Sunscreen for Dogs
 
For those of you who spend a lot of time doing outdoor activities with your Yorkies/dogs do you use sunscreen on them? If so, what would you recommend.

I use this one-

So far so good- I always use it in the summer- We are outside too much and Peanut loves being in the sun!!

Thanks! My girls are going to be spending more time with us on the boat, and I want to put something on them to help protect them too.

Wow, I'd never thought about this. It probably is really important when they have their summer cuts too. Thanks for posting this, we will be getting sunscreen!

No problem, hope you like it as much as I do!! Peanut loves going on the boat too :D He loves when we are floating on the water with the boat to lay up near the front!! He thinks he is really cool Haha!

Jackson is in the summer all summer long, we don't use any sun screen tho. Never thought about it? No issues.

I use Plush Puppy sun screen. I use it on the Blackies as well as Razzle. Truthfully I use it to try to keep the black coat from fading, and for Razzle don't want his steely blue to fade out, plus it is an additional protectant from water drying out the coat.

We are outside a whole lot in the warmer months. I also use mud coats on the Blackies, and of course Razzle is in his wrapper. That helps to keep the sun off their fur.

I will look this up too. It is Moka that I worry about most because of her solid black hair and it is thin. It seems the sun just beats down on her. I am not so much worried about fading though.

I actually saw sunscreen for dogs at TJ Maxx. It may not be TOP NOTCH, but if you're looking to just try it, the $5.99 price tag wasn't too bad.

Why would be kidding? Dogs have skin and can get burned. Peanut did get burnt a little on his head when he was 7 months!!

Yup I take Pnuts sunscreen and Lifejacket and throw it in his Stroller!!!!!

I just never thought about sunscreen for a dog since they have hair. I would also do anything for my dog. I have just never thought about sunscreen for a pet with hair. I can really see where it would be useful for those little hairless dogs though.

I still get burnt on my head in the summer and I have hair. Why would it be any different for dogs?

I can understand where you would never have thought of sunscreen for dogs. The reason I think of it is because growing up the sun was always a concern for our animals as they can actually burn, especially the animals that are not in the sun on a regular basis like in the house or barn. Since Yorkies are not double coated, I would think they could be especially vulnerable to the sun especially where their hair parts and leaves the skin exposed somewhat. I'm also talking about extended periods of exposure on a boat where the water reflection magnifies. I am always concerned about the sun for me and want my pets to be safe and comfortable if we're going to take them with us.

Good - glad you've been educated....!! ;) :D

We had a white cat called Lottie that actually got sunburned on her ears, we had no idea this could happen....

I ended up putting Clinique sun-block on them - but it was too late :(

She ended up having to have both ears removed and she looked like a little owl....it could so easily have been prevented, so please beware. Sally + Harry :aimeeyork x

I read on this thread that epi-pet was a good sun protection for our dogs. I ordered it on line and it was very pricey!! I am very upset that I bought it...It makes Brandy's coat so greasy.. I am not sure why it was recommended for Yorkies???

I was thinking about sunscreen last night, were you sneakily reading my mind, because I sprayed it on myself before taking them for a walk last night and thought hmmm what about the boys?
