Im SOOOO glad I did not have poop eaters but one time they did eat duck poop. Both of them got a NASTY virus from it and had bloody diarrhea for a week each! It was AWFUL! Then the 14 days of antibiotics 2x a day with a pill popper bc they hated pill pockets and found the pills in everything else so I had to force them down. Now I'm super careful about bird poop of any kind. Vet said bird poop is the worst, its so full of bacteria. |
Yeah, I can remember when I saw my little Princess eating Ringo's poop for the first time. I was sooo disappointed (and a little nauseaus) when I thought back to all those mommy kisses. Bottom line - she doesn't eat Ringo's poop any more. But take her for a walk on a trail filled with goose poop and she acts like she's in a buffet line. Little stinker. Sometimes I just carry her until we get past the goose poop. |
My yorkie mix did that as well, not her own, just certain ones she'd find...and bunny poop. She and her bff Max (JRT) would sneak and eat bunny poop. Vet said bunny poop was dangerous, bacteria, disease. Besides being GROSS! |

I heard the pinapple works but I tried Solid Gold's SEP (stop eating poo) you sprinkle it in thier food, it is working really well so far. Also for other dogs poo I tought the "leave it" command. This also works if you see them poo and cant quiet get to it in time, you should use high value treats until they "leave it" consistantly. You have to really stay on top of it though, so far mine is over 1yr and hasnt grown out of it. I heard some never do. Luckily I think the SEP is doing the trick. |
Raelle used to eat the cats' doo doo all the time til I put up baby gates to keep her away from the litterbox. Orion I caught eating his own...EEEWWW! I haven't caught either of them lately, so hopefully they have outgrown this gross sport! Sorry I'm not kissing a dog with poopy breath! Disgusting!! |

I will try all the above metioned. I feel sick just thinking about her nasty habit. I give her the food our vet recomended, it must be missing somthing!? Deter, Is that a brand name? Do your sweeties like pineapple and bananas? or do you have to mash it up and mix it in wet food? How often do you feed it and what amount at each feeding? I don't want to make her tummy upset.. Thank you for the advice. Such a nasty thing for a princess ...YUCK ! |

Pretty much all dogs will eat any cat's poop. Cats eat a very high protein diet, and leave behind high protein doggie treats. It's not as clear why dogs eat their own poop. If they eat their food too fast, they might not fully digest all the protein, once again leaving behind tasty, high protein poops.Or if their diet is unbalanced, they may look for nutrients in unlikely sources. And bottom line, dogs are just more into poop than people are, and may decide that it's a fun toy, fun to roll around in, and/or fun to eat. We might feel differently ourselves if candy canes came out of our butts.:eek: |
Mine doesn't eat poop...but will roll in it if we don't watch her when on walks! :eek::eek: Our vet said cat poop is like "candy" to them...like quicksilver just said. It is also very dangerous for our dogs to eat cat food...to high in protein. Also the cat poop could have worms and other nasties |
Is this poo eating an issue something that is limited to dogs that are crate trained or are all dogs prone to this problem? I personally have never heard of it until I starting reading about it here and I have had dogs all my life. |
