Dinner time= ?? At dinner time where are your pups at? Since DH and I got our butts chewed out by the Vet  and having Peanut get really sick from giving him Table Foods , we have been in the process of Training Peanut :xfingers: When we use to eat dinner, Peanut was on the couch, standing on Dh waiting for bites.... :grin2: Now when we eat, I make him lay in his bed, his bed is right under the TV, which the Tv is right across from us- so he has front row at looking at us.. It only took about 2 days for him to Stay in the bed the whole time. :bravo: :cheer: So far so good, then when we are done he gets he treat! ( Dog food treat :cow: I just curious if anyone else has a little routine they have at Dinner Time :cake4::2popkorn::2pizza: |
Ours are at our feet staring at us |
Ummm...We have your old routine!! Our boys lay beside us with those big begging eyes... We typically will give them a small taste (depending on the dish). We dont give them more than a small bite though.... Its terrible, i know. I need to try your routine!! |
Tibbe is usually lying on the den couch or at some point near the table, breaking discipline occasionally to dash over & look hopefully. With his latest tummy upsets, it is incredibly easy to tell him no - well, not all that easy. Still his well being being & health being all that really matters, he is sent back to resume his waiting for dinner to be over. |
He's usually sitting under my feet waiting for something to fall down. I usually put out his own food or give him an elk antler only at dinner time so he's occupied. |
Toki usually just sleeps in her bed. I'm really glad we avoided giving her table scraps so she does not beg for food or whine at us. My mom's beagle is a total beggar and will sit under the table and nudge you (I wanted to prevent this completely when I got my own doggy!)...she also looks like a small cow. So thankfully Toki just keeps herself occupied while we are eating! The worst she does is drop toys by our feet but I think that's mostly because she is bored and wants attention, not table scraps! |

In reality at the time of dinner, they WANT whatever you are eating, given they don't even know what it is, they just want it because you are eating it LOL, So I have came to my senses- Sure Peanut sits there and gives me those cute puppy dogs and and cries for a bite of something, but when I am done eating and 5 mins pass by he is over it... He doesn't give 2 craps that I didn't share, he has already moved on to bigger and better things! :D That's how I look at it now- It helps ME get through the temptation of giving something that will hurt him in the end. Having him lay in his bed is really nice- I don't have a little Yorkie using me as a bridge to get to his Daddy for bites, I don't have a Yorkie barking at me because I am not sharing, it is very peaceful! Also I think it give him some discipline, ( He never gets that) So its a Win, Win!! |

Our dogs are put in their xpen when we have dinner because they are such beggars that we always give into them. Our basset hounds go into the sun room because they are too big to handle at dinner time. So if we don't see them and they don't see us everybody is at peace. After dinner they come out and get their own treats. |

He refused his morning kibble treat for going "good potty" outside. Stool/urine normal this a.m. He last ate after midnight so waiting to give him breakfast for a while. How's Peanut? He must be better or you wouldn't be struggling with puppy eyes - lol. It's not hard when they are so sick but later, when they are better........it is HARD!!! I get you there. :) |

I will say Jackson has gotten a lot better. He's very well behaved at dinner at our regular house, he typically goes and lays down near us if we are eating at the dining room table. He's bad at my dads house because there's other dogs (competition for spilled food on the floor ) and we typically are lazy and eat on the couch lol. So it makes a difference for sure. He will just sit right near me and stare. |
If we are eating at the table she sits by my feet. If we are eating in the living room she will sit right beside me but will not beg. I had to train her not to beg. She knows if she is good while I eat she will get a treat when I am done. Giving her the treat has really helped with her behavior and attitude during meals. |
If they aren't wrestling with each other Tufty will be in his bed with a chew toy and Teegy will be lying under my chair |
