What do you use in the car? I used to keep Bella in the purse that I carried her in and buckled that in the car but then she got too big for that. So I bought this little seat thing that I attacher her harness too, but she managed to jump out and was all tangled up..so that's out. So I need some suggestions as to what you guys use. Thanks! |
What kind of seat is it? The Pet Gear booster has tethers that are too long for little dogs, so I tied a knot in mine and that made it the perfect length. Snoozer might be a better option for keeping your pup in the seat. Sometimes they need to be trained to stay in the seat. Try practicing in an empty parking lot and/or having someone ride along with you. One person can drive while the other trains your pup. |
It's this ( I don't know how to show a picture here) Pet Gear Signature Pet Car Seat Carrier - Car Seats - Summer Essentials - PetSmart |
I use the Easy Rider harness as well as a seat belt attachment, both from Petsmart. So far so good. It also allows her to look out the window if she wants. |

1 Attachment(s) I use a laundry basket. My husband helped me make it. He has it so it buckles around the back of the seat to keep it secure and then we have part of the leash (I use two because I take two Yorkies at a time with me) to buckle into their harness. And, a pillow on the bottom of the basket for comfort. Cheap and works better then any car seat you can buy. Beans and Lilly in it. |
I put Tibbe in his airline type carrier that the seat belt passes through to keep it secure and put soft toys in the carrier together with the rug to soften the blows should we take a hard hit or turn over. His head, eyes and body are protected in there from flying projectiles such as cell phone, sunglasses, objects from my purse, from shopping bags and flying glass, etc. |

1 Attachment(s) Couver and Khloe ride in a PetGear booster seat. It has two straps so they are each strapped in by their harness. It also boosts them up so they can see out the window. They love riding in the car. |
1 Attachment(s) Mrs. Beasley in her car seat. It straps behind the seat and over the headrest. It attaches to her harness. She loves it and would rather sit in it instead of my lap. :p |
3 Attachment(s) I love the snoozer car seats and so does Callie as well as my moms yorkie Sammy. We have a big one for when we take them places and then each has there own. The first two pictures are Callie in hers and the last picture is both of them in the big one. |
Mine are in their PetsFly carrier with the seat belt around the carrier. Pixie and Roxie prefer to be enclosed in it. Cali not so much. |
In my car I use a small Snoozer carseat (backseat) and a nochoke car harness. In the truck we either move her carseat or she is wears her harness and is tethered to the seatbelt with a strap that has a Karabeaner on each end. |
We have the snoozer carseat and love it. |

My husband has taken canvas closet baskets and used bungee cords to secure them in our cars. We've lined them with small blankets. He does not fall out. He can jump in and out of them. |

I love the Snoozer pet car seat. It sounds like you need to shorten the tether line in your seat so that your pet can only sit or lay down. If nothing else you can always use a regular hard pet carrier to keep your baby safe while in the car. |

I have a hatchback, so my back seats are always down and I use a wire crate, with bed and blankets for both my girls. My schnauzer is more comfortable in that then in anything/or with anything else in the car...and it stops Charlee from jumping out, falling off the car seat I had for her (2X it happened)...once she was hanging outside the car seat by her harness  I feel so much better with them in a crate! And yet, they can get lots of air, and see out! |
If you must transport your furchild in the front seat, make sure you DISABLE the passenger side airbag. Dori rides secure in the back harnessed to her seat which is secured with a seat belt. I think it is Snoozer-like as she can see out the window. |

:thumbup: Mine have always ridden in their buckled in hard carrier. They have no interest in looking out. We travel with them a good bit and they just curl up happily in their crate. |

I also saw a beautifully built aluminum carrier, but they didn't have a small enough size for Razzle, or a big enough size for my big boy.:( We too were rear ended once, luckily with no dogs in the van, but there were groceries on the back two seats that ended up on the floor, and our big crates crashed into the back seats as well. Now the big crates are affixed in the very rear of the va , and so far no sliding of the crates forward. |
I agree that a hard carrier is the safest way to travel with a pet. The snoozer is great for riding around town but for on the highway or any sort of a long trip Gracie is in her hard carrier that is seat belted in. A pet could sustain some serious injuries in a car seat if an accident were to occur at a high rate of speed. |
2 Attachment(s) Attachment 366400 This is the car seat I have for my 2. This was before it was installed and Jack was checking it out. Attachment 366401 Not a good view but this is installed. It is huge, takes up 1/2 the back seat. I have no other back seat riders so it is perfect for them. It is like the large snoozer one, but I dont think it is a snoozer brand. |

I use one of those "hammock" type seat covers that attach to the headrests on the front and back seats. I have a crew cab pick-up truck and this works really best for us. I can't put Connor in the back seat with his harness on because he literally destroys it before I even turn the corner from my house, and would do the same if he were put in a car seat! Needless to say, we don't go many places with the boys, unless DH is driving and I can sit in the back seat with them to keep them company. The hammock is used only when I'm solo with the boys. |
