Do you guys have pictures of it before cut after cut abd now that its grown? |
I have lots of pictures of my pups and my fosters...and could post before and after of the one I mentioned but I don't think it would tell you much. The hair was matting like crazy but I did not focus on taking pics of it. Maybe yorkiemom1 has some. |
There are a lot of people who like to keep their dogs cut short and that may be part of the reason why groomers are accustomed to shaving dogs short. Your dog looks like she has a nice coat. As long as you comb her daily and keep her clean and conditioned her coat should grow back nicely. I would not let others tell you how you want your dog to look. You know what you like. I have had the bad experience of having a groomer decide what they wanted to do with my dog without asking. I know what I want and if the groomer won't do what I want then they don't get my business. I like little long haired dogs and I don't mind doing the daily combing to keep her looking nice. She now has a grown out coat. We did cut the length a bit for summer but I would not consider having her shaved down. If you want her coat to grow out just keep doing the dally combing now so she stays accustomed to it. I would look for a groomer that you can trust to do exactly what you want. Most of the chain stores are trained there at the store and if you get a bad cut they really don't care. If you can find someone who specializes in small long haired dogs that would be a plus but always check them out well before you decide to let them get their hands on your baby. |
So you guys think she looks bad or that i "ruined" her or that she looks like a chihuahua/mixed breed now? Be honest. Also i dont know how getting it cut short is going to make it grow even because its all different lengths. It seems like it will look choppy and stick out everyywhere when it grows which is why i wanted to see someone s after being cut pic and now. |

She is adorable and her hair will grow back just fine! |
2 Attachment(s) Here are before and after pics of my Armani. Now, this is not a puppy, but an adult pup. I had him cut in 2009....and the second pic was taken in 2010. So, it took one year to get to that length. Attachment 370934 Attachment 370935 |

Shaving or cutting off hair does nothing to change the folicles under the skin so there would be no benefit as far as getting prettier hair. Chloe has had a couple of hair changes in the past few years and now is getting a nice dark blue silver coming in. I think the reason this "wives tale" (people believe this for humans too) is that when you shave off all the baby hair it of course will grow in differently but really it was going to do that anyways :) I say cut your little ones hair anyway you like. Oh and for anyone that struggles with mats I have found what I think is by far the BEST detangler on the market. I have used everything including cowboy magic and nada. So I bought tropi clean detangler spray not expecting much and the stuff is awesome!! No more painful brushing and her coat looks great too. |

i think she is ADORABLE! i see no resemblance whatsoever to a chihuahua. i always think....after the hair is cut it's temporary, not permanent and it grows in so fast. so it's not something she's going to be stuck with for the rest of her life... i always find it interesting to watch it growing back....some stages are really pretty... you should see what my poor Kiva had to experience in my hunt for a decent groomer....some of her haircuts were horrible! one terrible groomer (when she was a puppy) shaved her entire body down to the extreme when she got terrible mats from spending a week on the boat & swimming in salt water. she looked like a miniature deer! but guess what? it grew out and the only evidence of it was some pictures i took. |

I think she looks adorable!!! |
I was looking at Yorkies on a rescue site last night and saw a Yorkie that DID look like a Chihuahua! The woman took a little guy with a beautiful full coat to the groomer and when she picked him up they had shaved every bit of hair off the poor little thing! I think I would have lost it totally! They did not leave a long hair anywhere! There was no way you could tell it was the same dog! Some people say groomers do this because of mats but he had no mats! Do these groomers hate hair? Your little girl looks cute. No where near like a Chihuahua! |
Both babies are just too cute |
Thank you guys so much and the pics of your adorable guy really helped reassure me. I really appreciate all the compliments i love the little turkey and she is beautiful to me anyway. The only thing i would change is her hyperness and wanting to eat everything, i feel like i will never be able to let her just live with us in the whole house- even when we are around because you cant turn your head for two seconds because she is eating things even if she has to climb to find them that we have put up. She is very quick and so to keep her safe for most of the time she is confined to one room. Maybe thats just age or at least i hope :) |
