I also have made my own with pretty, clear compotes, candy dishes, drinking glasses, fish bowls, etc., turned upside down on clear candle holders. Flea markets are great for variety. You can seal with hot glue or make a gasket and/or inner, non-slip base out of latex rubber which is clearish-white if you want to remove the contents. The hot glue mats, which are now inexpensive compared to years ago, :p do work.
I have some plastic display cases for little collectible stuffies, and I like them too, but sizes were the problem...and reliable sources.
