Need to Vent As you all know I am trying to re-home Little Dude now that he is healthy. I put an add on craigs list and you would not believe the people who think I will just give him away. All I asked for was what it cost me to get him healthy, neutered, dental and utd on shots. When you tell people this they act offended. I simply say to that, if you can not afford what I want, which in my opinion is not bad at all, then how can you afford a vet???? Am I wrong here? I want to make sure he goes to the best home possible and I have stated in the add that I will have to have vet ref and personal refs and they still call and act offended by that to. I am ready to scream at some of these people. I wish I could find the right person for him but like I said, he is a Prince and will only go to a home that treats him as such. The more I talk to people the more I see why I have my dogs. |
I think you are doing the right thing and I'm sure you will find the best home for him it just may take a little while. |
I wouldn't even respond to them. You're right. If they can't afford the adoption fee, they can't afford to take proper care of him. There's no such thing as a free dog. You're going to pay one way or another (as you likely found out) |
I personally stay away from Craigslist. I just don't like it. I think you can attract some real creepers there. And they are going to look for a bargain. They also will not be expecting a vet reference check or anything. That is just the normal protocol with CL. I would not leave the ad up with them and look for an alternative method. Do you have a vet that might help you find a home for him? Or maybe a groomer? I know my vet helps with placements here. I have a male I am trying to find a home for as well. We are using word of mouth to try to get one and my groomer is helping too. Just a suggestion. |
I would try to find someone local that would allow you to check on the dog later, if you wanted. :) |
Donna, First of all, thank you for all you've done for Little Dude. I appreciate your kind and caring heart. Perhaps if you network with a small local rescue group, they would post Little Dude on Petfinder.com for you as a courtesy listing. This will give him greater, breed-specific exposer, and most people surfing Petfinder looking for a dog do understand there is an adoption fee. |

I think an ad in your local paper might work for you better. God Bless you for all you have done for 'Little Dude' |

Your vet, other vets around you, groomers, all excellent sources for a possible buyer. I too would avoid places like Craigs List...I dont think you are going to find the type of home for Little Dude that you are wanting and he deserves, on that site....and seems like murderers hang out there!!!!! |
craigslist should be named scamslist and i agree your only going to get people who want a handout! petfinder is a good source. wishing you lost of luck in finding his forever home!! =*(()) |
Poor little dude. I really wish that my husband and I were at the point in our lives to take in another pup. I know that he's going to find the best place to go to, and what's meant to be, will happen! :) |
I agree with the others. Petfinders, your local vet offices and groomers. I found mine on kijiji. I stayed in contact with previous owener and asked for vet papers for her. Which I know people that go to those sites won't do that. Good luck finding a great home for the little guy. :-) |
Thank you all for all the replys, hubby said to me last night that he just wants to keep him. I am at a loss for words when it comes to this man. God sent me an angel when he sent me my husband but I think 6 is to many, I just do not seem to have enough time to spend with all of them now that I am working. I am not sure what to do I will have to sleep on it |

Craigslist is awful, full of people that want the dog for free or close to it, and then they'll turn around and re-sell the dog:eek: You'd be much better off listing him here in the for sale section, or take an ad out in your local paper;) Whatever you decide, good luck:) |
You are right ! I have found that the more value a person places on something the better they care for it. Besides who cares what the unsuitable want, you wouldn't even loan them a book, so forget them adopting a dog from you ! Not only do you have the right to be picky, it is your responsibility to find the best forever home you can. |
If you decide to find a home for the dog, Petfinder is great. We are in the process of getting a dog from a rescue group, and I found Petfinder to be a great resource for finding dogs that were looking for homes. We are registered with two rescue groups (one a general dog rescue, one a rescue group that focuses on Shih Tzu and Lhasa Apso) -- both groups had me fill out a quite long application, submit 2-3 references (and they did contact my references), and a home visit -- plus once we pick out a dog, the fee is from $200-400. Anybody who is legitimately looking to adopt a dog should have no problem with any of that. |
Well I have decided,,,,,,,We are going to KEEP Little Dude Gizmo. Now I am officially the Mom of a 6 pack lol. Thanks for everyones advice but I just think he is better off here with us. |

Today's vent: credit card companies and online bill pay! One of my credit cards payment deadline is today. Lo & behold I couldn't log onto my account to e-pay because they need me to activate a new card that I have not yet received in the mail! After speaking to 3 different customer care reps they finally processed my payment. I had to ask them to waive the pay-by-phone fee because I simply had no choice! What a day :) |
It is so hard to find a good home by using places like Craigs List and even the local paper. I have tried to find homes for kittens that we have taken in and helped to raise and it is the most difficult thing in the world to answer those calls. People who do not even pretend that they would spay or neuter them when they were old enough. People who want a new kitten because their last cat got "knocked up" and they had to get rid of her! It's sickening. It's the same with dogs. People want a free animal that they consider to be disposable and something that is a temporary form of entertainment for them. I have found some of my better homes by posting notices (with photos) at various vet's offices, the post office and a few local stores that still allow such posts. It is so difficult. Even if the people appear to be decent and have vet references you just really don't know. One of the last little ones I was re-homing I started crying so hard the man felt bad and asked if I wanted to keep her. I said no. I knew I couldn't keep them all. He and his wife later sent me a beautiful photo of her sitting so pretty in her beautiful new home. I can help raise or care for a homeless dog or cat but finding the right home is the most difficult part. I have become physically ill dealing with this most difficult part of rescue. Hope you find a wonderful home for your little guy. He is so adorable. |
Gizmo, you lucky little dude:cool: When they say do you live with the Crazy Lady, you can say " no the Generous Lady" with her love. Bless You Too, Gracielove! |
