Roaming free How many people let there yorkies roam free while gone? And what age are they? |
my oscar is 8 months old @ 7 pounds. he does not have free roam when i leave the house. my two bigger dogs have the rest of the house and oscar is gated in the kitchen.. :):) |
Jack has free roam now (we have a puppy pad out for him but also put him outside several times a day) but we did not let him have free roam until he was about 2 years old - we kept him crated mainly for his safety - we have 3 cats who are much larger than he is and we were worried one of them would hurt him accidentally during play but they really don't play that rough - I think it was all in our minds... LOL |
Callie has never been left alone but I would think once they are 100% potty trained and don't chew up everything and if you make sure nothing is down and around that can hurt them. |
I am glad someone made this forum I had wondered about this myself. Millie only for short periods of time during the day as aloud to roam freely around the house. Most of the time she is gated off in the kitchen and then when I go out I shut her up in my bathroom. |
Brandi has full run of the house. She is 12 yrs old and she's been roaming free for the last few years. She's potty pad trained and she mostly sleeps but in the beginning I used a webcam when I first started giving her more freedom. Now I can't imagine restricting her. I only restrict her to her expen if we are sleeping away from home. I love that she has fun of the house because she was a rescue that spent the first 7 yrs of her life breeding and spent most of her life in a crate. She absolutely hates her crate now. |
Jackson's had free roam since 5 months old. He always proved to be trustworthy while we were gone... We did it in phases though. I did leave him in a crate when I left for the first few weeks. Then he graduated to an ex-pen. Then I gated him off in my bedroom. THEN he was left in my side of the house (which is a tiled living area, a bathroom, and my bedroom) and I'd shut the door that led to the rest of the house. He's had FULL free roam of the entire house since 6 months old. |
Romeo is allowed to move around freely. He is only "alone" when I take a shower at night... when I take my morning shower one of my daughters usually watches him. The stairs to the upstairs floor is off limits (I use a baby gate). |
My boys are gated to the kitchen and family room (hard floors) when I'm away... then free roam for Marley and for Maxie, but Maxie has a 'man band' to prevent pee spots. Marley rarely, and only in desperation, will soil in the house. Maxie goes to pee pads and designated 'poo poo' places when it's convenient, but if he's not taken often enough, he just goes where he wants to. |
Bella will be 2 in June and I have just started in the last few months to allow her a little more freedom. If I was going in and out for short periods of time like an hour, I would leave her have free reign of the house. She was fine. I would try to sneak up and see what she was doing and most times she would be in her crate or on the sofa. Tonight was the first time we were going out to dinner and we were gone about three hours and sure enough when we got home she came out of her crate and met us at the door...no mistakes. She also has recently decided she does not want to sleep all night in bed with me so she gets off the bed and goes into her crate. I think she is growing up. Although last night she couldn't make up her mind what she wanted so it was on the bed off the bed all night long....I am exhausted today...lol.... |

ZoE is one & half years old and she's had free reign in the house since she was 4-5 months old. She potty trained quickly and doesn't have accidents or chew up my stuff. I'd hate to lock her up as she likes looking out the windows and all my windows are high off the ground (not a single patio or french door in the place :() |
Laddy we have to crate if gone more than a few minutes as he hates being left and will jump and scratch at the door until we return. We replaced the woodwork and door 2 times and finally decided this can't continue. I was in fear he was going to hurt himself with all the jumping. We can't put him in his xpen because he can escape from it by jumping over the top, mind you he is only 4.8lbs but he jumps to the top then over. We tried putting a top on it and he was left with a bloody head when we came home :(. Kyra would be great left out but we feel guilty locking Laddy up and leaving her out lol. |
Georgie is almost 7 and has had free reign of the house since he was about 3months old. |
