Have you ever Ok has anyone had the groomer tell you in order for your dog s coat to grow pretty you need to cut all their puppy hair off and then start. Even her vet which was standing there agreed. I told them not to touch her face. If any of you hhave pics before/ after cut/ and coat now pics please share. If not.... Have you got any input? |
n I dont agree I think it looks good when you let it grow out |
I have been told that, but I did not listen. I am letting Tobys hair grow out on it's own. I was actually told because of the groomer messing up on him and cutting him so uneven the first time I groomed him, that I should shave him and start over, but I do not really want to do that either. |
I think it should grow out as well. Here are my before and after pictures ( I cried), but I must say that Max's hair is growing in beautifully now. It has been 4 months since these pictures and I love the cut we got him a week ago. His hair is getting to be very shiny and silky blond. Soo cute. I will try to get some new pics for you tomorrow. ;) |
2 Attachment(s) I don't agree with that. Here is my 5 year old who never had her hair cut and I only do a tiny trim at the end when it drags to floor too much. And this is my 10 month old girl that's never had a trim. I don't know why anyone would want to cut the puppy's hair off. |
Sorry. I can't get my pictures on now. :( Coming soon... |
I love their hair. Not gonna cut my baby`s hair off. |
I remember Copper's puppy coat was nasty. Combing it out was painful and weird. I finally cut him short. He has a nice coat now. I like him with a short cut. He looks cute and well groomed. |
Maybe it depends on what type of coat your puppy has. I know that many groomers are shave happy. When Gracie was a puppy there were changes in her fur as she grew. We just had small amounts of her ends trimmed as she grew. Kind of like what a person would do with long hair by keeping the ends trimmed. She has a silky coat though and I don't really know what a cotton coat is like. |
Jaeger is 6 months old and is smack in the middle of a fur change right now. When his face fur started growing out, I trimmed the black off his chin and mouth (it made him look like it was wet/dirty constantly, because it was only on the ends) and I trim the hair on his nose so he can see and his paws so I can get to the nails, but other than that, he has never been groomed. I always here how shave happy groomers are and I don't like that look. In addition, he's half doxie, and though he's got mostly yorkie temperament and coat, I don't think his fur is quite as long as most yorkies are at 6 months old. I feel like the best way to get the coat to transition healthily is to comb regularly. I comb Jaeger with a conditioning spray every day and when I'm done he's got a silver dollar sized hair ball from all the loose puppy fur that i combed out. |

His fur matts so quickly. And getting the matts OUT is painful for both of us . I comb him both morning and evening and when we are done each time, there is not a tangle in him. Come next combing time, he is matted again. I don't even put clothes, a collar or harness on him because it makes it worse. Besides, I think Biewers look cuter in a puppy cut! :):):) Louise and Zachary |
I live in on the NW side of Houston and as you can guess, Houston has a zillion groomers at least. On this side of town though, I have only been able to find ONE groomer that has nothing but positive said about him. Of course, I am having to wait 3 weeks for an appointment and that's hard because Zachary looks really ratty right now after having to cut out half his coat due to matts when we got him a month ago. Everything is growing back in and I think a short cut will help it all to come in even. There was a while there, after I first got him, that we called him "Zachary bare butt"!! Louise |

Re: update Well im not sure what type of fur she had but it didnt feel silky or coarse. It didnt matt horrible just got little snags here and there on her feet and sides by mouth. She had alot of wavy in her hair though. She also got spayed three weeks ago and for some reason they cut a chunk of her coat off on the side where it showed. When i took her to groomer the vet said if you are going to let her coat grow out you need to take off all this puppy coat because its to fine. I think she is beautiful either way but some girl said i ruined her and she looks like a chihuahua not a yorkie :( i also wanted to leave the hair she had grown on her tail to hide the nub but the groomer said she would look like a beaver if i did. Im just scared it will take to long to grow back and that it will come back in a worse coat.
