Wow ok, I do have coconut oil, but didn't know that, I will have to try and yes the mink sheen is going down the toilet with five flushes!!!!!! I cry when I watch Bambi every time and to think these animals are being killed, NOT!!!!!:(

Plus with the MinkSheen, by it being from the mink, the smell is not that pleasant but to, I never smelled a mink!

Alternative to mink oil - argan oil. Just mix in a few drops with the shampoo you're using. No minks harmed;):)

OP........I'm currently using Spa Fresh facial scrub, Nootie or Silk Elements for shampoos and Iv San Bernard's PEK conditioner.

I'm thinking of switching to WEN though, after using it on my hair for 3 years now. My hair color has gone back to it's youthful darker color, and is so soft now! The chemicals in shampoo strip your hair of color along with the natural oils. Over time even natural hair color is lightened considerably with shampoo use. I'm thinking yorkie coats that go light, may benefit from WEN.

I will have to try that, it makes a lot of sense. Since my Blue Ivy might have hair loss issues, I want to prepare myself for Shampoo and Conditioners that won't harm her in anyway, but we haven't gotten that far yet.

I wondered about WEN myself. I was watching an ad about it and think it would work for me and my pups! I am currently on a search myself!

I use double the conditioner of YSS to the shampoo. I only have the waxy feel after the shampoo. But it goes away with the conditioner.

I thought about trying the WEN on the pups before, but it isn't cheap and with this many to bathe, it would cost a small fortune with WEN. I did read on another forum, that WEN is simply hair conditioner with cleansing type herbs added, (rosemary, mint, etc.). This person suggested using the Suave Rosemary mint conditioner for the very same results as WEN but MUCH less expensive!

I will tell you it took some time for me to get used to using WEN. At first I didn't like it all, because it's so different from a lathering shampoo. But, after 3 years now, my hair is almost amazing, in that it looks like it did 20 years ago. I don't have gray hair, just an occasional one shows up, but my hair was about 10 shades lighter from all the color stripping from shampoo use. Now, it's a rich deeper brown, before it was a washed out dishwater blonde color.

I've used Nature's Specialties Plum Silky shampoo and Re-moisturizer conditioner on Tatum for years..... ever since she came back from the groomer looking and smelling so great when she was about a year old. It works so well for her hair... keeping her silky for about 2 weeks at least. I also use Chris. C. Ice on Ice before blowdrying and then before brushing. I've tried Mink Sheen and others but had problems with her being greasy after a few days. All yorkies hair is different though so it's trial and error in finding the perfect one. We got lucky with her type of hair.... sometimes I don't even brush her for a week and still, no tangles.

Im glad you let people on here know that minks are killed to make minksheen. I didnt know and I used the shampoo but no more. There are too many other products you can use where an animal is harmed

I use yorkie splash and shine:p and I have used mink sheen in the past. I am about to start too use it again as a natural flea replant.

I have an idea for you...there is now some much cheaper WEN-like products at Walgreens, Drugstore.com and blah blee -- can't for the life of me think of their names, but maybe give those a try for the doggies....? I like this idea, esp for Marcel's coat, which can be high maintenance....let me know if you try something like this!

When it comes to bath time fore our beloved Yorkies, we all want our yorkies to have that nice and fluffy look, which my Yorkie gets her coat nice and shiny and fluffy with the shampoo AvoDerm located at Petco. The price for the shampoo is usually $6.99 and for the conditioner it is usually $8.49 . It's a little pricey but it's worth the results that it leaves on your Yorkie afterwards. Hope this helps!

I always find my way back to Bio-Groom protein lanolin shampoo and Bio-Groom Silk Conditioner. I use Chris Christensen Day to Day , and use Ice-on-Ice detangler when needed. I also love Yorkie Splash and Shine for it's natural ingredients and clean fresh smell. I personaly do not care for Mink Sheen.

I really like the argan oil for myself, but never thought to add it to shampoo. Great idea, thanks for the tip Jen!
