12 weeks old today and still floppy ears? 2 Attachment(s) Our little Pixie just turned 12 weeks today and I am just wondering if their ears are usually all the way up by now? Hers are not TOTALLY floppy, I would have to say they are half way up....actually one is really close to being up sometimes and the other one might be even floppier than it was last week lol! I don't care how they end up and don't think we would go through taping them if that's what it comes down to, (how long do they usually have to stay taped for?) I'm just curious if there is still time for them to be fully upright or will she most likely have floppy ears? OOOH and I need to add that the tips are trimmed and have been for several weeks. :) Here are a few pics for you to see what I mean! |
Just tape them for a day. Use painters tape. |
Oh wow I didn't realize it could work in one day! I have no idea how to even do it but I'm sure google and youtube can help lol! Thanks! |
Pixie is too cute!! I have seen a lot of differing opinions on here from the experts but I can tell you about my little furbaby... Max's ears were half flopped and then went up at 4 months. They were completely up and then one stated to flop (a little) at 18 weeks. It decided to go back up and is now all the way up at 21 weeks. So, I think you have some time before you need to worry about taping. I like the ears both ways and think it makes a Yorkie so interesting that they go through a lot of changes. I think I saw a post on here that said Yorkies are like a box of chocolate. :D I'd have to agree and I love it!! |
chester was several months before both os his stood up, what a cuteee |
I just wanted to say....Pixie is an adorable little sweetheart! What a doll:thumbup: |
Pixie is absolutely adorable!!! I adore her coloring!! Keep the tips trimmed and when she is through teething, they could very well stay up...in either event, she will be a beautiful baby! |
Well with Pixie being too cute I wouldn't care if her ears stood up or not...She is adorable. |
she is still young..you should shave all the hair on her ears and then use some medical tape to tape them up. here is a link to some youtube videos of different methods of taping up their ears taping yorkies ears - YouTube. |
I guess it differs as far as when the ears stand up. At least you have the ears shaved so that will help a lot. I have read where some people give their puppies cottage cheese in order to increase their calcium intake. I guess that helps with the cartilage that is developing in the ear. Some puppies ears are up at 8 weeks and others go up later. I know someone posted a good youtube video of someone taping ears. Maybe you could do a search for that thread. It's a pretty common topic on YT. If I can find it I'll post it again for you. |
both my furbabies have floppy ears...Raelle is 1 year and Orion is 9mths. Ive tried taping useing painters tape...it didnt work. kept it on for a week, Raelle kept digging at it to the point of cutting her ear!! I figured ok its time to give up...Orions are half up and half down have no idea what the deal is with him...i think hes still teething though.... |
Pixie is precious and I LOVE the name! My sonic was the same way one ear would stay flopped down and the other standing up, they both stand up now, so I would just give it time.. I am more for big ears on yorkies it just gives them character. You can check out my pictures and you will see Sonic's radar ears. :) |
my gizmos ears are up now but my favorite picture is when one ear was up and one was floppy :) |
She's so cute. Bring her over to me and I will get that fixed for you. Oh wait you aren't expecting her back, are you? lol jk =) |
I heard not to play with bottom of ears. I taped 3 of mine. if you shave the ear it helps alot . you dont belive how much hair is on them little ears weighing on them. Clean ears good bry really good and tap leave one 3 days take off for one if fall back down do again. Alot of times they fall agian from teething they just dont feel good. |
Cocoa will be 16 weeks tomorrow and she has one up and one half down. Her sister millie from the same litters owner said millies were both up, so not sure. Pixie is adorable |
Thank you SO much everyone! I love both floppy ears and ears that stand up so I will be happy either way. She will definitely stay adorable either way, we just love her so much! Thank you so much for all the comments about her :D We love her coloring too, the top of her head is already turning much lighter so I think she will have a pretty light colored face/head when it's all grown out. Her dad is a full parti yorkie and her mom was a parti gene carrier. Pixie has a little white tip on her back foot that I just LOVE but I can already tell that it will grow out and be gone soon! |
4 Attachment(s) Charlie's ears started off both floppy as a puppy. A few months ago one began to stand. He is now 6mnths old and one is entirely up and the other entirely floppy...even when he is sleeping the left stays up. So cute and everyone loves it. The first pic is when he was barely 8 weeks old in December. The last one was December too. The middle two were taken just March 15th when he was 5 1/2 mnths old (he was tired and stretchin' in one!). You can really see how fast colors change too. He has so much silver on his head. Underneath the black on his back it looks like the roots have silver too. I hope these worked. First time I've resized pics for here. |
1 Attachment(s) oscar is almost 7 months old , his ears are 1/2 way up. He is teething right now so i am hoping his ears will go up the rest of the way later. If not that's ok too, i love that face...... |

Get a small trimmer and trim the top half of her ears....that usually works. That pup of yours is dang cute! |
He is so cute!! Adorable little ears:) |
Yeah!! Did you end up taping them? |
