Worried About Jazzie For those of you who don't know, Jazzie was spayed yesterday, her weight pre surgery yesterday was 4 pounds 14 ounces, shes' going on 1 year and 8 months old. The last time she ate was Thursday at 6:00 in the evening, then has surgery the next morning. She still hasn't eatin anything ad I'm getting so worried about her. I have a call into the doc to see if he thinks I should try boneless skinless chicken breast and white rice, or some canned food. She's not drinking on her own yet either. I mixed kayro syrup and water yesterday and gave her 2 ml of that about every hour and a half yesterday, but not through the night. At 8:30 this morning I gave her 2 mls of the liquid as well, but she still won't eat or drink. Waiting for the doc to call back, any suggestions in the meantime? I'm just so worried about her, I wish she'd eat and drink. Doc sent me home rimadyl for her for pain, but she has to eat something with it to have it. I'm not crazy about the rimadyl, had a horrible experience with it with boxer boy Isaiah who's now in heaven. Has anyone ever given rimadyl to their yorkies? If so, what has been your expeirience with it, good or bad? |
Oh Tracy, I hope someone checks in soon. I can understand being worried when she won't eat or drink..Keeping you both in my prayers. |

Sending my son out now to get some boneless skinless chicken breast for me. Hope doc says she can have it. |
She should be able to have it, it is easy on the tummy...I know when Yoshi had his neuter he did well and back to himself the next day but it takes longer for the spaying. I really dread having Prissy's done. |
I'm sorry Jazzie isn't eating. Maybe the anesthesia took away her appetite? Is there anything special that she really likes that you could entice her with? I'll be praying for her. |
Try hamburger and pasta, just make sure to rinse off the hamburger with water to remove most of the grease. Worked for Keno, |
I heard back from the doc, he said it was fine for her to have the skinless boneless chicken breast and what I was doing with the water and kayro was good as well. I made up a batch of the chicken and rice and started off with a heaping teaspoon full of it, Jazzie ATE!!! :-) I also put some of the kayro water over it before I gave it to her and she lapped the plate clean. I feel lots better knowing she has something in her lil tummy now. Now lets just hope she keeps it down. Thank you all for the replies and prayers, I appreciate it. |
Yay! So glad to hear Jazzie ate and is drinking! I hope she continues to get better! We are thinking of you guys! |
Glad to hear that she ate the Chickie and Rice. As for the Rimadyl I don't give mine that as it caused runny poops. I do how ever use Metacam or Deramaxx. Those are my choices for my kid's. |
I am sorry Jazzie reacted badly but I am so relieved to hear she did eat something. Sometimes it just takes a real yummy meal to jump start the appetite. I hope the whole thing is behind you now and that Jazzie is her old self again really soon. :hands: |
Yay, sounds like she is on the mend... |
Note to Jazzie Don't scare your mama like that anymore. So glad she finally ate something & you did good with the nutrical. I hope she feels better soon. |
So happy Jazzie ate. Hopefully she is on the road to recovery now. |
Thank you everyone. I gave Jazzie another heaping teaspoon full of the chicken and rice about a half hour ago. I'm hoping this jump starts her appetite and she'll start back on her kibble soon. I'm gong to hold off on giving her anymore chicken and rice until this evening, I'd really like her to get back to her kibble. She was so picky when we got her and it took weeks to get her to eat right, I don't wanna mess that up by giving her chicken and rice so much that/that's the only thing she'll eat. I so didn't wanna give her the rimadyl, (I had a bad experience with it with our beloved boxer boy Isaiah some years ago so I'm not crazy about that med. The med from yesterday had worn off though and I knew she was hurtin by the sounds she was making, so, I went ahead and split the pill in half like I was supposed to and gave it to her with some kayro water, she seems to be feelin better. I've got her back in her kennel on her bed resting, hopefully this will all be behind us very soon. Has anyone heard from the other gals who's babies were spayed and neutered yesterday? I wonder how their doing? |
Have not heard but am gonna go search. Maybe if you put some karo water over her kibble she might eat it. |

Maybe mix a little of the chicken and rice in the kibble will work for her? |
SHE ATE!! She ATE SOME OF HER KIBBLE!! I'm SOOOO RELIEVED!! I think my babies gonna be "A OK." Thank you God, and thank you everyone here. |
YAYYY!!! I'm am super happy that she ate some of her kibble and is doing well:thumbup: |
Eating Ella was like that the first two days after her spay. It took several days for her to start eating again, she would eat a little out of my hands but that was it! She is all better a week later:) stitches are almost healed!!! :) |
Wonderful! Go, Jazzie...Go Jazzie...! :happyboun |
Yippie Jazzie. We were all concerned for you little gal. |

Thank you eveyrone. Jazzies curled up in my bed sleeping again. She's peed since the surgery, but no poo yet, I know that'll take a few since she hasn't had much food in her system the last two days. Poor mags isn't liking not being able to be with her sister, she really loves Jazzie and not being able to be with her is torture for her. |
I'm so glad she's eating. She couldn't resist the chicken!:D |
The chicken and rice is key... However, getting them back to kibble can be difficult -- probably not so much for the dog as for us. Marley got sick nearly a year ago... scared the stuffin' out of me... he had the yellow poo's and the goose honk cough. He was on boiled and rinsed ground beef and boiled chicken and rice for two weeks. To this day, he tries to hold out for hot meals... but I know kibble is much healthier and balanced for him. |

So glad that little one is doing better. It scary when they won't eat or drink. It won't be long she will be her ole' self and running and playing. Glad she's on the mend. |
Rimadyl is a anti-inflammatory. I guess you could compare it with Advil. Your right about not giving it on an empty stomach. If she is not acting like she is in a lot of pain you probably could just not give it to her. Some vets give it and some don't. It's most important to get her drinking. Try some bottled water. I pour bottled water out of a drinking spout on a water bottle into a clean bowl and Gracie loves it. She likes to drink right out of the bottle. Maybe mix her kibble with the chicken to get her back on her regular diet. She should be back to normal real soon. Hope she is feeling better today. |
