Not my yorkie but my chihuahua She is very sick...I really don't know what is going with her. She has been at the vet since early this morning, she has been vommitting blood and have explosive bloody dirrahea since lat last night. One thing that really confused me is that instead of running a fever her trmp was really low and the vet had to put her on a heating pad. Does any one have any ideas what this could be? Or what causes a low temp? |
Oh my goodness:eek:! I don't know but that must have scared the wits out of you, I know it would me!!! Sending good thoughts and prayers that your little one will be all better soon. |
how absolutely horrible, I just wish her to get better and my thoughts are with you |
Oh my goodness! I am so sorry! I hope she is better quickly. I always thought the body elevates the temp to create an unsuitable climate for micro-organism population...to kill them off and/or reduce their numbers. A reduction in temp may be different. However, I have known people who would have lowered temps when they were sick and 'running a fever' though, so not sure what to tell you...I am not a medical person...but I do know there are situations where the body isn't good at maintaining its temp...cannot remember off-hand what any are, though...except that my pre-term second child had that problem for a little while. Poor baby...poor you...try not to worry even though it's a bit scary when they get sick. {{{Hugs}}} |
Did the vet not give you any ideas ? I had a dog years ago who bled from his bum and vomited. Vet said he had injested poison probably weed killer. Hope your wee one is okay and they caught it quickly enough whatever it is . My thoughts are with you all . |
It doesn't matter what kind of dog your poor baby is. Everyone here loves pets. I am hoping and praying that all goes well with your chichuahua. Please keep us updated. I know it is stressful when they are sick. They are part of our family. |
I'm so sorry your Chi is sick. We can only guess, and you already know that it is serious. Poison is what comes immediately to mind. How-ever your vet should have talked with you, and asked a whole lot of questions about her recent health. I will keep you both in my thoughts n prayers. Please let us know how she does. Hugs((( )))) |
Hoping nothing serious is wrong with your chihuahua. does not sound good.didn't your vet have any ideas?Keeping you and your baby in prayers.:animal-pa |
Just checking back in to see if there is any news. Keeping all in my t's and p's...(((HUGS))) |
Prayers for your baby. Please up date when you can. |
Oh I was so wanting to see an update, I have had this on my mind all day...I pray your chi is alright. |
She is staying the night at the vet clinic Even though I don't like it, I know it is what is best for her. The vet said he is not really sure what it is, but that it is some kind of bacteria because it is responding to antibiotics, he said that he would rather wait to discuss possibilities with me until he has the lab reports. The only thing I know for sure is that it is not parvo. |
And that all the stool tests came back negative, so now we have to wait for the blood tests to come back from the lab. He said he is treating her symptomatically along with the iv fluids and the antibiotics. So we are in a holding pattern and just doing a lot of praying right now. I went to see her before the office closed and she looks a lot better than she did, but still not great. She was happy to see me though and I got a couple of tail wags out of it. I will go over and visit with her first thing tomorrow morning. I will keep you posted |
Saying prayers for your little chi. |
Keeping her in my prayers. |
I will pray for for her. |
Something similar happened to our vizsla last week. Scared us to death. A fecal sample showed it was a parasite. Fortunately, it lasted only a.few days and she is finally getting better, whew! Hope it turns out not to be serious, and your little chi gets better quickly too! |
I am happy they have ruled out the Parvo....bless her little heart....how sad she is sooooo very sick....at least she seems to be responding to treatment, and that too is good news!!! Even when you dont know what it is, if they will respond to symptomatic treatment, then hope is not lost for a full recovery! You and your baby are in all our prayers....anxious to see your update after your visit to the vet in the am. |
I'm so sorry your going through this with your chi!!! That's an extremely scary experience!! I'm glad to hear she is responding to some of the treatment!!! I had the exact same symptoms happen with my very tiny poodle about 9 years ago. I came home to find the exact same symptoms with him that you are describing. Like you, it scared me half to death. My dog eventually was diagnosed with irritable bowel disease. They started my dog on antibiotics, steroids, and a very bland prescription diet. He began to do much much better. He still had a little bit of blood in his stool for a few days initially, but as the medicine got into his system, it stopped completely. This might be something totally different than what is going on with your baby, but thought I'd share what happened with us. I will keep your baby in my prayers!!! Hopefully the vet is able to find the cause, and your baby can get back to complete health!! You are in my thoughts and prayers!! |
How scary for you & your baby, I will be Praying for a full & speedy recovery. |
Good news that she is responding to treatment. Also that she is alert and able to respond to you. Keep praying for her and the vet to give him knowledge and the ability to heal. |
We are all anxiously awaiting good news from the vet this am! Please let us know how your baby is doing! |

Hoping for an update...isn't it something when we all worry for the other furkids? I have always loved them. |
JUst got back from spending time with Baya, and getting some groceries. She is doing really well this morning, finally holding her temp up! She is nibbling but not really eating; however, urine output is good and she is drinking well on her own. The vomiting and diarrhea have stopped and her eyes are not as glassy as they were yesterday. The vet said that as long as she does ok tonight and tomorrow I can take her home on Monday. I will be going back around 8 tonight (when the vet goes to tuck everyone in) to visit with her for a little while. Thank you all for your kind words and support. |
Great news!!! |
Wonderful news! I hope she continues her recovery quickly. I am sure she will be glad to be home again with you. |
Oh I'm glad to hear she's doing better!! |
I hope she continues to improve! My prayers will go out for you guys! |
When I went to visit with Baya last night she was looking almost normal again. She still was not eating much, but she was wanting to be held and giving me lots of kisses and tail wags. The vet is very pleased with her progress. I went again this morning to see her and she is looking even better yet. Hopefully, all the lab work will come tomorrow and we will know what it was/is so that we will know if we need to change the antibiotics because right now she is just getting a broad spectrum. Most importantly, I hope she is able to come home tomorrow. The vet is almost a hour away from us and these visits are getting costly, not that I would do anything different I would just prefer her be able to come home. :) |
