed recliners in my house since my baby almost got caught under one when she was crawling. My husband was in the recliner. I was in the kitchen just to come in and see my baby half way under the recliner and my husband about to grab the handle to close it. I yelled for him to stop and ran and grabbed my baby girl before the recliner closed. I vowed that day to never have a recliner again, and I have not had one since. Now that the kids are older I contemplated on getting another one, but after hearing this and having Toby, I think i will pass. |
I have a fainting couch. Its smaller than a loveseat,it only has one armrest, all 5 little ones can sit on the couch with me and I can get on and off of it much easier than a recliner. Maybe this would be an alternative. |

Going to the thrift store today to look for a stool of some kind to elevate my feet. Louise |
so thankful everything is ok and thanks you for the warning never thought of this and we have a recliner. i would die if that ever happened feel so bad for that older gentlemen hopefully he forgave himself at somepoint. what a sad story. but thankfully louise yours had a happy ending. so glad!! |
I walk on a treadmill while Bella lays beside it. I want to use the incline, but I have the same fear as most do with the recliners. Bella has laid close enough with incline that her little back is just under the edge of it. I'm thinking that putting her ex-pen around the highest point of the incline would be a safe way of using it. So for those that do use treadmills watch you puppies when using the incline. |
We got rid of our reclinner awhile back for this reason. We have a lot of cats who used to hide under the relinner and we almost had the same problem you did. We have noting that the cats or dogs can get under and stuck and they too don't have collars on unless they are going out. Thank God the dog was okay. |
I had a treadmill for several years and my poodle would go and watch me walk. He was either tethered so that he couldnt reach the treadmill or was on the other side of a baby gate. I will be putting a treadmill in the house again, soon. Mina will not be in the room unless she is in a crate. |
That is so scary:eek: Thank goodness your baby is okay, omg!!! We also have a recliner and are very very careful about putting the footrest down. Neither of mine will really even go near it anyway, it makes a bit of noise when putting the footrest up and down, and besides, Luna is always on whoever is in the chair (it's HER chair!) and Izzy likes her little bed by the sliders. I do look and make sure that I can see both of them when I'm getting up, just in case. My chair has fabric that prevents anything but maybe a mouse from getting underneath where the mechanics are, but I worry about mooshing someone with the footrest itself. Amazing the things we have to be very vigilant about when owning small dogs. |
Wow. That is scary. Glad he is okay. |
I would caution people with rocking chairs also. I know I rocked on our poms tail once thank goodness she was ok but if she had put her head there instead I cannot imagine. |
Thanks for telling your story. You probably saved someone from much grief. I'm so glad your pup was not hurt! |
What a scary experience! I'm so glad you were able to get him out... |
Oh I am so happy all is well. I know you are still shaking. Maybe we can think up a way to that you can keep him from going under there. Maybe the scare will keep him away because that chair is important to your comfort. I will be thinking of solutions and will let you know if I think of anything. |
