Ahi's spay is on the countdown.... I am such a nervous wreck already! Can someone who had a barely 4 pounder tell me it will be ok? :( Any positive stories greatly appreciated. Her surgery is set for June 7th. I requested a full panel blood work-up the week before. I have her Kiss-E Cone and I think she is ready to go. I'm biting my nails already. |
Sugar was 3.5 pounds when she was spayed ~ the second time  Long story, but when she was re homed I was told she was not spayed and she had no scar. Dr opened her op and found only a uterine stump and closed her back up. That was a year and a half ago and she still has no scar!! Curri will be scheduled for a spay soon. She isn't quite 3 pounds and is only 6 1/2 months old so we have a few months yet. Ahi will do great  You are doing the right thing by getting blood work before hand. You have to put your trust in your vet and in yourself for making informed decisions  |
Poor Sugar! How was she after coming out of it? Is she a picky eater too? Ahi is so finicky to begin with i'm afraid she won't eat anything at all after it's done. :( Ok...I feel a bit better. :) |
Ahi will do fine. She is big enough and as long as you have the blood workup, then you have done the right thing. I know exactly how you feel, because I have been the same way before. I have never had any bad experiences whether they were tiny or bigger. |

She is/was a very picky eater. She ate chicken if she was hand fed and plain lowfat yogurt with active cultures (I make my own) for a day or 2 then began eating normally again. |
Our little rescue Lolita (RIP baby girl) was 3.5 lbs when we got her right after her spay and she did great :). I will be praying for Ahi to have a safe spay :). |
I hope everything goes good for you guys! We will be praying for you! |
Miss Khloe was 3.5 pounds when she was spayed at 8 months. She did great and only took two days until she was back to her normal, crazy self. I'm sure Ahi will do great :) |
I bet she will be ok but i will definitely keep her in my prayers. |
Thank you for the well wishes and prayers. It's different than if one of my kids had surgery. That sounds awful but my kids have voices to tell me their comfort level. I have to assume and guess with my little Ahi. |
My Sami is just a bit over 4 lbs and she was spayed on Friday. She bounced back so fast!! She was acting fine after the second day. I am the one still trying to keep her from being wild. Your little one will be fine. She will be up running around making you a nervous wreck very quickly, lol. |
I didn't get Uni spayed until she was almost 3, not 3 lbs, but 3 years! Bc I didn't find a vet I trusted yet. But if you have a good relationship with your vet, and are having bloodwork done before hand, Ahi will be fine! I had Uni's bloodwork done the week before and when they came back fine I scheduled her for the spay. She did great, and her appetite improved tremendously! After almost 3 yrs of begging her to eat, she now begs me to feed her! I feel like it was the best decision I ever made for her and now wish I had done it sooner. |
I will keep Ahi in my good thoughts |
Lilo was 2.1 pounds when she was spayed but everything was allright after... I was a wreck for about 2 weeks... And this was Leo right before her taping for the show... As long as your comfortable with you vet you should be fine.. Ahi will be ok! We'll pray for a speedy recovery |

Me too. I think CoCo is 4.5 pounds at most! |
ah, you're such a good mommy. ahi will do great!! :D |
aww Good Luck little Ahi! She'll be great but being a nervous wreck over it is completely normal lol I was so nervous when Geno got neutered and my boyfriend was flying to India that day so he wasn't going to get to see Geno after his neutering and it left me with taking care of him by myself. Geno honestly didn't really need much help cause he was a huge trooper. The first day he was pretty much out cold the whole time and slept on my lap. I don't even think he ate anything and maybe had a little bit of water. The next day he was up eating, drinking, going potty, and playing. Geno was only 3lbs when he got neutered but obviously spaying is a lot more intrusive so it's prob a little easier for boys...typical lol |
I'm sure she will be fine, love her name..keeping you both in my t's and p's. |

FYI all 4 of my girls were done at around 5 lbs. no problems. My vet did internal stitches so there was nothing on the outside to rub on or for them to chew on; it worked nicely and I didn't need a cone or onesies. You might ask how your vet stitches. Also there is a sticky note somewhere on YT that addresses the safest form of anesthesia and other protocol to insure best care. I'll try to find it and post, or maybe someone else knows where it is. Good luck to lil Ahi. It will be a nervous day for you, so round up some support for yourself. She will likely be out of it for a day or two, but I was amazed at how quickly my girls came around after, and did great. |
Anesthsia Protocol Roni, this is interesting if you haven't already read it: http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/yor...-protocol.html |
