What do you guys think? 2 Attachment(s) My husband and I were out and about this weekend and decided to go to Petland and look for our daughter a hamster she wanted. I was carrying Toby and one of the workers comes up and says he is a silky terrier right. I of course said no. She asked what kind is he, and I said he is a Yorkshire terrier. She then proceeded to look at the window where they had two yorkies and glanced back at Toby and didn't believe me he was a yorkie because he looked different then their yorkies. Their yorkies were as big a Toby but younger and they were Jet black with very dark tan almost brown markings and their hair was almost curly looking. I assured her he was a yorkie and kept walking. My question is do any of you think he looks like a silky? Have I been wrong this whole time? Here are a few recent pictures of Toby. |

For 1.. Toby is handsome so who cares what they think!! for # 2 .. why would you respect the opinion of a store that sells puppy mill dogs:eek: for # 3.. he looks like a yorkie to me.. the coats change when they reach adulthood. They were compairing Toby to a puppy I am thinking. |
I would not take her opinion very seriously petland's puppies are from puppy mills so they are not the best quality. Also please please do not buy anything from petland because no matter what you buy there the money goes to keep puppy mills and petland in business. |
Yorkie. BTW: Yorkies hair isn't supposed to be curly. Who knows what's in a puppy mill pup. Your baby is precious. Love his ears!!! Tracey |
He sure looks like a yorkie! Cute |
Definitely a yorkie and a really cute one too. |
OOPS I do not want to do that Quote:

Thank you everyone Thank you everyone for the nice comments. I think Toby is cute too but then again I am a bit biased. I told my husband if I wasnt such a nice person I would have said no he is a yorkie, but he does not come from a puppy mill that could be why he looks different. I just could not bring myself to say that for fear of sounding rude. I have always been like that. I know what I would like to say, but I just can not bring myself to say it. |
he is cute and he looks all yorkie to me |
toby is cute as a button and looks all yorkie to me... |
As stated above I am quite sure this PetLand employee knows nothing about what a Yorkie puppy should look like. Who knows what those puppies they had were really? Puppy mills are less than honest about the puppies they breed. Your little guy is very cute and the employee was very stupid. She just happened to open her mouth and reveal her lack of knowledge of dogs and also her lack of social skills. |
Your little on'es a cutey no matter what he is.I actually think Brandi is a silkie because she has a rectangular body and a long snout. I believe yorkies have more of a square body and a short snout. This was what I read in determining in rather it is a yorkie or silky. I don't know Brandi's background as she was a rescue. It really doesn't matter to me what she is. I love the little furball and wouldn't give her up for anything. |
Toby looks Yorkie to me. Young pups still have a dark puppy coat. In the past 40+ years, I have had people say that can't be a Yorkie because, any of the following: It has short hair, big ears, is too big, is too small, has long legs, the legs are short, and honestly even this comment; "I didn't know they came in boys, I thought they were all girls !" Need I say more ? |

Look at that cute YORKIE. Love those ears. They look like my Kayla's ears. He's a sweetie. |
Lovely little yorkie! I agree, she probably didn't have much knowledge or experience, and their yorkies probably weren't bred with as much care and respect for the betterment of the breed. Hence theirs were the odd balls. |

And, yes, not many cuter than Toby!:D |
I see no Silkie whatsoever. I do see a sweet and adorable Yorkie with a very kissable little face. |
he looks like all yorkie love nugget to me!! |
Toby is adorable and all Yorkie. Cute as a button. |
Thank you everybody. |
I have gotten that same thing said about Laddy who has a beautiful silky coat, and Kyra because her coat is thicker I get the what is she a "yorkiepoo" lol I used to get offended but now I just put it up to their lack of knowledge of the breed. |
Toby looks as cute as can be and is definitely a yorkie from what I can see. :D |
Toby sure looks like a Yorkie to me and is absolutely ADORABLE! People don't recognize Zachary as a Yorkie because of his color (parti) and long tail and rather big ears! Out of the three Chihuahua's I have had, one, Foxman (at Rainbow Bridge waiting for me), had huge ears and he was my very favorite. Louise |

What I see is an adorable Yorkie! My local Petland sells "yorkies" with questionable backgrounds. No AKC - very obviously not quality, they look sad and pitiful. Makes you want to buy them all to rescue them, but I know that they would only be replaced by others in the same condition. I assume they are puppy mill pups . I have not stepped foot in a Petland in several years - the last time I saw a family fawning over a "yorkie" and I quietly cautioned them about pet store pups, gave them YorkieTalk's website and shared a few questions they should as when looking for a pup -- What registery - if it isn't AKC then you don't know what you are getting..... What is the health guarantee Can I speak to the Vet who has taken care well puppy check ups How was the puppy raised - in a home environment or in a cage.... Of course a Petland employee couldn't answer ANY of them without putting their foot in their mouth. |
Looks like a yorkie to me. |
He is a very cute YORKIE! :D |
