1. Something to snuggle in( our first boys blanket is the thing he loves the most to this day...walmart blanket). 2. A delicious dog food of course. Dogs, like people have different tastes..we use royal canin yorkshire terrier. 3. A place to call their own...crate, play pen, etc. For those times when they just need their space. 4. Something to chew on. We all seem to prefer american made bully sticks. 5. Something to play with. Trial and error here, as no one toy works for every yorkie. 6. Something to tear up. again, trial and error here. 7. A couple of brushes and a good detangler spray. Appearance is everything, and yorkies just seem to love to look good at all times. 8. Love... 9. Attention... 10. At least one person he/she can devote their entire life to! in no particular order |

We dont have lots of money, but our boys are pretty happy...i think. what you do need is enough money to take care of them in an emergency. I might be off here, but we like to have at least 1000.00 set aside for an emergency situation. We have pet insurance, about 30 bucks per month per dog( petplan). I dont want to discourage someone from getting a dog, but you really have to plan just as you would for a child. We dont have a great deal of money and we have two yorkies, but we are sure that in the event of an emergency they will be well taken care of. The small sacrifices are worth it to us. It all depends on where your priorities lie at the time. something to think about. Lots of money is not required...but enough to take care of your hairy children is. Love, food and water are the most important stuff. Just make sure you plan ahead for the unforeseen. Thats what parents do. We love our boys, and they come first. If they could make it on their own, we might do things differently, but we know they cannot. After all, it was our choice to take them in, so its our responsibility to take care of them. We enjoy every moment! They take care of us most of the time... |
If I had to I would remortgage my house to car for a sick family member aka pet. That goes without saying. So does unlimited love? My pets are part of my family...not negotiable or disposable. |

Dog Nutritional Supplements: Nutri-Cal for Puppies, Adult Dogs & Senior Dogs |
My list was: Step thru/choke free harness- you'll need to get measurements for proper size. Matching leash/poo bag holder & poo bags. Outdoor tie out- we don't have a fenced in yard Cute dogs bowls/mat for food/water Food- whatever brand the dog was already eating and then another brand to switch them to slowly if their existing food is a poor choice Crate/ex-pen Dog beds/blanket squeaky toys Training treats/carrots Shampoo/conditioner/detangler spray- Yorkie Splash & Shine/ Isle of Dogs Madan brush/comb/hair bows/ties Savings account/Dog trust A Good Vet! |
Lots of great ideas. At least two leashes in case of breaks. Dog ID tags, and make sure if he is microchipped you change over the name and addy on the file. I use a crate carrier for the car. First Aid Kit for the dog. For the winter time here, you will need a jacket for him. |
My Must Have top 10 for an adult Yorkie: 1. Step in harness and regular leash 2.Dishwasher safe ceramic bowls 3. Maden comb & Brush 4. Wire crate and cover 5. Travel carrier for vet trips etc. 6. Unsented baby wipes 7. Microchip and pet tag 8. Yorkie Splash and Yorkie Shine 9. Kong treat holder 10. Dental care kit |
Avery's list of necessities: 1. choke free HARNESS (no collar unless around the house). Yorkies get too excited to have a collar and choke. 2. retractable leash with poop bags (responsible pet parent's necessity) 3. ANY and ALL Nylabone products (especially the chewable ones, they will literally save your life) 4. sweet, darling clothes & bandannas 5. Gulpy water dispenser (amazing for on-the-go) 6. dog cologne (for those outside days) 7. brushes (hair & teeth) 8. oral hygiene spray for better breath (or you can buy the liquid to put in water) 9. squeeky toy 10. a blanket to curl up in. We live in Louisiana (even though it's hot) and when I'm at work, Avery just likes to snuggle in something. Good luck with your new furbaby! They are amazing! |
