is a small beef rib bone safe? I just bought a small beef rib bone from the pet store for my baby, searched here and it made me even more confused, is it ok to give her? |
I won't do bones with mine. Too afraid they will splinter. I do the Bully sticks. Just my opinion. |
After we eat ribs or something, we will leave a little bit of meat on the bone and give it to her. We put a timer on for about 5 minutes to see how far she is on the bone. We don't let her eat the bone though. We do bully sticks too. Just keep an eye out on your dog to make sure they don't eat it. |
ya she's gotten sick of her bully sticks, i bought her one yesterday and she turned her head from it..she use to love them..so i'm looking for something new... the guy at the pet store said his girlfriend gived them to her tiny dog.. but can't trust what they tell u at a pet store.. i gave it to her for a min , then thought i'd double check on here.. and now i'm confused as if to give it back to her ..shes looking at me crying for it right now..lol now i feel like a cruel mommy... |
ok maybe i will give her it for 5 mins then take it away, thanks |
It is my understanding....and I admit I am not an authority on bones!....but I have read that it is cooked bones that are brittle and splinter, so if you give raw bones, they dont splinter. I do not give my babies bones, period! But I have done what Bailey did...give the rib bones after dinner, with a little meat left on, for just about 5 minutes, then take them up. And I DO give my little 3 week old babies cleaned rib bones to chew on....they do not have the jaw strength nor the teeth, to crack and splinter the bones, and they have a blast knawing on them....it helps with teething pain on their gums, I think. |
i also bought a "tartar buster" bone, will that be safer, its a round stinky ball of bone... |
If you got it from a pet store it should be safe..in that it's not a plain ole bone that could splinter. There is a thread on yt of a little guy who got very ill from chewing on a cooked beef bone. The bone splintered and X-rays showed bone fragments in s dogs intestines. |

I gave Pnut something like that a looooong time ago- way before my YT days. He was in the hospital and sick for 5 days!! |
Sorry I have no idea, Prissy still loves bully sticks and all bones scare me..Even my Yoshi a Peke has never had a real bone, I am just too scared. |

Im not saying your baby will get sick, but I would rather be safe than sorry! Those meat bones are not worth the sick Peanut and the $700 vet bill IMO. :D |
