to much for all in one day? My 8month yorkie is getting neutered tomorrow. But he has a retained testicle so it would be a bit more complicated. He also has to get baby teeth pulled out. I believe there are 4 of them (top and bottom canines). I was also thinking about getting him micro chipped that day. Is it to much to go through all in one day? |
No, It will basically be like a spay surgery & retained baby teeth are often pulled during a spay or neuter surgery. Welcome to YT ! |
My girl is getting spayed on Thursday and she is also getting microchipped and having two teeth pulled. I would say it is best to not put them under multiple times, for multiple procedures. It's prob better to do it all at once but I wouldn't know for sure due to his neuter being more invasive. I do know chipping is quick and easy (I've done it at the shelter I work for). Definitely suggest getting pre op blood work because it willl show if he is healthy enough to go under anesthesia. Good luck tomorrow, and please post an update with how he did!! I am nervous about my girls spay so I'm sure you're nervous too!! I will be thinking about you. |
Its not too much I had spay/retained teeth and microchip in one day |
It is much better to get all this done at one time rather than having to be put under several times. The microchip is just an injection but it is much kinder and easier to do while they are asleep. It is very common to have puppy teeth removed during a spay or neuter. |
I agree with everyone else....all at once. Surgery is risky, no matter who does it and how often it is done. Better to have it all done when he is under the first time. Zachary will be neutered the end of July/early August and if anything else needs to be done, it will be done then. Louise |
Georgie was neutered, dental done, and microchipped in one procedure. I think it's best since you only have to put them under once. |
I don't know about the retained testicle but Hot Rod was neutered and teeth done at once. Maggie was spayed, teeth and chipped at the same time with no problems. Good luck and let us know how he does. |
we did it all at once....good luck |
Ziva (7 teeth) and Abby (2 teeth) had the baby teeth removed at their spay. Ziva was actually more comfortable without the second row of teeth, which had been bothering her- Abby- couldn't even tell they were removed! The gums go right back .There should be no "wound" or soreness. |
I agree with what everyone said and especially the part about the pre blood work. I used to be cheap and did not want to have it done on a puppy but I have come to realize how important it is, not only will you know if it is safe for him to be put under, you will also have a base line of where he is at with all his functions as he grows older. Make sure you ask for copies of all tests you have done, you never know if you will change vets in the future. Best wishes for a succesful and quick recovery |

Teegy had all done at the same time too. Microchipping is nothing compared to the other. |
How did your little baby do? Is he home yet? I hope all is well! Let us know how it went!! |
I don't think that it's too much. Our girls did well with baby teeth extractions and getting spayed at the same time. I would be best to do the microchipping while he's under so it won't hurt him. I think it should be fine. Hope everything goes well for you. :) |
thanks for all the replies! I just brought him home, and hes painfuly sleeping. The vet said the Neuter went Verry good. She didnt charge me for the retained testicle because she found it very close to the other one. I was just disappointed because they weren't able to do his teeth. He has all 4 canine baby teeth that haven't come out yet at 8 months. The bottom canine grew in differently than they were supposed to. and one little mistake could break his jaw. The vet office was very busy that day and she didnt want to rush through them and make a mistake. a normal retained baby tooth would take 5min per tooth to remove, but his would of tooken 15-20 per tooth. And they are VERY solid. not one little wiggle. But she did say that they wernt affecting him at all. None of the plaque, smell, bite etc... She did offer me to come back to get his teeth removed for a cheaper price than what they normally would of done it. but im still pretty disappointed that i have to drive all they way back their (35-40min), put him under anesthesia again, and get them removed. Im thinking i would just wait a bit longer too see if they would come out on their own(doubt it). Does anyone have any tips on how to make them looser? |
that's a wise decision, Teegy had a baby tooth just fall out back in March, you don't want to put a toy breed under again |
