I take mine pretty much everywhere. And most of the time I either have 2 or 3 with me. I use my stroller and when I think I might be pushing the line, I put a big baby blanket on top and everyone thinks I have kids sleeping. I know that CA law says that animals cannot be within 20 ft. of areas where food is stored or served. So grocery stores and stores like Target & Walmart that also serve/sell food I don't even bother. I have been to many other stores though.. It's basically a call on the stores part not the law. And though I haven't had to use the arguement, I am ready to say that I have dog hair on my clothes, what's the difference? I also like to keep up with dog friendly places and often look up areas I am visiting on www.dogfriendly.com. My motto is "It's easier to ask forgiveness than permission". But most of the time eveyone thinks the dogs are so cute, they just don't care about rules. Here is a pic of my stroller for 3 dogs: http://www.petgearinc.com/AT3.htm and my other for 2 dogs: http://www.petgearinc.com/Happy%20Trails.htm HIGHLY recommend!!! |
My sister took her pup, in her bag, with us shopping at Michael's. Everything went okay until we were in the check out line and all of a sudden Maggie let out a bark and the cashier yelled out...."What the hell???" It was so funny, ...but I didn't try to look like I was with my sister! |
I never really tried to take Lacey anywhere that I knew would not allow her. Only Petsmart and Petco. When Hurricane Andrew hit, they made an exception at Sears. We were without power for over a week and did not want to let Lacey suffer in a hot house. We went to Sears waiting for generator and since the truck got lost from Houston, we spent the night in the store. All the clerks were really nice to Lacey and thought she was adorable. She was only 7 months old. She was housebroken already, so we did not have to worry about her having an accident. The one time I tried to bring her somewhere I was told no. Lacey had kidney failure and I had to bring her to the vet 3 times a week for her IV fluids. I had to get gas first and did want to make two trips. It was very hot that day and I did not want to make Lacey wait in the car in her condition. And the lady told me rudely no pets. Even though I was holding her in my arms and there was not any customers in the store at the time. I did not think it was that big of a deal because it was only going to take 5 seconds to pay for my gas. So, I had to bring her home and go back and pick her back up for the vets. Luckily, the gas station is right up the highway from my house. |
I don't take Trixie everywhere with me mainly because she doesn't really seem to like riding in cars all that much. Actually, she pukes if it's for more than 15 minutes or so. She is OK if she is in my lap, but IMO, it is dangerous to drive with a wiggly doggy in your lap. At least for me, not speaking for everyone I guess. Secondly, when I leave my house, I try to get everything done in one trip...most of the time, there is at least one place (Wal-Mart usually) that has a 'no pets' policy. I have no desire to try to sneak her in, rules are rules, even if I don't agree with them. There are alot of people that are deathly afraid of dogs (I can't imagine why, but my grandmother is afraid of cats, so...) I can't imagine what it would be like to not be able to go to Wal-Mart becuase there were people in there with dogs...if I was afraid of them, that is. |
