| Cilla | 10-18-2012 12:18 PM | I have had my yorkie tested for everything by 3 different vets. She had surgery to see if she had a liver shunt, since the tests pointed to that. She didn't have an external shunt, but they said it was probably the internal kind that are like little vessels inside the liver and that can't be corrected with surgery. My vet called a specialist in Oklahoma City and they told her to prescribe the Keppra. This was previously used on humans, but now can be used on dogs. This is a lot safer than phenobarbital. The first few days, she was sluggish, but now is like a normal dog. Before she got on this medication, her seizures increased to several a week. It was heartbreaking to watch. Now, she is a happy, spoiled, playful little angel. I feel like this is an answer to my prayers. I am so thankful. We have her medication compounded in Conway, AR at a pharmacy for canines and mailed to our house. I hope your little yorkie doesn't have anymore seizures, I know how you feel. I wanted to share this information, because it has helped our yorkie and we went through a lot to find the answer. |
