I have a lot of warped opinions about breeding dogs in general. I think that no one should breed any bully breed. I think that no one should purposely breed mixes -- making money off of those two practices makes me sick. I am fairly OK with most other dogs been bred if they are standard and all precautions are taken. I don't mind reimbursing my breeder for his or her time - what I think is a fair price is my judgment call - rest assured that I will never pay $3,000 for a dog. I don't want anyone feeding me info about how much is a fair price or what the minimum hourly wage is for someone who raises dogs after all time is considered because frankly, I don't care; if you love what you're doing, you should be happy with a couple hundred bucks per puppy and not base your entire income off of it. I don't think that Yorkies are different than any other breed. They shouldn't be a ridiculous amount of money because they're "cuter". We shouldn't think that the risk of hypoglycemia in small puppies should allow breeders to charge $7,000 for a dog. That's absurd and everyone knows it. I'm sure that most breeders who say that they make absolutely no money from the sale of their puppies are lying. I respect most show breeders of any breeds, but I find them very difficult to speak with and sometimes even arrogant (Maltese show breeders especially). On a related note: why would anyone close a thread when someone presents a question? We get the same topics over and over and over and this board and it makes me sick sometimes (i.e. Greenie threads or threads about how great Chris Christensen products are, which stores you can sneak your dog into, etc.). and finally, I really love a lot of the info that we get on YT - especially when it's from breeders. I am fascinated by baby Yorkies and all the stuff that goes on to ensure that the world will have future happy Yorkie owners. I think the breeders here like Rini, Pat, Kathy, Stacy, Kimberley & Kimberly give us a lot to think about. and while I'm at it, I guess I'll throw in a line about the people who come here just to sell their Yorkies - I wish they'd go away. If you can't sell your puppies, you shouldn't be breeding! |

I don't think they come here because they cannot sell their puppies...I think they come here because they know how important it is to know a lot about the breed and they want their babies to go to the best homes which some pf themembers here can provide. What is a "bully breed"? |

Great post - I too am somewhat provoked by the idea of the perfect something. We are what we are, dogs and humand alike :) Look at Golden Retrievers, attempts to breed the dog to perfection has caused the race to be untrustworthy and tormented by different diseases - at least in Denmark - it is so terrible. We are not God. God makes every living creature perfect from the beginning, so that's it. But apart from that - why breed anything at all? Why do we have kids? My idea on this is that we have a need to create something. And breeding dogs, painting pictures, having kids og saving the world like Mother Teresa, is creating something. Creating art, more humans, hope or puppies, it is all the same to me. And it's ok. And man has always wanted to test the limits of everything, maybe that's why some breed tiny dogs, to see if it can be done. And yes, some breed for money, nothing wrong with that as long as the dogs are loved and cared for at the same time. I mean I want to make money from being a therapist - a lot of money. But at the same time I want to help people get a better life :) If I do my job well, there's nothing wrong with that - in my opinion :) |

wow! is all i can say. i'm not in a good emotional state of mind at this time but i have to say this: some of the breeders you mentioned here that give us alot to think about are asking in excess of 2-3 grand for their puppies and i for one believe they are worth every penny from any breeder who puts heart and sole into producing a healthy beautiful dog for anyone, you included to have the pleasure of owning and loving. you stated you would never pay 3000 for a puppy yet you promote and stand behind the people who offer their babies at these well deserved prices. as far as those who come on just to sale their pups, i have to agree with that part. i've never offered a pup for sale on yt and probably never will, i dont have to. i just like to have all of you to lean on and get advice when i am in need. i just like talking to yorkie lovers in general. and i must add that i'd love to see the exceptional, healthy pups that could be offered to the general public by a devoted breeder for "a couple hundred bucks" honey that dont even cover the first vet visit. my 2 cents. thank you. |
Kewtee, I thought the same thing. Why have children? Anyone who loves a female has some fear for them when they think about all that can go wrong. You still want nieces, nephews and grandchildren. I would not have the courage to breed my pet but someone has to, right? As for kids, no one was willing to sell me one. |
