Hi I am new! Hello everyone, I am the mother to Lil Miss Cherry. She is a Shorkie (Yorkie-Shih Tzu). She was given to me by a friend at 6mos old. I have always wanted a Yorkie, but I love this lil girl very much. She is now17mos old. Talking with my vet that I have had since 2004 about her breeding. She told me she would be fine...she is great health! So on May 7th we set up a date with a friends Shih-Tzu and everything went great for 3 days. We will see in a few weeks. I just wanted to say hello to you all. Teresa |

i would love to see pics.. |
welcome to YT. Hope everything goes smoothly with the breeding:) |
Thanks everyone! |
Welcome to YT. Your Cherry looks like a real Sweetie. You can go to the breeding section and read and watch the videos. Having a litter of pups can be very scary. It helps to learn as much as you can. Best Wishes, Teresa and the Just Right Yorkies |
Thanks Teresa! |
Welcome to YT! |
isn't 17 months too young to have pups...& your vet ok'ed that:confused: |
I was always told a bitch needed to have 2 heat cycles before breeding. That should put a dog at 2 before it's considered safe. But hey, I'm not a vet. Please tell me you'll use caution placing the pups though. Never go on the word of the people looking to buy your babies. Vet checks for potential homes are a must, home visits, etc. Always ask them what happened to the last pet they had. If they "got rid of it" chances are they'll do the same when the novelty of having a puppy wears off or they failed to train it properly. A good breeder is more concerned with where her babies are going than anything else. If you need help with that when the time comes, I'd be happy to assist. |
Welcome to YT lots of useful information here :). |
Breeding a mutt when there are so many in shelters? Hmmmmmm.......... |
Yes, her vet is ok with her having puppies. She is in great health. I am giving puppies to my grown children...who love animals. One Son is in Vet school now. Only thing is I have 4 kids and all 4 want one. As for her being a mutt I think not. I would love to have 100% Yorkie but she was a gift because the person who had her couldn't keep her. I would never call one of my own children mutts since they are mixed. So I will not call Lil Miss Cherry a mutt. Yes, I have gotten a dog from shelter years ago...He had a great life with us. Lived about 15 years then passed away. He was beaten by his 1st owners. So we loved him more then anything he only had one eye. So yes Shelter are great. |

I would back one of my daughter if she wanted to help her sister with having a child yes. But I am not going to make people upset in this group or get upset by anyone. I am here because I love dogs. Please share with me Taylor a good breeder in Ga so that later this year I can buy a 100% Yorkie female. Thank you! |

Wow. 17 months old and already having a litter? I want to welcome you to Yorkietalk; I must be honest I'm not a fan of indiscriminate breeding. I hope that none of the puppies you bring into the world end up in shelters. I hope your girl is ok; she's still a baby herself. |
Hi, Lucy Mom! I know who will have them...so I know they will not be. My own children are getting them. One of my sons are in Vet school and him & his wife love animals. I plan to buy AKC Yorkie this year or 1st of next. Lil Miss Cherry was given to me so that she didn't go to a shelter. Look forward to chatting with you! |
Welcome to YT. Understand everyone on this forum is passionate about Yorkies and well dogs in general (that's what makes us all a great bunch:)) . I would never consider breeding in general but if you are maybe wait until your sweet girl is older? I don't think I have ever heard a vet say it was ok to breed at such a young age but I am not an expert on the topic. |
Welcome to YorkieTalk! Why don't your kids save a life at a shelter instead of bringing more mixed breed dogs into this world? There are yorkies and yorkie mixes in shelters all the time... |
A big welcome to Yorkie Talk |
After this I don't think I will ever post anything. No matter what kind of a dog I would never call it a mutt. Mixed dog tend to be very good dogs. |
Linda How do you think I feel! I didn't think I would get jumped on by any one. |

I think there are some very rude people on this. You just have to over look them. Do what you think is right for you. Good luck!!! |

So you want an F2 Shorkie-? Many people here are against any hybrid mixing-so am I-however I have researched hybrid breeding. You need a mixed male and a pure female per the recommendation of hybrid breeders who strive to reach hybrid breeding, you start with a purebred female and only breed hybrid past that... Why on Earth would you want to breed Shorkies though-mixes aren't readily accepted by rescues, they are the first to be put down at pounds and who wants a pet without papers unless you are getting it from rescue? I LOVE my Schnorkie-I adopted him from rescue, he was dumped by a pup mill broker. Please reconsider what you want to breed, and that's not even going into the task of considering the ins and outs of learning, preparing and planning to breed. I hope you stay here and learn, we love new people and Yorkie Talk is a wealth of information. |
