My baby was neautered today, something isn't right :'( Hello, I need some advice. My dog was neautered today around 9am I picked him up at noon, brought him home he's been shaking, crying and still won't urinate. I've called the vet I'm waiting on a return call andnim in an area where they don't have a vet emergency so I need to do something before they close. Has anyone had their yorkie neautered and had these similar symptoms? What should I expect in the next few days with him? This isn't like him, I know he just had surgery but he doesn't shake like this typically and if the pain meds are still in him why is he crying /whimpering? Please help, any advice I'm crying I'm so worried about him. |
...... I'm sorry but I don't have an answer except to say with all my past male yorkies, I never had that problem. I hope that your vet has called you back by now, but in the meantime, why not try posting in Emergencies Talk as I'm sure there is always someone hanging around there that may be able to help you. Please keep us informed as to how he is doing. Good Luck ! |
It doesn't sound normal but growing up we only had one boy and his nuetering went fine and I have a girl now. Do you think he could be cold have you tried covering him with a blanket or putting a shirt on him? |
Did they give you pain med's to bring home? I would ask for some. My daughter had her pup done on Monday,She said he did some whineing so she gave him some of his pain med's. Took care of the problem, but he was't shaking I hope you hear from your vet soon. Will be praying for you both.:animal-pa |
did they give him a pain injection? did they give you pain killers it sounds to me that your baby is in pain.. when my Harry was neutered, I paid for a pain injection that last 24 hours, and after that, I had 4 doses of methacam pain killer to give him. he slept a LOT the first day and the whole night, he did not pee because he had nothing to eat since midnight prior to the surgery. after I got home they told me to offer him ice cubes and not lots of water because it would upset his tummy. please call them and ask them for a pain killer..and tell them what's going on.. hugs, |
I agree, it sound like he is in Pain. :( My vet sent me home with pain meds for a few days. |
Any update? Praying he is better |
Thanks everyone! The Vet called back and said just try to keep him quiet and comfortable. Im like no crap I knew that but there is obviously a reason why he's crying. They did give him pain meds but Im not sure if it was injection or not. Since Ive last posted he's went potty and I managed to get some treats in him(he wont eat his dog food yet) has yet to drink anything either. The shaking has stopped and is now wrapped in his blanket and sleep sound on my bed!! I will be giving him part of his pain pill if he wakes up during the night. Thanks everyone for your help, It hurt me to see him hurt I even cried while holding him in my arms :( |
I am glad he is doing better. Please keep us updated. He should be getting up and around more tomorrow. |
I deff will keep you all posted! I appreciate the help, Ive never owned a little dog and it just really worried me :( My parents own big bull dogs and my parents said "oh thats normal" well I didn't think so and just needed opinions of others. I'm hoping he drinks a little tomorrow. |
Poor baby. :( So from what you are saying it doesn't sound like they sent you home with any pain meds? Glad to hear he is doing a little bit better. My guy wouldn't eat after being neutered and someone here mentioned to mix scrambled eggs in with his regular food and it worked like a charm to get him eating again. |
sorry to hear your little guy is going through this...sometimes coming out of anesthesia can cause shaking as well...and they will shake if they are in pain...which I'm sure he is...hoping he is back to himself tomorrow |

So by now I assume you have spoken to the vet by now and hopefully the baby is doing well. Just give him plenty of TLC, as my vet told me, and he will be fine in a few days. |
That is really an unusual thing to happen after a neuter. It seems as though maybe they did not use enough anesthetic? Usually vets keep surgery patients a bit longer than yours was in order for the anesthetic to wear off. Your guy may have been just coming out of what ever they used on him. It is pretty common for dogs to have a rough time when they first come out of the anesthetic. That is why the vet should make sure the dog is fully out of it before they send him home. It sounds like he is doing better now. He should not have much pain from here on out. Hopefully he will be a lot better tomorrow. Poor guy. I think they just should have kept him a little longer and maybe made sure he was warm and comfortable as he came out of it. |
