I remember one YT member was going out with her yorkie early one morning and there was a coyote out there and grabbed her yorkie just as they were got outside. If I remember correctly, she said her yorkie ran at it and it grabbed her yorkie and was gone.:( A few summers ago one of my neighbors, who works odd hours for the post office, said he counted 23 coyotes coming through. |

Yes, it was the wee hours of the morning. It was around 3 a.m. when he saw all of them coming. They were following one another. He said they went through a huge culvert that goes under the road. |

Quite a few 'exotic' pets are being turned loose in Florida...pythons, large lizards, etc. As 'legalities' make exotic ownership more difficult, people let them go...sometimes to avoid detection and/or punishment whether or not the 'exotics' arrived here 'legally'...also, when the exotic pets become less manageable by getting older and larger...ditto. These are not native to Florida and makes it somewhat challenging for the critters as well as dangerous for people and pets. I do not know what the answer is...responsibility doesn't seem to be working all that well. |
Wow. These are horror stories. But...I do know it is true. I live in a neighborhood with a very small park across from my house, houses all around. My very small cat was in the park one night and a coyote grabbed her. My son heard the noise and bolted out of the house....yelling and chasing the coyote...the cat was dropped. He and I made a midnight run to the vet that night. The cat escaped with puncture marks on her neck but otherwise ok. Miracles do happen. |
I hear a lot saying that a responsible pet owner is always on top of their animals. What some don't realize is that animals are being ripped off their leash by a predator, hawks come down right next to you when you're in your yard and grab your pet (and even if they can't fly away far with them the claws or drop will kill 'em) There is absolutely no guarentee that hovering over your animal is going to protect it from anything. Even a spider bite or scorpion bite could kill your animal. You're not going to be checking the ground your pet walks on. To basically say someone is irresponsible for a wild creature killing your pet is not really fair. If some creature killed my animal I would be DEVASTATED and even more so if I was told that I wasn't a good mom because a scorpion killed my dog. We have to remember we live in a world where there is a predator in every nook and cranny. I'm sure the YT member that got her yorkie taken right off the leash wasn't being irresponsible. All that being said....should we be super paranoid with life in general? Worried about evey thing out there? Naw, just safeguard yourself, your property and your pets as best as you can and have faith that nothing bad will happen. Life is too short to be worried about every bug, animal and bird. Not trying to attack anyone that said whatever or this and that....so don't take it that way. |
A girl was killed by coyotes where i live, she was 19 years old, sad story: Cape Breton coyote attack kills touring folk singer | CTV News so i'd be careful if you ever go hiking with your yorkie by yorself, i use to go hiking with my last dog alot by myself on the trails around my area, but not anymore, this scared me. Coyotes are alot more dangerous than people think they are. So not only watch out for your yorkie, but for yourself too.I know if a coyote ever approached, we'd be screwed if it was hungy enough.its scary. |
It's just the oddest thing. Here is this thread on YT, and we've been talking about this stuff...and before Valentine's Day I had made Valentinre's Day digital portraits for everyone I know who'd sent me photos of their kids. So, yesterday, I heard that one lady was missing a kitty that I'd put in a 5-portrait grouping, then today the lady tells me she has coyotes where she lives and she is worried one got her kitty baby that is missing. |

I agree...:thumbup: Also, when I referred to 'responsibility' not seeming to work, I was referring to exotic pet ownership specifically, as they are the ones who jeopardize everyone else's safety by releasing exotics instead of finding proper locations when they can no longer care for them...and that ("owners") includes 'importers' who cannot sell them after bringing them here as well. |
