I had heard the term puppy mill before I got Charlie but was uneducated on what it meant. I was one of those people that went into the mall's pet store just to hold the cute yorkie pups. The reason I never bought one was because of the insane price tags they put on these little guys. There was a few years I almost bought from a local breeder and bragged that she sold to pet shops. Boy, was I dumb. I'm happy that I ended up with a puppy from a local family whose female had one litter then would be spayed and was knowledgable and had a history of yorkies. The family is very nice and clean and kept the puppies indoors. They were socialized well and received tons of love including from kids. Charlie is pure bred with papers. I loved that they asked many questions and even wanted to visit my home to see what everything was like. They hated having to list him for sale and not know the person he went to. The rest went to fam and friends. I will never look at pet shop animals the same again. So sad. |
I can't even look at a pet store window anymore, so I hear you. It's so sad :(. |
im probably going to be judged by what im about to say, im just a soft hearted person. I hate puppy mills, byb people say don't buy from petstores, to me thats like telling someone don't touch that person because they have a disease and that person can't help it... those puppies can't help how they were brought into this world its very sad indeed its like punishing the puppy because they were born in puppymills, byb and you know they will have something wrong with them, all and all those puppies deserve love to, a good home.. im just saying |

I am kind of with you. I got my baby from a local breeder, but I do think that there is no need to punish the puppies because of where they came from. It is the puppy mills that need to be targeted and I understand that puppy mills will go out of business if people stop buying from pet stores. However, how do you better educate people on this issue so they will stop buying from pet stores? I have heard of puppy mills before but I am only recently inspired to advocate on this issue. Anyone know how can help? |

I used to hate walking by the pet store at my favorite mall. Thankfully, the last time I was there I noticed that they closed it! Thank goodness. I wish they would all go out of business! But since that isn't realistic, all you can do is try to educate people on puppy mills and steer them towards adoption or a reputable breeder. |
