Help me choose my puppy part 2!

My other thread was getting so big that I thought I would start a new one and tell you about my visit with the puppies yesterday. They are almost 10 weeks old (on Tuesday) and it was so good to see them again.
In case you didn't see my last thread we were having a hard time choosing which puppy to get out of one boy and one girl. The first time we went to visit them these 2 followed us all around and just loved us while the other 3 puppies were scared of us and wanted nothing to do with us.
Yesterday when we went to see them I was almost hoping that one of them wouldn't like us as much this time but they LOVED us even more I think. The other 3 puppies weren't as afraid as they were before, but only came up to see us right when we got there. The rest of the time they stayed together in the corner while the 2 we like would follow us back and forth from one end of the play yard to the other and kiss our hands and try to crawl up into them. Here is a little video clip of what I mean!
puppies!.MOV - YouTube

I wasn't able to get as many pictures this time because it was just me and my daughter so I don't really have many to compare but they are just too cute. The girl is definitely the better looking yorkie BUT the boy is just the sweetest thing ever and is as adorable as can be. This is where I'm stuck. My daughter for sure wants the girl but I can't even imagine carrying her out the day we take her home and leaving the little boy behind
I know we should only get one puppy but I feel like I will regret leaving him behind forever!
Here are a few more videos (poor quality and really all over the place) but you can get a good look at them every once in awhile.....SOOOO cute!)
This one shows the girl the most.

This one shows the boy right at the beginning and the girl in the last half.

This one is the girl :) Still has watery eyes but I think all 5 of them had them this time, so I'm thinking it's just teething or their hair growing into them.

Anyways just thought I would come here and vent! It is nice to have our minds made up about getting the girl BUT like I said, I just don't know how I will leave the boy behind. I just wonder if we will be so happy with the girl that we won't regret it or if we will always wish we brought him home too! Aaaah!

Lovetodream88 03-17-2012 06:13 PM

Awwww they both seemed to have picked you. Is there any way you could get them both?

lillymae 03-17-2012 06:14 PM

Our last yorkie Sassy was our only yorkie & small dog & our Eskie would not play with her ever & poor Sassy wanted so badly to have a play buddy. When Sassy passed away & we got another yorkie, again we only had one & remembering how Sassy wanted a play mate so badly, we brought Ben Bean home for our Jazz a month after Miss Jazz came & they Love eachother so much. I will NEVER just have only 1 yorkie again.

KazzyK810 03-17-2012 07:18 PM

OMGOSH....they are all sooo CUTE!!! What nice looking pups!

Get both :)

rainbowmkr1979 03-17-2012 07:59 PM

Yea... If money weren't an issue I'd have gotten 2 for sure!! Although Terra is doing great I'd like her to have a buddy to run with while I'm at work.

Jesslmetz 03-17-2012 08:02 PM

Oh my! I don't think I'd be able to leave either one behind.... They both seem to be made for y'all!

xxmxaxrxyxx 03-18-2012 03:26 AM

imo what i comes down to is if you are able to bring 2 home at the same time and train and care for them. For your above statement you stated that you know you should only bring home one so i guess its a matter of which one for you then. since your little girl really wants the girl and in the other thread you stated that you are for sure getting the girl then that should be your final decision. if the time is not right at the moment for you to bring both of them home I am sure he or she will find another loving family to enjoy. don't beat yourself up on it. do what is comfortable for you and your family. the rest will take care of itself. hope that helps.

chachi 03-18-2012 04:47 AM

If there is any way you can see if you can get both. If money is an issue see if the breeder will let you make payments on him

RileyDC 03-18-2012 04:53 AM

Ohhhhh My Goodness! That would be such a hard decision.
I still say, Both!! :) :)

Stacey, the reason why you keep thinking about getting the boy is because you..already LOVE him. He stole your heart. I am a big believer if something makes me looks twice, its meant to be and its for me. If I were you, I would get the boy also.

Just my two cents. I have 3 yorkies. Trust me, they are lovable and addicting..lol
=)

I agree - though we don't have three yorkies - I have been talking to breeder about getting Jack a sister... so I am with the others who say, you should get the little boy too. He is so stinkin' cute and really seems to love you and he and his sister both picked you... I would do what the OP said and see if the breeder would be willing to take payments on the boy if you outright pay for the girl and put a down payment on the boy... see if that is an option.

See, this is what I keep thinking about! I know the little girl would be much happier and not go through such a shock when we bring her home if her little brother was with her!!

Thank you! I know that he will have a good home either way, I just wish he didn't love us so much lol!

I definitely do already love him , that's why I'm having such a hard time thinking about leaving him behind.

I really do think I should get the little boy and money IS a big part of my decision BUT I think my biggest worries are more about taking care of two at the same time. I would just hate for the stress of it to ruin the experience of having a puppy, but then again, I've never had 2 at the same time so I don't know that it would be a TON more stressful then having one. I don't think that I will ever make my decision!

