Hello, new here! Hello everyone, I am new here and thought I would introduce myself. My name is Donna, I have always thought that the Yorkie was such a beautiful little dog and have wanted one for so many years. Now I am getting down to the nitty gritty and before making the adoption I thought it best to join this group and find all the info possible to make the right choice and know all I can to be prepared to have my heart swept away by a little doll face. There is so much I want to find out, such as do I need to pay $2,000 or if I pay $500.00 am I running a risk of adopting from the wrong person, what to look for in my choice and so on. I look forward to trying to read all the info and learning about your lives with your Yorkies! Thanks, Donna in Pa |
Hello and welcome. Just be sure to check out the breeder, go to their home and see how they are kept and see the parents. Just know that a yorkie will steal your heart and your life will never be the same. |
welcome to yt.....same advice and no you shouldnt have to pay 2000 becuase even then you could end up with problems or vice versa. ck the health guarantee as well be sure they cover the baby up to one year. good luck in search and be prepared to just fall head ova heels in love!! =*(()) |
Welcome to YT, it's so nice to have you here with us. |
Hi, and welcome! There is lots of good information here that you may find useful in finding your new fur baby. Also, there are some really good books with information to help you evaluate and choose a healthy Yorkie, and, of course, as you likely already know, cost does not always indicate quality unfortunately. Good luck in your search. :yorkiesar |
Welcome to the YT forums! Lots of great info you can find here. There is also a for sale section here that you can check out. Good luck on your search. :) |

Hi and welcome |
Hi there and welcome! I was also on the hunt for a good breeder (not happy at all with Ziggy's breeder) anyway, what i did was take my time, it took me months of searching, asking lots of questions, getting personal/second opinions (i probably started annoying peiple, lol) but i have found a great breeder, the first thing she said to me was "please come over and meet my dogs and puppies and we can talk more face to face" i loved that.. Follow your gut, it it feels wrong, walk away. Good luck on your search |
Welcome to YT. |
Welcome to YT:) So glad that you are doing your homework, that will increase your chances of getting a nice, healthy pup;) Have you checked the YTCA.org website yet? There is a list of breeders, by state. Good luck in your search for the perfect breeder and puppy:) |
Welcome to Yorkie Talk. Here's a great post to get you started on your hunt for the perfect Yorkie companion - http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/fea...ead-first.html |
I think that it really depends on what you want but being a good breeder is expensive and it also depends on what you are looking for. Remember that you pick your breeder as much as you pick your dog so make sure you are comfortable with them and the environment your puppy comes from. |
It's really hard... I think most members here have only dim memories of their acquisitions... Fortunately (or unfortunately) my first baby was an adoption... I wasn't looking for a dog at all, but a woman ran into my office with this adorable dog saying she and her husband had rescued him off the busy highway in front of my office. Long story short -- he became the office mascot and taught me what I know about Yorkies. I went on to adopt another Yorkie, but that's another story! |

Please don't look at price alone... Please take a few minutes to investigate breeders on the internet. Even that is tricky... A slick website can hide a cruel breeder... Read thru the sites -- current and old ones... and see if you feel comfortable with a breeder. Some of these folks don't breed for puppies at all -- the only dogs they have for sale are those that just missed show requirements... in other words, you can get a beautiful dog, from championship lines -- it just cannot be bred. In fact, it should be spay neutered before you get it. A true show breeder won't leave it up to chance that their slightly imperfect offspring could end up in a breeder program. Go slowly... and you will find the perfect baby for you! Don't ever...ever...ever... buy from a pet shop or flea market... PLEASE! |
Hi everyone, thanks for the welcome. I am amazed by all the wonderful advise on here, things I would have never thought of. I will continue to look around so when I am ready for the final step I will be prepared!! Thanks everyone! |
Welcome Hello and welcome. I have been a yorkie lover for 25 years. I now am the proud Mom to four yorkies. They are like potato chips you can have just one. I purchased my first two from a friend that bred his female to his Dads male, so I decided before I got another yorkie after my first yorkie passed at 18 years old of kidney failure, That I would not get just one. So I got two. Jackie and Sadie. They are so close. they are best friends and they are never apart. The other two are rescues. I do yorkie rescues in my area, and Julie and Rosie both are puppy mill pups. I find on a weekly basis I see them in the local Animal controls all of the time. I have people that call me regularly to see if I can find them a home for their yorkie. They have some real lame excuses on why they need to surrender their yorkie. But that is okay, they do not deserve to keep then any way. They are much better off in their new home. If you are not set on having a puppy check your local animal control or rescue groups. Good Luck and Welcome. |
There is so much to know about getting a purebred dog and a small one in particular. There are huge amounts of people trying to take advantage of people looking for little dogs. AKC papers mean nothing about the quality of the dog. Puppy mills offer AKC or CKC papers. Dishonest breeders can switch litter registration papers around so you have no idea who the real parents of the dog are. Price is not a sure indication of the quality of the dog either. There are scamers out there pricing dogs in the thousands of dollars and claiming they are selling you a "tea cup" Yorkie. Many times these puppies are sick and many times they end up to be larger than the average Yorkie. Stick around and read as much as you can here and contact a local Yorkie breed club in your area. A good pet quality puppy from a good breeder could cost from $800.00 to $1200.00. Find out as much as you can about the breeder. Most online ads are scams from puppy mills and back yard breeders. Pet store puppies come from puppy mills. |
Hi. I am new here, my name is Barbara. I also had a dog but unfortunately he is missing. I tried a lot but didn't get any information about him. I really miss him a lots... |
Hi Donna And welcome to YT you came to right place for imformation. I am from Pa also I live in Chambersburg Pa. Where in Pa do you live? we have some other's from Pa here also. Take your time and do your home work and you will find that perfect pup. I found my perfect pup 4 month's ago she is now 6 month's old and her name is Luci. Her breeder was retiring from breeding so they could travel. I found her in a clasified ad. Went to her home a couple time's before i decided. Luci really picked me. My vet said if you want to see a perfect puppy Luci is one. She had me wrapped around her paw's in no time. I just love her she was piddle pad trained when she came to me at 12 week's old, Has not had an accident yet. But I think I got lucky. I hope you have the same success I had. Have a lot of fun in finding your perfect pup.:p |
I am in Williamsport Pa. I had spoke to a few people and have found there are rarely yorkies in the rescues here, I am not sure why. I would love to get one from a rescue, would feel like I am giving a yorkie a second chance. Thanks again. |
