| Reputable Breeders in Southeast Tx/La ? I'm looking for a list of reputable breeders in southeast Tx or La. I've read some good reviews on Southeasttexasyorkies.com. Any others? |

| Welcome to YT!! You can go to ytca.org and view the breeder contact for your area. PM Mary (member Mardelin)- she knows the land of TX and can give you excellent references. |

| There are some great breeders in the Texas area, some I know on a personal level. As already stated, check out the YTCA.org breeder referral list......Please don't hesitate to contact me if you have further questions or require input.

| To be a member of YTCA, you must be ative in showing your dogs. There ARE actually reputable breeders out there that are not members of YTCA simply because they do not choose to show. You can also contact breed clubs in your area and get references....vets and groomers can also give references, as vets know if the dogs are being well cared for and groomers also know about care of the breeders dogs. You can start there with referrals, and then follow up with the breeders and get to know the breeders and how they operate their business, etc. Juswt because a breeder does not choose to show, does not mean they are not a good, reliable, caring breeder. | I would not buy from a breeder that doesn't show. I did previously but you live and learn.

| [QUOTE=107barney;3867133]I would not buy from a breeder that doesn't show. I did previously but you live and learn.[/QU Just wondering what kind of "horrific experience" you had to endure with a puppy you bought from someone that does not show their dogs? Was this a good breeder you bought from? Was this a breeder you evaluated thoroughly before yopu bought your puppy? Was this a breeder that stood by her sale, her health guarantee, her contract? I bought MY first Yorkie from a breeder/showr, and it died within 3 weeks from a mesentaric artery that was malformed, due to a congenital defect(per vet school post that was performed.) I was never offered a refund. I was never offered a replacement puppy....I was never offered a second puppy discounted price. I was not able to get that "oh so busy breeder/showr" to even return my calls....) I agree everyone is entitled to their preferences....Unfortunately, when the idea that if one were to buy a dog from anyone that does not show their dogs, they will ALWAYS be assured some a horrific experience, that will teach them a lesson they will regret the rest of their lives. I certainly would NEVER tell anyone that was new to Yorkies, that all show people are bad because I got a dog from one that died 3 weeks later and I never was able to get any satisfaction from her. Obviously, it was ME that screwed up and went to a show/breeder that was unreputable and unresponsible. That experience also taught me a very valuable lesson....you CAN NOT assume that just because you are dealing with someone that "SHOWS", they MUST walk on water and offer the VERY best puppies a person could POSSIBLY find, this side of heaven. Go into it with THAT STUPID, UNREALISTIC EXPECTATION, and you will learn a lesson you will regret.....I did, but you live and learn. (PS That person was BIG on this VERY site!!!) LOL turns out that my dog from a show breeder was very healthy..BUT i had a long wait afterwards to find out who her sire was for sure. I was very shocked when i received a letter from AKC telling me that my dogs registration was suspended until they could dna other of show/breeder dogs..it all got worked out in time..so i guess ANYONE can make a mistake..

I think if I bought from a show breeder who is actively having their breeding stock dogs judged against the competition, then they most likely are certifying the health of their dogs through other objective things as well like OFA and CERF. If they are doing OFA and CERF, then they are liver shunt testing too. I will be looking for a very special type of breeder in the future if I decide to ever purchase another puppy. I may never find that person.

| To each his own. I realize that rescue is not for everyone; but I won't buy from any breeder. All of my pups are rescues and perfectly wonderful ... not to mention just as "pretty" as any other yorkie pet. I don't tell anyone not to buy, but I love to share my pups because they are wonderful and so many people don't realize what gems you can find in shelters and through rescue. So many people still think that rescues are less than and it is just not the truth. Every one of my yorkies came from a breeder...some show breeders, some not, some probably millers or byb'ers. Bottom line, all from breeders of some type. They are basically healthy pups...I knew what I was getting with most because they came to me as adults. One that came to me as a puppy does have some issues, but they cropped up recently. Here are a couple: And, here is a link that many of you have seen of one of my previous pups who has since gone to Rainbow Bridge. I got Cody from a shelter and I always love sharing these before and after pics to show what gems are lurking in those places! Index of /cody

Here in TX we are being inundated with owner surrenders and also pups being dumped in shelters. I am talking about DAILY emails...... the market here is saturated and it is SO hard to find foster homes, never mind furever homes for these precious babies. I wish some of the breeders would slow it down a bit. No disrespect, but they really need to look at the current problem.
