Try the Texas Toothpicks, Peanut likes Bully sticks, but he LOVES Texas Toothpicks!! |
One trip to the EC and I have a feeling you are going to avoid lots of things...like hot dogs and bones. I would rather have my pup crying because I took something away than have her crying because she is sick and having to stay in the hospital. |
Ted got very ill from those rib bones too. Had a lot of success with marrow bones from the butcher UNTIL one snapped over the jaw of our lab....off to the vet. It's a circular bone like a donut, and he must have cracked it just enough for it to snap and wrap around his lower jaw. Vet said he hadn't seen that happen in 20 years...but it does happen. So sad to have no bones in the house, but better safe than sorry. |
I will occ. give mine pork rib bones. I have never had a problem with them. I take them away once they are small enough to swallow. Never, never give chicken bones... talk about splinting! Very bad for them. |
thanks i'll check out the Texas Toothpicks, they similar to how a bullystick is, i like how the bullysticks almost turn into a slimy substance while eating it..seems safe..i think i'm just going to stay away from all real bones after hearing all this, i couldnt imagine seeing my baby sick, i'd be a mess! so i'll stick to things more similar to bully sticks..and keep on giving her her baby carrots she loves.. and theodore thats crazy about the bone snapping over his jaw!! |
My DH more than once snuck bones into the house for the dogs and everytime I would find out because sure as the sun rises they would get the runs :( My vet actually has a list of No No foods and bones is on the top of the list. I have heard too many scary stories and just dont chance it. BTW the DH learned his lesson after cleaning up HIS mess a couple of times LOL. He thought he was being kind as mean Mommy wasnt letting them have the fun stuff :) |
OMG!! NOOO!!! Have a little faith n ur baby...dont feed him crap like that |
Like someone else said it pretty much depends on the type of bone. I give Lexie Raw Meaty bones and I would never give those huge cooked bones you find in the pet stores. There are a few YT members who use bison backs they get from their butchers. I love to give duck necks, chicken necks and pork ribs but always raw and with some meat that she has to work to get off. It's the best thing for oral health IMO, delicious and it's nature's toothbrush:D |
