Ahi's Spay is tomorrow.. :confuse2: I'm such a nervous wreck! I don't know how you all got through it. I keep loving her this morning with hugs and kisses. I keep whispering to her telling her "I love you". I feel insane. I look at her and think "my gosh..you're so tiny". I know that she will be okay but in the back of my mind i'm like am I sure? I'm already worrying about her recovery. Will she be in a lot of pain? Will she eat okay. Gah!!! I'm a mess. :( I have her Kissee Collar, her new Lucy's Luxury Charlie bag(so she will be more comfortable) and her favorite blankey. Does anyone have any advice on what I will need to make her more comfortable after her surgery? What is best to feed her since she is so picky to begin with? Any advice is very much appreciated! |

it is natural to worry but i am sure she will do fine. she will most likely have some pain but the vet should send home some pain meds with her. mostly just keep her quiet and warm. i am not sure about what to feed her. she may not want much the first day anyway. sometimes the anesthesia makes their tummy sick. maybe a little wet food warmed up to entice her to eat hope the surgery goes well and she bounces back quickly |
Make sure the vet gives you pain meds! Ours didn't and we had to run to petsmart. Jaeger's tummy was upset but he was still hungry-we just fed him chicken and rice for 2-3 meals and he was fine. |
It's a nerve wracking time for sure!!! I'm sure she will be just fine, just think of the thousands of Yorkies here that have been through this and were A-okay;) I was told to give mine half of their normal meal that night, and if that was well tolerated, to feed normally the next day. She might like some plain lowfat yogurt, that seems to soothe the tummy. I bet she will surprise you and the next day, act like nothing ever happened:laugh: That's what both of mine did, they were out of it and mopey that night but the next day I had to use the ex-pen to keep the wildness down. Definitely get pain meds. Some vets don't give them, but I can't imagine having my tummy cut open and then no pain meds:confused: I think that they believe if the dog feels some pain, that they'll be more likely to take it easy, but I think it's kind of cruel. I'll be thinking of your little Ahi, and you, tomorrow:love: Everyone here will "hold your hand" throughout the day, don't worry!!! |
Thank you! She currently eats boiled chicken. She hates rice. Will spit out every grain if mixed with her food.lol I also give her sweet potatoes and other veggies. She just recently started eating kibble.(YAY! lol) Do I put her in her carrier or hand carry her out of the vets after surgery?(Sorry such a stupid question but i'm clueless) I just don't want her to hurt more than she needs to. :( |
Bless your heart, I can totally can sympathize with you. I was a complete wreck when Yazmin was spayed months ago. It turned out she wasn't in as much pain as I was! I took her to my Vet 3 days in a row after her surgery worrying she was in a lot of pain because she didn't want to move and seemed to be lethargic. The vet assured me it was only the mild pain medication that was making her sleep alot and to expect her to be uncomfortable for a few days. He also adviced me to calm down since they do pick up on our feelings and that Yazi would heal much quicker. She was fine and back to normal with in a week. I brought Yazi home in her carrier so she could lay how ever it was most comfortable for her. Sending best thoughts and wishes to Ahis ;) . |
Well, if you're going to put her in a car-seat then you can gently hand carry her, but if she'll be staying in the crate for the car ride home, then just put her in the crate. It's amazing how quickly they bounce back, though, the hardest part for me was keeping each of the girls calm and quiet after their spays. |

You will be nervous no matter what, so just know that it is normal and try to keep busy as you wait for post surgery call from the vet saying it all went well. When you pick her up she will still be drowsy and clumsy for a while due to meds, so let her sleep it off in the most cozy quiet place possible. Vets seem to offer pain meds as an option. Definitely take them just in case she seems uncomfortable later in the night, like if she is trembling or whining. It will also help her sleep. Since she is so tiny, double check the dose with the vet for her weight. My vet sent me home with liquid pain med, pre-measured in a syringe for each of my girls, so no guessing at the amount. My girls all did fine, and I was amazed at how normal they were acting 2 days later. I really had to watch them so they wouldn't try to jump up on the couch, and I carried them up and down stairs. Give us updates and come here for support. It's gonna be a tough day, but you'll make it and be relieved to have her home soon. Good luck Ahi! |
Will be thinking about you tomorrow too. How old is Ahi now ? My vet was discussing spaying my girls when I was in yesterday but I said they were too wee. He said it could wait a bit yet but the younger they are the quicker they recover. Hope everything goes smoothly and the day passes quickly. |