You won't regret getting them both. They'll keep each other company when you're gone and you won't worry as much when you have to leave them home alone. They are both adorable!:)

jadabug 03-18-2012 03:48 PM

I think you should go with what your heart is telling you...and from what I saw in the videos and what you are saying here....they both have stolen your heart. It also seems that they have both chosen you:)
If it is at all feasible and you can afford to care for both......I would go home with both:)

Stacey8221 03-18-2012 09:52 PM

Thank you so much for all the feedback! We should be able to bring the girl home next weekend so I will let you all know what happens.
I have gone over it a million times in my head and unfortunately I think we will end up with just the girl. I can tell my husband is not 100% on board with getting both and one of my biggest concerns is we will be moving in the next few months and since we will be renting, I worry about 2 puppies being too much of a problem for some landlords. I am not sure if pet deposits are per pet or just one set fee? Anyone know how that usually goes?

The fee really depends on where you go as some charge per pet & some charge a flat fee & a certain number and/or size of pet limit. I rented for many years & always had 2 or more cats & 2 or more dogs & was Always able to find a very nice home to rent & Always got my full pet deposit refunded when we moved out.

Check into the deposit. If you are going to be renting and only have one puppy, realize that one can be a lot more destructive than two. Two will keep each other company with a playmate so neither will be bored and chew walls and dig floors like one really bored or anxious puppy looking for activity has been known to do. Personally, if it was at all a possibility, I'd go with getting both...and I do understand how money can be an issue. You can maybe later offset some costs by looking for more inexpensive shot clinics, spay/neuter at the Humane Society, etc., and I seriously do not think you will regret having them both as much as you might regret leaving one you already love behind. There was a reason the boy was not selected by that other family...maybe this is it...?:p

I live in DC. My building charges a $500.00 Nonrefundable pet fee, per pet. And then $20 a month per pet.

The places I have looked at in Virginia charged $400.00 Nonrefundable pet fee per pet and then $45 - $50 per month, per pet.

I truly feel the need to have this thread be my first post. The best decision I could have ever made was to have a yorkie to accompany my maltese.

I truly believe you should do whatever is possible to have both yorkies in your life. You were chosen by them... watching the video seems like they are two peas in a pod, little buddies :)

They will keep each other company, leaving them home to run errands, work etc will be so much less tormenting knowing they are together and not just one alone.

About the renting...

When I was renting I was always charged one fee for both when I explained both their weights equal less than 10 pounds. This goes for when we are on vacation, I have always been charged one fee, since they are so small.

I just couldn't imagine leaving him or her behind

AF pups 03-19-2012 11:16 AM

I have two and with the military we move A LOT. It really depends on where you move as to how the fees are done. The house we are in now doesn't have a pet deposit but our deposit on our last place was a set fee regardless of number of pets. Some of the other places we looked at it was per pet. It just really depends on the landlord / rental company. At the 3 bases we have been at in the last 4 years I never ran into an issue of not finding a place because of 2 pets. Sure you have to search a bit harder but it is do-able .

Like others have mentioned two tend to be less destructive than one. Teddy my male was a bit more destructive before we got Chloe our girl because of his separation anxiety. He was 8 months when we got her. Having to go through the puppy stage twice back to back was not fun. Had I of had my choice I would have rather of them both go through the puppy stage at the same time just so I could be done with all the training.

No matter what you pick I'm sure you will make the right decision for your family. Don't let us crazy yorkie lovers pressure you into getting two if you are not ready. I firmly believe everything happens for a reason and if you don't get a second now then later on I'm sure you will find another if that is what you choose.

BlueBelle 03-19-2012 11:36 AM

His ears really are more erect than hers. Both, however, total heart breakers!!

Stacey8221 03-19-2012 06:35 PM

Thank you all so much for all the advice/replies! You have definitely shared some good points! I'm glad to see that some landlords charge one set fee instead of per pet, but I guess I won't know what our situation will be until we find the house in a few months.
I definitely think the little girl would be happier if we got the boy as well (and so would I lol!) but you all seem to be the only people that think 2 puppies is better than one. Almost every single person we've told about the puppy has had something negative to say and it's driving me crazy!! Like "ooooh you are in for it" or "oh they are way too much work, you'll regret it" or "ewww dogs will ruin your house" so I haven't even brought up possibly getting two to ANYONE but my husband and mom!

SoSoNYC1 03-19-2012 06:41 PM

Stacey, who cares what others say. Your main concern to worry is your husband, if any. No offense. =)

I agree with this post! I still think you should get both of them. It really won't be much harder to train two as opposed to one... just be consistent in your training with both of them. And like the others have said, they will keep each other company when you are away - they already look like best friends now.

As far as the naysayers - don't worry about them. I'd be curious to know if they even have dogs or if they are just miserable without the little bundles of joy. Again, you could ask the breeder if she would take a deposit on the boy and make payment arrangements. I just can't imagine you leaving that darling little boy behind. Not to mention his sister will be missing him too. Jack had a sister with him when I bought him and often times I wish I would have bought her also. I don't think it would have been much harder to raise two and actually may have been easier than raising one. Good luck again!

navillusc 03-19-2012 07:06 PM

I agree: "who cares what others say"...

Besides, being "in for it" means you get twice the love, twice the fun, twice the enjoyment, twice the pleasure of seeing them grow up. If everyone only had ONE of a 'thing' there would be no 2 or 3-child families, no 2-car families, no 2-TV families...:p

The decision is yours...whatever you think is what is important...and it is a decision you're wrestling with because it is an important one and you want to make the right choices this time...same as every time. Good girl! :D
