Drooped Ears/Surgery? Hi.. Im new to this forum, But very glad I found it!! I have a beautiful and SO sweet little yorkie "Falula" who is 1 1/2 years old. Her ears have just never 'stood up' and a couple people have mentioned to me that I may want to consider a surgical procedure to correct the drooped ears. Im curious if she is too old for that now? Would it be dangerous? She has also an extra tooth, a 'baby tooth' that never came out and her vet did mention to me that they would use general anesthesia if I should decided to have that tooth removed.. I didnt really consider the tooth any problem but lately, it seems to be causing her bottom teeth to 'push' in so Im going tohave to get the tooth removed. (My poor sweet girl needs braces ) ;-) So, Im thinking if she is going to be under for that anyway, maybe I would just get her ears clipped or whatever it is they do.. if it isnt too late.. but I'd really value opinions of you guys here... thanks so very much!! |
Hello :) . Yorkies don't get their ears cropped like Boxer's do. Their ears either go up (or you work with them when they are pups) or they don't. I'm sure you love her just the way she is. |
There are some vets who sprecialize in cosmetic procedures who can place a iten in your dogs ear. The ear will stand up= but will not be flexible. This is a very costly and IMHO not required in your situation. Love your baby drop ears or not. I have a beautiful boy that I may never be able to show due to a injury. I am working on his ear( he is over a year) will I ever be able to show him don't know. If not he will continue to be loved and will sire beautiful puppies for me. Disclaimer To clarify my position- dog was injured at his breeders home and under their care not mine. Injury to the ear is why he is not out with Peggy right now. No I am not doing the cosmetic surgery to correct the problem. I am using the tacky glue and paper bag art project inside the ear.I am making some progress. This is not a fault against him because it is due to a injury- does mean I can not show him but does not decrease his value in the gene pool. |
I know of a really poor quality Yorkie whose owner for some reason, fixated on her ear that did not stand. She had a stent put in and paid the thousand plus dollars and brought her home. The dog also had both LP's that had to be repaired. Result-knees are fine; ear is back down.. Just work with the ears using the common methods and love your baby as much as you already do..I read an article written by a man who said he could get ears up as late as 2 years old. He used the fold-over part of brown paper bag and glue.. |
ears Oh, RiniW I remember her doing that...that poor Yorkie. I realize many see no difference in repairing ears and docking tails...but in my eyes they are miles apart. I am not doing any surgery on any body part unless it is needed to stop pain or improve life quality...myself included!! LOL |

Hi! I would have the baby tooth pulled, but no way would i alter the ears in any way. Some yorkies ears just don't stand. Leave them just the way they are and Kim is right, yorkies with their ears down are just as cute! |
I have a yorkie with floppy ears. I worked so hard trying to get it up. For a time it did before he got an ear infection and went down and never went up again. It did bother me that it didn't go up and I have thought about cosmetic surgery but I ask myself "WHY?". I don't show him in conformation nor does it benefit him in anyway but to improve his look in my eyes( he doesn't care). Besides, I couldn't see put his life in danger and inflicting pain on him for that selfish reason. And at the end it really didn't matter to me, I can honestly say, I like him the way he is. |
my pup's ears are still droopy with no signs of it standing up in the future and i'm fine with that. in fact, i thought it was better 'cause with floppy ears, i figure run a smaller risk of getting getting water into his ears when i shower him. this may be misconcieved, but oh well. :D |

We have yorkies here with drooped ears and they usually look much better that way! :D Love her the way she is. I love yorkie ears floppy and upright.... both are so cute. My advice is to chill out about the ears and use the money you would have spent on surgery to buy SQUEAKY TOYS!!! |
I wouldnt put my dogs through surgery because of floppy ears. I would try taping them if I were you. If not floopy ears are cute. |
I wouldn't do it. What's the point. Your yorkie is going to be in pain during the recovery period and then there is still no guarantee that it will stay up. I've seen floppy eared yorkies and there is nothing wrong with the way they look. |
My little Rocky's ear's will stand up one day and flop the next. It does not matter if his stand or not. He cute and lovable either way. I have heard about these surgeries to correct their ears, and I have heard they are very painfull. Anyways, floppy eared yorkies are so cute. |
One of my pups has erect ears and the other has floppy ears. I love them both and would not change his floppy ears, even if there was a painless, inexpensive way to do it. It adds personality to him. He is our little man! |
