Ok guys I was not asking who was better , Just what the diffrence was and if a dog could be dual registered , seems like this is a more heated subject then I knew! |
Heated LOL LOL..heated..not really..informative, enlightening, yes....I respect feminvstr views, infact I agree, except for teh statement that AKC means healthy and good quality...unfortunately, that knows no bounderies. |
YorkieRose you say "I would not even ask for papers myself..they mean nothing unless you breed/show to me" then you say "I own and breed from AKC only" You have my head spinning first you say papers don't matter, yet you're a breeder and would only buy and reg AKC. I am very confused  If they are not reputable: Puppy mills believe in quality not quantity, their bitches are over bred and not socialized, have no breeding program, push em out, wean at 3 weeks, selling them as soon as they are walking, papering with full breeding rights on their registration, mostly producing inferior quality, unheathy, oversized dogs ...then you have the buyers that think its ok to breed completing an ongoing vicious circle. If they are reputable: commercial breeders (ones that have more than 3 litters a year) take pride in their breed, have convictions on their breeding programs and attempt to achieve the best of the best. They wean at 6-8 weeks old, sold at 10-12 weeks on limited registration unless they feel they are appropriate standard then you may pay a premium for that right. Their bitches are treated and feed like queens, retired at 3-4 litters and either sell them as adult pets or keep them as part as their family. Unreputable breeders come in all colors and in all registries but most would avoid AKC because of requirements and standards that MUST BE Followed! Finally for those who falsify a reqistration because of money should be turned in to the AKC. |
confusion So sorry I confused you. I am speaking about a pet. If I saw a darling Yorkie I wanted as my pet only..I would not care if it had papers or not. I have kept a couple tinies over the years and never bothered to submit their regisrations..why give AKC money for nothing? They were spayed or neutered and remained my pet for their life. Do you see any reason to register them, I do not? Of course it is a matter of opinion...and I respect yours. As to commerical breeders..for the most part they sell to brokers, who in turn sell to pet shops. Go to USBreeders.net and ask how many commerical breeders on that forum sell "out the door" only..very few..their pups go to pet shops, Huntt Corporation brokers...they are very upfront and honest about it.. it is a matter of public record so why lie? AS to reporting dishonest honest breeders..I have done it a number of times..I no longer bother because AKC did nothing.. In fact the breeder was an AKC inspector..need I say more. There are alot of things going on in the dog world I wish I had no knowledge about, but it is a fact of life...no different then politics.. dirty little secrets. |
I have only bred AKC registered dogs in[COLOR=Blue] my breeding program. I feel that there are no doggie police in any of the registries so the best I can hope for is a paper trail. When something, namely ancestry of puppy, is seen in writing, official and on paper there is slightly less chance to bilk the unsuspecting buyer. The fact that DNA testing on appropriate studs is required by AKC is a start in the right direction. Unfortunately, the buyer beware and the buyer is responsible for making good choices when it comes to selecting the breeder from whom they will buy a 15 year commitment. Not all AKC registerers are honest, not all APR, APRI, ConKC, ACA are dishonest, but for my money I will stay with the breeder who registers with the longer, more reputable registry whch is AKC. There are so many informative sites on the animals themselves, the way to interview a breeder, the things the breeder should ask you, the terminology the breeder should know, the guarantee, the written agreement, the number of breeds a breeder has and/or sells. There are many answers that should raise red flags. If a breeder does not know what PSS is, inguinal hernia, heart murmur, roach back, collapsing trachea, megasophagy and several more terms,,,think twice about buying from that person. There is NO excuse for either the breeder or buyer to be ignorant about the problems, health and genetics of any animal---the internet is a window on the info world--use it. |

If I am spending $1000-2000 on a pet I would demand papers from a reputable registry. Excuse me I must disagree "a commercial breeder" is classified as a breeder that births (3) or more litters per year. I believe that would include me and many breeders/show people I know. I DON'T think so! |
Kimberly HI Kimberly...as the line in the old movie, Cool Hand Luke" goes..."What we have here is a failure to communicate".. I was referring to an actual commerical breeder..one who pocesses a USDA commerical license to breed. The AKC does not classify any breeder with 3 or more litters as a commerical breeder, because they know many clubs will not allow as members anyone who is a commerical breeder. IF I am not mistaken that was in our by- laws..no brokers, dealers, commerical breeders..but again that could have changed on the commerical part. Many counties in the USA do insist on licensing to breed..any amount of litters..but I do know the Yorkie clubs will NOT allow any of our members to broker or sell to brokers, pet shops. etc. I have obviously ruffled your feathers in something I have posted on this subject or others...these are purely my opinions and knowledge based on many years in the dog world. If you would like to take this to Private Message, please feel free to contact me. I do not want to subject other members to our misunderstanding and will not post on this thread again...best wishes to you. |
