Need to Vent As you all know I am trying to re-home Little Dude now that he is healthy. I put an add on craigs list and you would not believe the people who think I will just give him away. All I asked for was what it cost me to get him healthy, neutered, dental and utd on shots. When you tell people this they act offended. I simply say to that, if you can not afford what I want, which in my opinion is not bad at all, then how can you afford a vet???? Am I wrong here? I want to make sure he goes to the best home possible and I have stated in the add that I will have to have vet ref and personal refs and they still call and act offended by that to. I am ready to scream at some of these people. I wish I could find the right person for him but like I said, he is a Prince and will only go to a home that treats him as such. The more I talk to people the more I see why I have my dogs. |
I think you are doing the right thing and I'm sure you will find the best home for him it just may take a little while. |
I wouldn't even respond to them. You're right. If they can't afford the adoption fee, they can't afford to take proper care of him. There's no such thing as a free dog. You're going to pay one way or another (as you likely found out) |
I personally stay away from Craigslist. I just don't like it. I think you can attract some real creepers there. And they are going to look for a bargain. They also will not be expecting a vet reference check or anything. That is just the normal protocol with CL. I would not leave the ad up with them and look for an alternative method. Do you have a vet that might help you find a home for him? Or maybe a groomer? I know my vet helps with placements here. I have a male I am trying to find a home for as well. We are using word of mouth to try to get one and my groomer is helping too. Just a suggestion. |
I would try to find someone local that would allow you to check on the dog later, if you wanted. :) |
Donna, First of all, thank you for all you've done for Little Dude. I appreciate your kind and caring heart. Perhaps if you network with a small local rescue group, they would post Little Dude on Petfinder.com for you as a courtesy listing. This will give him greater, breed-specific exposer, and most people surfing Petfinder looking for a dog do understand there is an adoption fee. |

I think an ad in your local paper might work for you better. God Bless you for all you have done for 'Little Dude' |

Your vet, other vets around you, groomers, all excellent sources for a possible buyer. I too would avoid places like Craigs List...I dont think you are going to find the type of home for Little Dude that you are wanting and he deserves, on that site....and seems like murderers hang out there!!!!! |
craigslist should be named scamslist and i agree your only going to get people who want a handout! petfinder is a good source. wishing you lost of luck in finding his forever home!! =*(()) |
Poor little dude. I really wish that my husband and I were at the point in our lives to take in another pup. I know that he's going to find the best place to go to, and what's meant to be, will happen! :) |
I agree with the others. Petfinders, your local vet offices and groomers. I found mine on kijiji. I stayed in contact with previous owener and asked for vet papers for her. Which I know people that go to those sites won't do that. Good luck finding a great home for the little guy. :-) |
Thank you all for all the replys, hubby said to me last night that he just wants to keep him. I am at a loss for words when it comes to this man. God sent me an angel when he sent me my husband but I think 6 is to many, I just do not seem to have enough time to spend with all of them now that I am working. I am not sure what to do I will have to sleep on it |