Omgosh Roni, I am nervous with you (all the way from south africa) BUT i know Ahi will do great . Think about it this way, this time tomorrow it will be all aver and she'll be safe and warm at home (not sure what time it is there but you get my drift) |
One thing I did, was bring Sugar's jammies and asked my vet to please dress her before she woke up from the anesthesia. It was December (but we do live in Florida) and I know that after surgery it is important to keep their body temperature up, plus, jammies are just cozy when you feel like poo :( Sending :hands: and  and  from :ip: Florida :wavey: |
Keeping Ahi in my prayers, she will be fine. Miss Priss acted as if nothing had happened by the next morning and I had a hard time trying to keep her calm. Thankful that my vet gave pain pills and told me to them to her even though I thought they weren't needed. I swear they are so precious and tug at our heartstrings... |
Sending prayers for Ahi for a safe and successful surgery and speedy recovery. Also praying for her mom that the day will go by quickly. :) |
I was really nervous when Jaeger had his....but he was back to himself about a day and a half later. We were told to walk him before we left because we dropped him off at 8a and picked him up at 11a-you may want to ask. I held jaeger the whole way home (bad, i know, but I wasn't driving and he was miserable) but I'd suggest a crate over a car seat. |
I"ll hold your hand tomorrow and you hold mine on Monday :) *hugs* I know just where you are right now. I'm there too. |
Hugs Roni! Know you have a huge support group here. The waiting is the worst, and I think most of us have been there. Hugs to you! |
It is an awful experience having to take out babies to the vet and leave them! I felt like I had betrayed her. I was so glad when I was able to pick her up. She acted so sleepy and down and out the first day. I felt horrible for her. The next day she was considerably improved and the day after that she acted like nothing had happened!:) If you do give her pain medication ask the vet what kind it is. Some give anti-inflammatory meds for pain and they can cause more problems than good sometimes. The stronger pain meds will make you baby sleepy for a longer period of time. That has it's good and bad points also. Usually your little girl will be wanting to sleep off what they gave her at the vet's the first day and will start to get interested in getting back to normal the second day. I'm glad you have the soft collar for her. I hate to see any dog with those hard plastic things on that strain the poor darlings neck. |
Keeping little Ahi (and you) in my thoughts and prayers... Hugs, |
Aww...I bet she will do great... I posted about Luma's spay a couple weeks ago...I was such a mess!!! I held her so much that morning and gave her tons of kissies...and the vet took her while I was in the middle of paper work, so all I got to give her was a quick hug and said I loved her...told her to be good..and she was gone. I felt like crap. Got in the car and immmediately burst into tears, cried for a good two or three hours...lol. I'm so dramatic. Luma was SO happy to see me, the vet was going over instructions with bf and I, but I wasnt even listening...just holding her so carefully and loving on her! She was so sleepy that day. We didnt cone her unless she was out of our sights. Only thing was she had a little trouble going poo the first two days...it must have hurt her :(...also, she mustve truly been so scared...I honestly think she was a little traumatized by the whole thing. She was VERY shaky, trembly all over, nonstop...she is just now getting back to her old self, 13 days later. It was heartbreaking to see her so frightened, but that was her first time being left somewhere like that :( Anyways I really hope little Ahi does fantastic, and that YOU can stay strong for her! Will be in tomorrow for an update! Try to get good rest tonight...I will be praying for a routine spay and a speedy recovery. |
She will do great :D Update us tomorrow when she gets out of surgery. We will be thinking about her! |
