Yorkie puppy coloring 1 Attachment(s) We put a deposit on a particular yorkie puppy and are scheduled to fully adopt soon. We noticed that the dog we chose seemed to have changed quite a bit in coloring and ears since the last photo we received. Please see attached photo comparison. Your advice is really appreciated. The image on the left is the photo we received at a little under 7 weeks of age. The image on the right is her now at 8 weeks. Is it possible for her to change this much in 11 days? (We did see the puppy and litter (2 girls and 1 boy) twice before putting down deposit but it is hard to recognize the same pup as they grow. We're wondering if the girls were maybe switched. We'd love your assurances that this is the same dog as we set our hearts on the girl in the 7 week old photo). |
It doesnt look like the same pup to me |
I agree, it doesn't look like the same pup. The pup on the left looks like it has much more black around the eyes & on the front leg. |
No, not the same puppy unless dye was used...and I doubt it. |
No they change but not a lot at that age. It don't look the like the same one to me. |

It's taken from a different angle, and the lighting might be different though - what will your next step be? :) Sally + Harry x |
usually when someone picks a pup the breeder will microchip it right away in order to properly identify and not get them mixed up, I would put that question to your breeder and say it doesn't look like the same pup. Tufty and his brother both had white blazes on their chest his was thin and his brother wider, did you see any markings on your pup that you recall when you made your choice? |
I would go back and look at them both before I would accuse of switching. They can change looks as they grow. I would for sure visit and see first hand |
It doesn't look like the same puppy to me. I got Toby at 6 weeks old and the only difference in him between 7 and 8 weeks was he got a little bigger. This pup went through a major transformation even the ears. |

I think that in the picture on the left the pups face looks darker than in the picture on the right but I'm not sure if this is the lighting in the picture or not? Often when they start to teeth the ears can fall a little so it's possible this is why the ears look different. I would contact the breeder and ask her why the pup looks so different in the updated picture. You may be able to tell better if you go for a visit again to see the pup for yourself. You will likely recognize the puppies behavior and personality during the visit too. :) |
It doesn't look like the same dog to me either. Ears that are up don't usually go floppy in a week. Strange. |
I think it is the same puppy. Some can lighten up a lot in a weeks time, it depends on the bloodline. I really think it is just the angle of the camera and the lighting that makes the two pictures look different. The puppy is adorable. |
I agree that some of it could be the lighting , but I still think the pup on the left has much more black on the face. Also the base of the ears looks to be much wider on the pup on the right. And yes, the ears will fall & stand up several times during teething so you can not go by the floppy ears. The pup on the right looks much stalkier then the one on the left but that could just be hair growth & a possible bathing. Still would not explain the drastic color change in the face in only 11 days time. |
Definitely not the same pup. The second one looks like a morkie or some sort of mix to me. |

OP, does this breeder have any other breeds in the house ? |
The second puppy looks alot different in the face from the first puppy it is also alot bigger looking I dont think it could change that much in that short a period of time |
The second pup has a different facial structure than the first and the ears don't look the same. It looks like two different pups to me. |
Just an idea Quote:

My thoughts exactly......DRASTIC color change in mask on the left from the right, in a very short period of time. Ears can go up and down with teething, even over night...but the ears on the left are definately narrower than the ears on the right...look at not only the top half of the ear, look at the base of the ear......much wider on right. I would want to, at the very least, see a picture of the other puppy....it would be better to see them side by side.... |

This is absolutely unbelieveable to me....unbelieveable she would risk her integrity if she gets caught doing this....unbelieveable she would EVER breathe a word of it to ANYONE, let alone someone she has sold a baby to before......unbelieveable she can look at herself in the mirror, or sleep peacefully at night, knowing she pulls a "switch and bait' deal on people she has TRICKED into trusting her....just UNBELIEVEABLE!!!!! NO ETHICS, NO INTEGRITY, NO GOOD......... |

Another thing I notice is that the black going up from the nose to the top of the head looks like a big stripe in both pics, not the normal coloring IMO. Do both girls look like this ? |

even an honest breeder using such promotions will say a scrawny runt may grow to be the real gem and pick of the litter even ay 12 weeks may turn out Chinese Crested looking (sorry). the real pick of the litter a breeder makes will most likely never be available for adoption-that pup will be retained until maturity to see if it is show/breeding quality. |

No no they cannot otherwise they wouldn't need to retain a pup that even at 12 weeks never turns out and is rehomed as a pet at a year-of course they have an expert eye and will retain the best based on their experience in look etc, but it's a gamble. I've heard a few brerteeders saddened they petted out a pup they never expected to turn out to be show quality, and ended up rehoming the one they retained-also breeders often breed to another breeder's dog and get pick of the litter or buy from other breeders to have new blood (genes) in their line etc and they too admit they take a gamble hoping the pup they purchased will turn out otherwise they wasted money because they will end up just petting out this prospective pup. I'm sure some breeders are very talented and can "spot them" quite early but guarantees at that age would be lies and unless they told you it's a gamble they'd be a liar. |
I'm not a breeder by any means and certainly no expert on looks or otherwise, but to me this does not look like the same puppy...so where do you go from here, please keep us posted. This is some scary stuff...do breeders switch puppies for their own purposes? So I can pay a breeder for 'A' puppy and get 'B' puppy, provided I have some kind of proof, what would be my next recourse? |
I have never seen the black mask on the face change that much in 11 days and the ears look totally different. I would say 2 diff puppies and also the 2nd one the hair on muzzle is shorter. |
